This book is dedicated to my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, for them to know they can overcome anything and live a righteous life, to always put God first in every decision, every situation, and every move they make. This is also for each reader, to encourage them to move in the Spirit and not in the flesh… Wait to hear God’s voice.
The Chosen One By Carolena Williams
I’ve been chosen by God to share my testimony with the world. My journey in life has been challenging and difficult, but God has protected me and kept me alive so that I can tell others that they, too, can overcome any obstacle with God’s help. Yes, God can deliver you and give you victory over any problem you face, no matter how impossible it seems. Go to God like I did. He loves you more than you realize. He created you to know Him and have a relationship with Him. Talk to Him, surrender your life to Him. Be patient, life is a process, and there are levels of faith. Begin by turning from your old ways of sin and selfishness and trust God to change you. Read your Bible. It is God’s Word and has great power. The Bible says,
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
I, Carolena Williams, share this with you because I love you and want you to know the freedom and joy I have found in life through faith in Jesus Christ. As my journey began, all I can is that I had two sisters and three brothers. I was born in San Francisco on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1963. We lived with my birth parents, who both struggled with drug addiction, in the Tenderloin area of San Francisco until I was three years old. When I was three, my siblings and I were taken away from our parents, and all of us went to live with a foster family. Our foster parents had two adult children of their own, Mary and Robert. They were the only family we knew. My brothers and sisters and I called them Mom and Daddy. Every once in a blue moon, our birth parents would come around to see us. As a child, I every night we would have dinner as a family and sit around the table together. We were taught to always
pray before each meal. We said, “Father, thank you for our food. Thank you for my mother, father, sister, brother, and everything. Amen.” We never missed saying a prayer before each meal. After dinner, the children would take turns clearing the table and washing the dishes. I loved being part of a close-knit family and cherish those memories. I learned how a family was designed by God to be united and to one another. Family is the foundation of society, and I will never forget the things I was taught as a child. We didn’t have a washer and dryer, so we were taught how to wash our clothes on a washboard with a bucket of soapy water. We would rinse out the wet clothes and then hang them outside on the clothesline to dry. We were taught how to take care of ourselves, and today, I appreciate everything my foster parents taught me. I am still using the skills I learned growing up. I used the things I learned growing up when I became a mother and had children of my own. I am still using those skills now with my grandchildren and with my greatgrandchildren. Although I loved my foster parents and have wonderful memories of my childhood with them, I always had a cry inside my heart and wondered why I was not raised by my own parents. As I got older, I gradually came to understand that the reason was because of their drug addiction. How could they take care of their children if they couldn’t even take care of themselves? I enjoyed the chance to bond with my birth father and mother on the rare occasions when they would come by just to say hello. My birth father was allowed to take us to his apartment in the Tenderloin sometimes, but my mother couldn’t take us out because of her living arrangement. I will never forget my mother’s face though! In our childhood backyard, we had lots of fun playing. It was a great place to raise kids. Growing up in the ’60s and ’70s was a much simpler lifestyle, before technology took up so much of our time. We had no computers, no internet, or smart phones. We used our imaginations and played outdoors as often as we could. The girls would play “house” with our toy dishes and our dollies, and the boys would in. We would take the dirt and pretend to make cakes, and we would take the grass and cook vegetables. I would always watch my foster mother cooking in the kitchen, so what I saw her do, I would imitate. We also liked to play kickball and volleyball in the backyard. There was a nearby park where we could roller skate or play tennis on the tennis courts. We would also go to the gym occasionally to play basketball. My sister and I each had our own favorite dolls that we spent hours playing with. They were huge dolls that we would dress up in different outfits. When we finished playing with them, we
would cover them up with plastic and put them back on the shelf. My brothers used to play with small plastic cowboys and Indians. It was popular to play army in those days, and my brothers had their own G. I. Joe dolls and small plastic army men with tanks and trucks. I can honestly say I loved my childhood. We went to church every day except Saturday. We had our church in the basement of our house. It was a Holiness Church. I was literally raised in church! At one point, when my birth father came around, he took me and my sister to the Catholic Church where we finished a six-week class before our first communion and catechism. We learned about the Catholic religion, but I preferred the church that was in our basement, the Holiness Church. We were each taught how to pray the Lord’s Prayer,
Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed by Thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our treses as we forgive those who tres against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
We also learned to pray Psalm 23,
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me on the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me. Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Whenever we went outside the house, before we were allowed to come back in, we had to “Cut Ourselves Loose.” The way we did this was by turning around in
a circle three times and saying the Lord’s Prayer and Psalm 23. This was done to make sure we would not bring any bad spirits into the house. Whenever we went to school or anywhere outside, we might be among people who carry evil spirits, and we didn’t want to bring any of them into our house. The environment of our house was holy and pure. Now I understand why my foster mother made us pray and repeat the same prayer every day, morning, noon, and night. I understand why she made us go to church so much and read the Bible. Spirits are real! Everyone in the world is not saved and have not been taught the truth about Jesus and the spiritual realm. Today, I am thankful that I was taught how to pray, and now I can pray for other people!
Saved and Healed
I was seven years old when I got saved by believing in my heart that Jesus Christ is Lord. The Bible says in Romans 10:9–11,
If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes and is justified, and with the mouth he confesses and is saved.
For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” As a young child, I suffered with asthma, and it was difficult for me to breathe. At one point, I had asthma attacks or seizures every weekend and, sometimes, as much as three times a week. I was in and out of the hospital where they would give me shots to open up my airways. One early morning, when I was seven, I not feeling well. My lungs would tighten up, and I had to go outside to the backyard to get some fresh air. I sat down on the porch steps, breathing heavily in and out. Suddenly, a bright light appeared in front of me. It was a pure light, and in that light was a man who reached out to me, making me feel better. The light got stronger and stronger and was the most beautiful light I’ve ever seen. It was pure love. It was Jesus! Jesus came to me and healed me! I jumped up and down with joy and ran inside the house calling, “Mom, Mom! I just saw Jesus!” My foster mother believed me. She embraced me and told me that I was chosen by God. She told me again that I was God’s child, and He was my Lord and Savior. I’ve never let go of that truth and never doubted God. I knew He was real because I felt the pure light and peace of the Holy Spirit when Jesus came to me and healed me from asthma! As a child, I made a choice that I have held on to with all my heart. That choice was to always pray to Jesus and never forget how He appeared to me with a pure and holy light. It was like Jesus wrapped His arms around me, holding me safe within His embrace. It was the most amazing spiritual experience of my life, and I will never forget it.

Dark Secret
I had a deep, dark secret that I didn’t tell anyone. I was afraid to say anything, but it began to affect me. My behavior changed, and I became bitter, depressed, angry, and afraid. I stopped listening to my parents and talked back. I was mean and disrespectful. I wanted to leave my foster home. The secret was that my older brother had molested me when I was thirteen years old. I found an excuse to leave, and at the age of fifteen, I ran away from home. I began to meet some of my birth relatives and moved from place to place. The first place I lived after running away was with Auntie Becky. My mother had taken me to her house once, and I ed where she lived, so I ran away to her house on Fillmore Street in San Francisco. She took me in, but it didn’t last long because she had to work. Then I moved in with my aunt Gussie in the Bayview district of San Francisco. She helped me to continue going to school. It was at Woodrow Wilson High School that I met the love of my life, Frederick Gaines Jr. We began to date, and soon, we fell in love. Shortly after that, I went to live with his family, and his parents treated me as one of their own children. They took good care of me while I lived with them, and I bonded with his family and even began to call his parents Mom and Dad. I went back and forth between my aunt Gussie’s house and my boyfriend’s house as I continued going to school. I was so proud to graduate from high school in June of 1981. No one knew it, but I was pregnant as I walked across the stage to receive my diploma. Those were some of the greatest days of my life. I enjoyed school and all my friends. My baby boy was born in 1982 and was named Frederick. We bonded immediately. I knew that God had sent him to love me and to be loved by me. One year later, I became pregnant again and gave birth to my daughter, Niesha. I was the happiest person on earth because I had a little boy and girl to love, who needed me and loved me in return. I knew that I had to take care of my children, so I began working at Jack in the Box. I was able to save enough money so that we could move to our own place in the Geneva Tower. We lived there for a year. I worked hard to make sure that my children were taken care of. Life was full and looked hopeful. Everything was fine until the day I was introduced to drugs.
When I first started using drugs, I could have said no, but I chose to say yes, and it put me on a long dark, desperate path. It started with one drug, which led to another drug, and then another. It was when I started using crack cocaine that my life began to spiral out of control. I was addicted. I began to lose everything. The only hope I had in life was holding on to Gods light, but it was hard. When my kids were taken away from me, I lost all hope. I no longer cared about anything because my children, my loves, were stripped away. I couldn’t take care of them anymore because I was too far gone. I ended up homeless and, eventually, went to prison.
Coming Out of Prison
Coming out of prison, I made a conscious decision and a promise to God not to look back. I would only look forward to my future and toward my children. I needed to make a change for the better. Prison was a learning process. You have to make up your mind that you don’t want to go back. You have to step up and push yourself to make that change. Everyone needs a push. God is my push. What I mean by God is my push is that God is my strength. He is the only One you can depend on when there is no one else in the world to love you or care for you. As you call on God, your strength will rise, your hope will rise, and your belief will take over. When you’re in prison, there’s a lonely and empty place that takes over in your life. God deals with you right where you are. God doesn’t judge you. He doesn’t leave you. He will hold you and help you. God said, “I am with you always and will never leave you or forsake you.” God wants you to trust Him. We may have made a mess of our life, but with Gods help, we can start over, and it begins by trusting Him. We have to read God’s Word daily and lean on His Word because that’s how you stay on the right path. “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened to you.” God will continue to knock on the door of your heart until you surrender to His voice. You can’t make it in this life without answering God’s call. I knew I needed God to keep me strong while I was serving time in jail. When I was doing wrong on the street by selling drugs, I knew it wasn’t right, but I wasn’t listening to what God was telling me at that time. I wanted to do my own thing. I didn’t want the Word of God and the truth then.
Chosen One
I named this book The Chosen One because I have a glory light on my life. As a child, my mother told me I was chosen by God. God has chosen me to be the light and to walk in the light to tell people about this light that God marked me with. It’s His glory light. God knew the trials that I would go through on this earth. The Bible says that we did not choose God but that God has chosen us to go and bear good fruit that would remain. God has chosen me. He has chosen you. He is our heavenly Father. God knows you because He made you. There is only one God, existing in three persons—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God will place you in Himself, and He will be glorified in your life. God chooses the foolish things to confound the wise and the weak things to confound the mighty. God says He will do what others thought was impossible. He will make a way where there seems to be no way. His plans are to prosper us and give us a bright future and a hope. He will free you and me by His power and use it to set others free. God says He will awaken your spiritual senses. I knew what it was like to be empty; now I know what it is like to be filled. I knew what it was like to be naked and afraid because I experienced it. Now I know what it is like to be clothed and unafraid. I knew what it was like to live in fear; now I know what it is like to live by faith. I have been chosen to live and move in the Spirit. Gods ways are perfect. God has chosen me for a time like this to show His love to a world that is hungry for Him. When you align yourself with God and choose His will and trust in Him, He will cause you to increase more and more in all your ways. He will cause great grace to abound toward you. God will direct your path. God will meet your every need. God will help you. I thank God for choosing me. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him. As you trust in Him, you will overflow with love by the power of the Holy Spirit. If God is for us, who can be against us? There were times in my life when I was using drugs that people would find me and lead me to a church. I can when I was high on drugs and woke up and found myself laid out in a church, and I had no idea how I got there. This happened more than once. One time, I was on a mission (meaning I was chasing drugs), and I was hanging out
with the wrong people. I was with a certain guy, and we were walking around getting high and trying to find more drugs. Someone shot at us, but the bullet missed us, and we ran. I had no idea who the man was that I was with or what he was involved in. I went to jail because the man who shot at us told the police that I had robbed his house. I had never seen him before in my life, but he pointed me out to the police and said it was me and the guy I was getting high with who had robbed him. That’s why I say, you better know the people you hang out with and know their history. God saved my life so many times. He saved me from getting AIDS because I was out there looking for love in all the wrong places. I was getting high and looking for a father figure, thinking I would find someone to love me for me. But I would always find someone who took advantage of me, someone who would get me high and make me steal for them, or someone who would beat me. Most of my relationships were abusive; I was getting beat up or hit. That’s why I didn’t stay in a relationship for very long. They would cheat on me with other women, and then I would go on to the next man and so on. But I knew God was keeping me through all of my messes. God will chase you down and cause things to happen to you just to bring you back in alignment with His will. You will find yourself counting on God’s help over and over until you get it right and surrender your life to Him. I knew better because I knew God. I knew I had a calling on my life, but I wasn’t ready. I was still going in and out of jail because I was on drugs. I had two beautiful children that I let go of because of drugs. I knew they needed me, but I chose the drugs. I was strung out with no help and didn’t know which way to turn. I can’t blame anyone but myself. I had my own mind, but I was weak. I was the one who chose to put the drugs in my mouth. I could have said no, but I didn’t. The first hit of the drug will take over your life and make you want more and more. You will do anything to find a high. I encourage you to teach your kids about drugs. Tell them they should never let anyone make them use drugs. Please, listen to me! Teach your kids, sit them down, and let them know that drugs will destroy them in every area of their life. I know from experience because drugs destroyed my life. I had my first two children taken away from me. I didn’t get a chance to raise them or see them after Freddie was three, and Niesha was two. I missed their teenage years, taking them to school, hearing them call me Momma. But I never stopped loving them!
Generational Curse
Now that I am older, I realize that addiction ran in my family and was a generational curse. It had been ed down from my parents, and they had inherited it from their parents. But I have put an end to that family curse through my repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. I made the decision to turn away from all my sin, including drugs, to follow Jesus and live a righteous life. Now I am standing in the gap for my children and grandchildren, praying and fasting to keep them from following the pattern of addiction in our family. When I used drugs, I was hurting, using the drugs to cover up the hurt. Drugs will keep you in darkness if you don’t surrender your life over to God. God is the only One that can help you to overcome addiction. I knew that I had to let go of drugs. It took me going to jail, being locked up and doing time, to find Jesus Christ again. Jesus had not left me; I had left Jesus. The Lord will let you fall flat on your face, make you tired of getting high and tired of doing the same old bad stuff, until you don’t have any choice but to want to get right with Jesus. I didn’t like the dark life, but I had to go through it to find the glory light again. Now I refuse to go back to the dark life ever again, in Jesus’s name!
Psalm 91
Psalm 91 in the Bible helps me stay out of the darkness. It says,
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.” Surely, He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look and see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him, I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.”
If you fall, Jesus will make sure you get back up. Things in this life are not perfect. Only Jesus is perfect, and He will always be perfect. We all have bumps and turns in life, but I encourage you to stay with God, keep the faith, never let go of God’s hand. God will keep you on the right road in life. Keep the love of God in your heart and seek His face in prayer every day, all day!
How Do You Stay Clean and Free?
It starts in your thought life. Your thought life is your identity. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. In the mind is the anointing of the mind of Christ. The mind of Christ is like a brain transplant, keeping your thought life clean. You must renew your mind daily by reading the Word of God, thinking about it, meditating on it, pondering it over and over. You must replace all your old wrong thoughts with the truth. Ephesians, chapter 4, 5, and 6, will help your life to line up with God. There’s a Tree of Life and a Tree of Good and Evil. God gives us a choice to obey or not. Choose this day whom you will serve. I choose God! You have to want to change your life, and it starts with a decision you make. You can’t do it by yourself. I was actually glad that God had to set me up to let me fall. It took time in prison to finally wake me up. I returned to my first love, Jesus Christ! My life has changed for the better, and I will never be the same. I will never return to drugs again because Jesus has released me from that prison of addiction, and it is buried forever.
To Overcome Addiction
I had to tell myself, “I am better than this! I will overcome this! I will walk away from this because I am a child of God.” I knew I was chosen and that my soul had to escape. I knew God would send me an escape route and that was when I was sent an angel from God, my husband, Anthony Earl Patterson Sr. We started as friends, and we ended as friends, but I knew God had sent him. I stopped using drugs because Anthony would not go on with our relationship until I quit. So I decided that I wanted to let them go! God made a way, and the last time I used drugs was in 1992. God will make a way for you to escape if you want to. I have never looked back. God took the taste out of my mouth, and He took the addiction away from me. He completely healed and delivered me from drugs and alcohol. Thank You, Jesus!
Baptism
While I was in prison, I received baptism because I knew that I had to change for the better. Baptism is an act of obedience as a follower of Christ. It is a beautiful picture of dying to your old way of life by going under the water and then rising to new life in Christ as you come up out of the water. Shortly after that, I decided to the prison church choir. I made other changes too for the good. I went to school and got my driver’s license, which made my life a little easier. My dear friend, Anthony never left me while I was in prison. He was providing for me and took care of my needs. I became a new person in Christ, I was saved… again! I trusted God and held on to Him this time. It doesn’t matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done, when you are a child of Almighty God, the only thing that matters is His love. The man who helped me and waited for me to get out of prison was Anthony Earl Patterson. We got married after I was released. God knew that I needed to get married. I had found someone to love and care for, someone who loved and cared for me in return. Anthony had a beautiful heart, which is why we connected. God knew our hearts would connect. We had our ups and downs, but we loved each other and always came to an agreement. We were married for thirteen years and had four beautiful children together. God pushed me to want to stay clean, so I signed up for college and went to cosmetology school. I graduated in 1994. I became pregnant with Anthony Patterson Jr. Two years later, I had Gloria Patterson. Then we had two more children, Keys and Jeremiah. Life was not always easy, and I had my trials, but I would not go back. I was on a journey to live righteously. I had become a mother again, and I had a family. I knew my kids needed me, and I had from Anthony’s mother. She had the light of God on her too! We became close friends, and she helped me grow in Christ. So my husband and I moved to Long Beach, California, and got baptized together. We wanted to better our walk with Christ. We had to empty out and let go of our sin and surrender to God for our own good and for the good of our family. It was at that time, 2000, that I went back to school at Long Beach College and graduated with a degree in child development.

Encouraging Words
The only thing that really matters in life are God’s promises. God declared that He would always be with us and never forsake us. The one thing that the devil can’t take from us is God. Everyone wants to be loved for who they are. Begin a relationship with God. He created you in His image, and He loves you for who you are. He sent His Son, Jesus, to show who He is and teach us how to live. We have all gone our own way and need to come back to our heavenly Father. Jesus came to die on the cross to save us and restore us to who God created us to be, His beloved sons and daughters. His resurrection from the dead destroyed the power of sin and death and now we can come back into a loving relationship with our heavenly Father. Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Call on Him. He is right there waiting for you. He loves you so much. To purify ourselves, we need to get into the Word of God and obey it. That means no sex before marriage, and if you’ve had sex, repent, stop. Ask God to forgive you and purify you. God created sex for marriage because it is the highest expression of love and intimacy between a man and a woman. When we give our body to someone, we are giving them our heart and soul also. God wants to protect our hearts by keeping sex where it belongs—in the covenant of marriage. God’s presence in your life will keep you in faith. Things will not always be perfect. There will be some ups and downs, but you must get up and move forward. Have some quiet devotional time by yourself. Go before the Lord. Go inside your “spirit man,” which means to go inside yourself. Wherever you may be, God is with you. you don’t have to be in church. Just get into God’s presence. Make time for Him daily. “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” Let God use you. God has a purpose for your life. God will protect you wherever you go. God will be with you. Just trust Him. The safest place to be is in the purpose of God. It’s not about you; it’s about God and His good plan. You have to be self-controlled, having self-restraint. Get into God’s plan, which is to bless you, to give you a future and a hope.
The Reason I Wrote This
The reason I’m writing this book is to share what God has done for me and how He has been with me throughout my life. I want to encourage you to trust in God. God has always been my provider. Jesus is the Living Bread of Life. God can choose you also. Get into God’s presence by being still before Him. Seek Him with all your heart. He will be with you. Glory to God! Glory to God! Glory to God! God is doing a new thing in you. Life is a journey, not a destination. Stay on your journey with God, He will be with you wherever you go by staying in His presence. God will take you to your destiny. You have the victory, but only in His presence. Say yes to God; say yes to His will. Say yes to His way. The wind is blowing… You have been set apart, chosen for His purpose. We always work for a better tomorrow, but when tomorrow comes, instead of enjoying it, we continue to think of the next tomorrow. Choose to be joyful now. Let’s have a better today by loving one another. Let’s consider how we may love with good deeds. Do not give up meeting together and encouraging one another. Rejoice in hope; be patient. Joy is strength. Jesus said, “My peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Study His Word daily, asking for God’s will for your life. There are levels of growth and maturity that are reached by developing your prayer life, choosing your friends wisely, and discerning your surroundings. Share the gospel message of Jesus Christ. Spend time with God daily in prayer. You will grow daily if you practice these things. Love and encourage others. Always humble yourself and don’t think of yourself more highly than you should. Always say thank you. As you do all these things, Gods light will grow inside you. You will find yourself worshipping and kneeling toward His presence. You will also find yourself singing and lifting your hands, dancing and crying. I share this with you because I have experienced Gods light for myself. God has used my worship for His glory. My worship is pure before God’s kingdom. My love for God is real. My heart cries out for God. I ask God for more of His presence. I ask God to change me and to take over my life, take everything out of me that is not like Him. Through surrender, meaning leaving the worldly life behind and moving toward Gods kingdom, I find there are more levels that God has for us to reach. I
am asking God for more of His will, not my will. God has shown me some of His kingdom, just bits and pieces. God has taken me up into the heavenly realms. God has shielded and covered me all through my life. I am so grateful and thankful that Jesus died on the cross for my sin. Jesus has healed me and delivered me from all of my sin.
Heavenly Experience
I want to share with you when God came to me and showed me the open heavens. God took my spirit man into the heavens. There were angels welcoming me as I was circling around and ascending up into the second heaven. I could see saints rejoicing and praising. As I was ri, I saw gold all around me, and the anointing got stronger and stronger. Jesus took me up higher and higher into the third heaven. I looked back and could see the Earth, which looked like a globe, and began seeing the sky filled with white doves. When I descended back to Earth, my heart was full of God’s powerful love and peace. God will let you experience heaven on earth when you surrender your life to Him. That was one of my happiest days and one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had with Christ Jesus. After all the suffering in life, there is good in store. You just need to press through.
Sowing and Reaping
Sowing is giving money to God’s work. It’s one of God’s principles, the law of sowing and reaping. Rain is coming. There will be a harvest, but you must sow a seed to get a harvest. Reaping a harvest is getting more in return for the seed you sowed. One seed always produces many heads of grain. The seed principle works. God takes everything you sow and multiplies it into a large overflow. When you give, you have to give cheerfully and from your heart. Don’t be afraid to give. It is an act of worship. Sowing will open up the window of heaven and pour out a supernatural blessing for you. God will make you the head and not the tail, above and not beneath in every area of your life. Sowing seed will make your life better. You will be able to walk and talk better. God will lift you up.
Give and it shall be given to you, pressed down, shaken together and running over it will be poured into your lap. For with the same measure you use, it will be measured to you. (Luke 6:38)
God will send you help from the north, south, east, and west. Your life will improve, but you have to be ready for it. You must have faith and trust God to multiply your seed. Once you have sown it, don’t worry about it. don’t fear. You just have to plant the seed; God causes it to grow and multiply. When you plant a flower seed, you don’t worry and wonder if it will sprout up and grow into a beautiful flower. You just water it and patiently wait for God to cause it to grow. God’s rain is coming in His timing. Sow that seed even when you don’t feel like it and when you don’t see anything happening. Stand still, wait, and watch God move for you. Trust God; the seed will grow and bear fruit. You will live in safety, and God will cover you in every area of your life. Continually praise God in the rain, running to Him like never before. Sow, sow, sow your seed into the kingdom of God and thank Him for your blessings. God will do exceedingly and abundantly above all that you can ask or imagine. Your anointing will get stronger, and you will see angels. Your cup will overflow. He will let you breakthrough and go higher in due season. Glory to God in the highest!
The secret of your life is the seed. Putting seed in the ground is a sacrifice, but it will bring a great harvest. God will rearrange your life for you. No one else can do it for you; you have to sow it for yourself. There will be a crown in heaven for you, and your light will shine through your seed. It’s not just about going to church; it’s about the seed, your faith, and trusting God. New doors will open. Ask God what to do. Talk to Him. Believe and see your seed begin to produce in your finances, your children, your marriage, your job, or business. Speak to your children about Jesus and tell them about sowing. Sow a seed into your chidren or grandchidren for their future. You will never regret sowing. What’s most important in my life is knowing Jesus, making it to heaven, and keeping my crown clean. Through all the pain and suffering I’ve gone through, God has never let me down. I know God will give you the strength, mercy, and grace to get through all your pain too. God will never leave you or forsake you. I stand today to tell you! Your good days will overshadow your bad days. You have to believe in the impossible because with God, all things are possible. Having a vision of the better life you want will make your life a little easier. Have humility and diligence and be consistent to pursue whatever you want in this life. Most of all, have love. Love never fails. As much as possible, be at peace with others. Don’t let the sun go down without asking God for forgiveness.
Forgiveness
We always need to be sure we are in right standing with God. The way we do that is through repentance and forgiveness. To repent means to change your direction, to turn from being selfish or sinful, and turn to go God’s way of love and doing what’s right and good. Forgiveness is asking God to forgive you for your sin that you have done against God, other people, or yourself. We are born into sin, and all of us need to repent and ask God to forgive us. Confess out loud with your mouth and believe in your heart that you’ve done wrong and ask for forgiveness. When you do that, God will forgive you, and you will become a better person because you have humbled yourself. Love will conquer all, and you will become more loveable. My kids always mocked me because I would tell them they had to empty out what was inside their heart, meaning to ask God each day to forgive them of their sins. After you ask God to forgive you, then you need to stop doing the same thing over and over again. That is repentance to God leading to obedience. Die to the world and the fleshly lusts that wage war against your spirit. It’s a battle to do what is right, but with the Holy Spirit, you can do it. Never seek revenge. If someone does you wrong, forgive them and let it go. Otherwise, if you take revenge, it will come back to you in some way. We are called to forgive and bless our enemies, just like Jesus did. Forgiving others doesn’t mean that what the person did to you was okay; it just means that you no longer hold a grudge against them. You choose to let it go and trust God to take care of it. It’s like tearing up the IOU from the person that hurt you. It’s a decision you choose to make. God says that we are to forgive others because He has forgiven us. The Bible says in Matthew 6:14–15,
If you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Forgiveness and repentance will enlighten you and give you a great feeling in your spirit. There will be freedom by overcoming falsehood with the truth and overcoming evil with good, overcoming weakness with strength, overcoming anxiety with peace, overcoming fear with faith, overcoming confusion with wisdom because death in the spirit is life. Be dead to your sins. Go from death to life, overcoming everything with prayer. Daily repentance and forgiveness are healing for your heart, but you have to confess your sins to Jesus. Recognize the sin that you have done. Ask God to show you any sin you may not be aware of and ask for forgiveness. Confession is believing with your heart and speaking it with your lips. God will forgive you. Jesus went to the cross and died for your sin so that you could be forgiven. Then three days later, He rose from the dead, defeating sin and death. Now anyone who turns from their sin and calls on the name of the Lord will be forgiven and saved and receive eternal life. If you would like to be sure that you are forgiven and will receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, pray this prayer:
Lord Jesus, Forgive me for sinning against you. I repent from all my sins. I believe that you died on the cross for me and that on the third day, God the Father raised you from the dead. I receive you as my Lord and Savior. Lord Jesus save me. Write my name down in the Book of Life. Lord Jesus, I need your help and cannot live on my own. I need you in every area of my life. Please guide and direct my life. Renew my mind and heart. Clean my life. I want to be a new person. I want to be transformed into your likeness. Thank you, Lord, for saving me! Amen.
You can now have confidence that you are saved and never doubt your salvation. God always keeps His promises, and He said that if we repent, confess our sin, and turn to Jesus, we will be forgiven and saved. God’s deliverance is the only way to bring total healing and freedom from the evil spirits tied to addictions. There are many addictions that can become a snare in your life. Mine were drugs and alcohol. But there are many more that you don’t even think about as an addiction, such as food, television, shopping, pornography, smoking, sex, video games, work, gambling, and many more. God is the only one that can deliver you and heal you from your addiction. I don’t want anything that will take control of my body, soul, or spirit besides God.
To Receive the Holy Ghost
To receive the Holy Ghost, you have to ask God to forgive you and cleanse you. Ask Him to take out the hate and anger, and you will begin to see God replacing those things with His pure love. As you humble yourself, God will change you and give you a new love for yourself and for others. But it takes repentance and forgiveness to receive the Holy Ghost. I asked for the Holy Ghost and the angel answered! “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of God will take you through.” When I was baptized the second time with my husband, God released His Holy Spirit which came upon me, and I began to speak in God’s heavenly language. God took me to the next level. I will never forget that day. I was at Bishop Noel Jones’s church, and God would not let me up out of the water until I spoke in tongues. I was truly born again!
Purity
Purity comes from power and strength from above. Ask God to purify you. That means trusting God in all your decisions, making a choice in your life that you want to live the right way, to become a better person. It’s impossible to become perfect, but you can try. That’s the goal that we should reach for. To me, purity means turning away from sin and not doing your own thing, letting God control your whole being, including your mind and your thoughts, turning away from the things you did in the past, like having sex outside of marriage, lying, and stealing. When you are tempted, you need to remove yourself from the evil, dark places. In fact, you should stay away from things you know will be a temptation for you. You need to look to the Lord for guidance, asking God to strengthen you when you’re weak and give you grace to meet any weakness. One of the weaknesses in my life was looking for love in a relationship instead of letting God bring the right man to me. God knows your heart’s desire. Wait for the partner that God has for you. That’s where I’m at today. My husband, Anthony, died in 2015, and I am now waiting on the Lord, not looking for another husband but letting God bring the right man of God to me. God is giving me patience. He is giving me a chance to get my life in order, cleaning out my heart. He is giving me wisdom and knowledge as He directs my path in life. It has been years since I have been in a relationship with a man, and I am not in a hurry.
Love
God is a loving God. The Bible says that love is patient and kind. It does not envy or boast. It is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way. It is not irritable or resentful. It does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. When we do all things in love, it pleases God and makes the world a better place. The meaning of life is to know God and love Him and share His love with others. Ask God to help you see people the way He sees them and to love them. God gives us life and faithfulness and love, and He will never leave you. Love is not proud. It does not dishonor others, and it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs! There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out all fear. Above all things, keep loving one another earnestly because love covers a multitude of sins. We know that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. I learned how to love God because He first loved me. For God so loved the world that He sent Jesus to die on the cross before we even knew Him. God’s love is the greatest love you can ever experience. The love of God is constant; it never changes. You will never feel alone or rejected when you know God’s love. The love of God is different from the love of the world. It is a higher love, a purer love, a true love. We should love each other with genuine affection and take delight in honoring each other. The greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind, and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself. I thank God for loving me and for forgiving me of all my sin! Because God is love, He has made me a mother, and I love my children and know the joy and blessing that children bring to their parents. Being a parent myself has helped me understand how God loves His children. God has also blessed me with six grandchildren, and now I have also become a great-grandmother! God has sent so much love my way. When you share the love that God has given to you, it’s amazing how He will put more and more love in your heart. You find yourself doing more acts of kindness, humbling yourself and putting others first. It’s a daily process. The more love you pour out, the more love God pours in. Love
never gives up and never loses faith. Love is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance or situation. Love never fails.
Never Alone
With God in your life, you are never alone, abandoned or neglected. As one of God’s chosen ones, I accept change. What I feel in my life today is a new beginning, like I am being purified. Yes, I get lonely at times, but I know in my heart that God is with me, and God will make everything right in His time. God promised to always be near you and never leave you. In those lonely and quiet times, it’s a good time to draw closer to God and hear His voice. God will direct your path. When you listen closely, you will hear what God is saying and speaking to you. You have to seek God by reading His word daily. You can find a church that you like that teaches from the Bible, and God will speak to you through the man of God. God sent me a prophet. I have followed a prophet named Joshua Holmes since 2016. That was when I stopped having sex and looking for a relationship. I decided that I know God wants to help me. God will always help you and send someone to teach you His word. I found Prophet Joshua Holmes on Facebook and started listening to him. He can also be found on Periscope and Instagram. He was speaking about unlocking the gifts that God has placed inside of you. I always wondered what were the gifts that God had given me, so I began to listen to him daily. After listening for a few days, I decided he was speaking to me and that God had sent him to me. The man of God will open up the Bible and break it down so you can understand it better and learn about the mysteries of God. God is a supernatural God, and there is a supernatural realm that is just as real as the natural realm. The man of God unlocked my spirit. I always knew that I had a gift inside of me, but I didn’t know what it was. Listening to the prophet helped me learn who I was. I am God’s chosen one. My life is anointed. God gave me a strong visionary gift of being able to see heavenly angelic mysteries. I have visitations from God where He will show me things from the heavenly realm. I started seeing more visions from God by listening to the prophet. I didn’t know anything about angels, until I started listening to Prophet Joshua Holmes. The hidden mysteries of God are revealed as you surrender your life and begin to purify your heart and mind by reading and obeying the word of God. As you begin to humble yourself, the glory of God will manifest in your life, and God will enlighten your well-being. This purification will keep you
from sinning. Everyone has an angel. Angels will help you make right choices in your life and protect you.
For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways, on their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. (Psalm 91:11–12)
I thank God for sending Prophet Joshua Holmes to help me! He is a true man of God. He has helped me by teaching me the Word of God and covering me when my husband and daughter ed away. Everyone needs a covering. Everyone needs a man of God to teach them and guide them.
The love I have for God has grown stronger and stronger every day. I’ve gained wisdom and understanding from the Bible. I speak to you today and tell you that if you read the Bible and learn the Word of God, your life will change for the better. Pray with me. “Father, I thank You, God, for protecting me. You are my safe place. I find refuge under the shadow of Your wings. I will trust You in everything that I do. I am thankful for Your angels that guard me as long as I live. In Jesus’s name I pray, amen.” I ask God to let His will be done in my life. I ask God to possess me and fill me and take over my life and take me higher in heavenly places as long as I live!
My Daughter Gloria Stareka Patterson
On June 21, 2019, God gained another angel in heaven. God saw that His daughter Gloria needed to be in heaven for His glory. I saw Gloria early on Thursday, June 20, 2019. I noticed she was not sleeping in the room with me like usual, but she slept in Jeremiah’s room. She woke up like normal to go to work and was very quiet when she went out the door. She said goodbye in a small voice. That was the last time I saw her alive. Later that night at about 11:30 p.m., the Holy Spirit quickened my spirit to sow a seed of ten dollars to Paula White Ministries to sustain my children from harm. I was feeling something in my spirit was wrong. The next morning, about 9:00 a.m., I heard the boys talking about Gloria being in a car accident. Before they could tell me, I opened the door and saw a police car across the street and wondered why they were there. I saw the policeman look at my door and right then, I felt something in my spirit. The policeman walked over toward my house, and I began to cry. I knew she was gone and felt a huge sense of emptiness right away! Her death shocked me. I am still very heavy over all the pain that I felt. There are no words to describe how much pain my heart felt. All I could say over and over was, “My baby, my baby, no, no, no!” My heart was empty, and I felt my life was over. Unbelievable pain and despair. I had all my family around me for but that wasn’t enough. I had to see my daughter again. I asked the police if I could go and see her to identify her body, so the next day, I went with family, but they only showed me a picture of her. I couldn’t stop looking at her picture. All I could do was cry harder and harder. We began to search for a funeral home. After coming from viewing Gloria, I received a quieting in my spirit. As we drove past where my father and brother were buried, I said we should stop there at Lima Family Milpitas-Fremont Mortuary. We went inside and met a lady named Wendy. I talked to her about making arrangements for Gloria, and within two hours, everything was taken care of! It was amazing. When you are living for Christ Jesus, He will take care of all the details in your life. Everything was done so fast, and it gave me great peace. The contract was signed, and we set a date for her service. I could feel the prayers going up for me and my family.
I noticed that on the day Gloria ed away, June 21, I stopped eating for many days. God had taken away my appetite. I couldn’t eat because I wasn’t hungry. Something was happening to me, and I could feel my strength ri. I felt an open heaven over me everywhere I walked. Every word I spoke, every tear I shed, I knew Jesus was with me. My spirit was full of God’s glory. I could feel Jesus carrying me. I knew I needed to keep myself together, not only for my family but to arrange Gloria’s funeral. My son and I started a GoFundMe page on Facebook to raise money for the funeral expenses, and the money started coming in as people began to donate. On the morning of the third day after Gloria ed, I was taking a shower. I saw a pure light come toward me while I was in the shower. This pure light kept coming toward me, and I stopped and looked up. I saw my daughter Gloria with a white veil on her head, wearing a white wedding gown. Her face was glowing bright and shiny. She was coming closer and closer toward me. I began to bend over and cry, saying, “Oh my god, she had made it into heaven. She has risen!” I not only felt her presence, but I saw her with my own eyes. This visitation was so amazing that as I write this, I am trembling and crying. The pure light God showed me was from the throne of God. Then the light faded and went away, but I was filled with peace. It was a happy peace. I was relieved, knowing that my baby was with Jesus. I had to tell my family what God showed me. I saw angels all around me the rest of that day and through the night. That same night, I saw Gloria in a white gown, and she was smiling and happy. The next day, a golden angel appeared to me, and the next day, I saw an angel with a sword in his hand. Everywhere I went, I was seeing angels in the sky. Even my granddaughter and her friend saw angels in the sky when we were together. What an amazing transition for Gloria. I was so happy because God was showing me something from heaven that He wanted me to share with people so they will know that heaven is real. After fasting for eleven days with no food, I began to understand why God didn’t want me to eat. He was preparing me for greater things. I believe God was preparing me to stay strong for the family during Gloria’s service. On the eleventh day, I received a phone call from the funeral home saying they would give us all the services for Gloria without charge! I had no money to pay for her funeral, so this was an answer to prayer. All I could say was, “Thank You, Jesus!” God answered all my prayers. When you tithe and give 10 percent of your income to the Lord every month, God will show up when you need Him. He will do the impossible for you. The staff told me they had never given a funeral service without the money up front and that I
was the first one ever. That made me smile. Look at what God did! Thank You, Jesus! The service was exceptionally beautiful and peaceful. My daughter, Gloria Stareka Patterson was put to rest. Glory to God in the highest.
Vision
On February 24, 2020, I was coming home from taking care of a business matter. As I flew home from Las Vegas at about 9:30 a.m., I dozed off into a light sleep and had another visitation from the Lord. I saw angels walking down the stairs from heaven, and a few seconds later my daughter Gloria appeared in the middle of them. There was one angel on her right and one on her left. The angels were holding Gloria’s arms as they all walked down the stairs, smiling at each other. Then I woke up! I believe the angels were greeting Gloria for her birthday. That visitation was so beautiful and made me so happy.
Testimonies
I would like to share four testimonies with you of what God has done through my life. I saw many miracles when I was a child. The first miracle I saw as an adult concerned my brother Tony. Toward the end of his life, I found out that he had become sick from AIDS. His body had deteriorated, to the point where he went into a coma. I knew that he didn’t have long to live, so I immediately went on a three-day fast before God. When I say I went on a fast, I mean I went without food and only drank water. I spent more time reading the Bible and praying. I also sowed a one hundred dollar seed into the church. I got the family together, and we prayed for God’s will to be done in my brother’s life and that God would bring him out of the coma to see his family one more time. On the third day of my fast, Tony woke up from his coma, and we all got a chance to say goodbye. That night, God took him home. His last words to me were that he loved me. Fasting and seeing miracles manifest before your very own eyes are all God’s doing. The next testimony was my birth mother, Marie Williams. I heard a still, small voice calling and whispering in my ear saying, “Go, find your mother and take care of her.” So I found my mother at the age of seventy in San Francisco, still using drugs. She was not in the best of shape. I found her in the hospital, and the doctor gave her only six months to live. He wanted to give her a feeding tube because she wasn’t eating and was very weak, but I told him not to give her a feeding tube because I was believing God for her life. So I began another threeday fast and sowed a one hundred dollar seed into the church. I ended up bringing my mother to my house to take care of her for as long as I could. God sent me some help, and the person that ended up taking care of my mother was an old boyfriend of hers. She lived for eight more years, and she gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. She was saved by the grace of God before she ed away on February 24, 2019, at the age of seventy-eight. After the doctor gave her only six months to live, she lived for eight more years. Look at God! This is the third testimony. I heard that still, small voice of God again, telling me to go find my brother Jules, whom I hadn’t seen in twenty years since we were in the foster home together. We had each gone our separate ways. My sister Louise and I went to LA to look for him because she had kept in touch with him and
knew where he lived. When we got to LA, we found him downtown in the Sunset District. He was homeless and sleeping behind a U-Haul truck. I said hello, but he didn’t say anything back to me. I asked him to get up and come with me back to the bay area to go to the hospital, but he refused to come. I kept talking to him and trying to refresh his memory about the things we used to do as kids and how we always used to say our prayers, but there was no response. I called the hospital to tell them about my brother’s condition, but they couldn’t do anything against his will. I was just so happy to see my brother again and be in his presence because I hadn’t seen him for so many years. I left my phone number with him before I left to go back home. Two weeks later, the police called to tell me that my brother had ed away from tuberculosis. I was so glad that I had obeyed God’s voice and gone to find my brother. It’s always good to listen to God. Here is the fourth testimony. My sister Sheila was in a car accident in San Francisco and went through the windshield and was in a coma. As soon as I heard the news, I went on a three-day fast and sowed a hundred dollar seed to the church. The third day of my fast, she woke up out of the coma. I praise God for her awaking. Look at God; I give Him all the glory!
The Mysteries of Being Chosen
It’s important to know that you, too, have been chosen, and that God’s hand has been placed on you. He has a mission for each of us. We go through different seasons of life, and God has me in a new season. I’ve gone through tribulations that brought me to where I am today. Most of the tribulations were painful and crazy, but I am still alive to testify and tell you not to run away from what’s happening in your life. Rather, run to it and go through the trial, and you will overcome. I’m not trying to tell anyone how to live their life, but I am sharing my experience of going through the fire. God will be with you. Sometimes God will put things in front of you to make you stronger. Sometimes the situation will be painful, sad, and it will hurt, but God will bring you through. God’s grace will guide you, and He will order your steps. Don’t be afraid of all that God is doing in your life. He is breaking you from old bad habits and bringing you to the next level in your relationship with Him. The journal of your life is growing as you learn from your mistakes and repent, moving forward for a better tomorrow. I had to leave my youth behind. I had to leave all the pain and hurt behind and press on for a better life. God has placed people in my life to bring me favor, to enhance me, and to love me when I didn’t love myself. God will bless you through other people, but you have to become a blessing too. Just as God blessed me, I had to learn how to bless others. I learned to become a blessing by loving people. I have become a loving person, a mature woman of God. I have become beautiful inside and out because I am sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Now I like to help people. God gave me an ear to listen to His voice. Now I share God’s love with others to give them hope so they can better their life too. The mysteries that God gives us in life are through the Holy Spirit. Be still and listen to His voice. Humble yourself. Show love to your neighbors. Be kind, smile, give an encouraging word, share what you have with those in need, and help people in any way you can. I continually show love to my family and to the people that I meet. I let them see the light in me. That is living in righteousness. Have faith that God will put all the pieces of your life back together again as you learn from your mistakes. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. God is always with you and will reveal His mysteries to you. I know God will change your life
because He changed my life when I surrendered everything to Him. Ask God to process you and to give you wisdom and knowledge. Ask Him to take over your life. You’re going to need Jesus to help you. Read your Bible each day and listen to God’s Word being preached. It all starts with repentance and turning to God. God gave me a mission and destiny to win souls to Jesus Christ every chance I get. I was given several gifts from God—the gift of helping, the gift of seeing in the spiritual realm, the gift of love, the gift of giving (sowing), and also the gift of supernatural visions and prophetic insight. Today, I am thankful to see God’s supernatural miracle provision and manifestation in my life. I am very thankful for everything He has given me and done for me. God has restored my life to a new beginning. That is my story that I share with you. My prayer is that you will learn from my life to believe God and to trust Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it. (Matthew 7:13–14)
