A story about Love
It was Mateo’s first day of school, so he woke up very, very early. Mommy had made him his favorite breakfast: smiley pancakes! “What is going to happen today Mommy?” asked Mateo. “Well, I’m going to take you to school, you are going to meet lots of new kids and your new teacher, and you are going to stay with them for just a couple of hours” exclaimed Mateo’s Mom trying to cover everything. Then she continued. “You are going to learn new songs, games, make new friends and also eat a very special lunch. I made you your favorite sandwich and also packed your favorite fruit!” Mateo was at school and he was having the time of his life. There were lots of kids and a room full of colorful materials. The teacher was a very nice lady, pretty smart and cool. At lunchtime Mateo grabbed his superhero’s lunch box, but even though the food was good, something was not right. He felt a little sad. Maybe, Mateo missed not eating lunch with his Mom. But, before he knew, it was time to go home and the day had been a good one. Mateo ran to hug his Mommy as she picked him up from school. On the way home Mommy wanted to know everything about that special day. She asked Mateo a million questions about his first day of school. “You know Mom, there is something that you forgot to tell me this morning” said Mateo. “Oh, I’m sorry! What is it?” asked Mommy worried. “ You forgot to tell me that I was going to miss you and, I missed you!” Mateo said.
“Yes, you are so right” Mommy replied smiling. “I forgot to tell you the most important thing! You see, when people love each other they spend a lot of time together, but sometimes they have to spend some time apart. And it doesn’t matter because in their hearts they can feel the love for each other.” Mateo thought for a minute and then he replied: “Yes, I did felt the love” he said as he looked out of the car’s window. That night Mateo went to sleep early; it had been an exciting day for him at school. He dreamt about a special balloon maker that made the most amazing balloon figures. In his dreams, he saw green dragons, blue dolphins and big gray elephants. The balloon maker asked Mateo an important question: “What is your favorite color?” “I like red!” hi replied. Three seconds later he gave him a red puppy balloon that Mateo loved. He told him that he deserved it because he had learned a lesson on Love and that is always a wonderful thing!

But one of the girls told Adriana that she couldn’t play with them anymore because she was very slow at running and was not able to catch up with the other kids. Adriana’s heart sunk to the ground when she heard those words. Luckily, Claire was right next to her and had heard what this girl said about her best friend. Madeline and Andy were born on the same day. Yes, they were twins and since that day they were bonded in a very special way. The first one to be born was Andy, and then came Madeline. Mom and Dad were really happy because they new that their twins were going to love each other very much and also have a lot of fun together. That morning Mommy told the twins that they were going to go to the park, so they packed some of their favorite things to play with, including a frisbee, some toys and costumes. After having a nice short walk, they arrived at last. The park was one of their favorite places to go to in the whole world. There was soft green grass, red and blue slides, yellow flags, green swings and a multicolored merry- go-round. They even had friends who lived near by that played with them all the time. That morning they were very happy to see their friends Tom and his sister Penelope. All the kids reunited at the merry-go-round to agree on a fun game for everyone to play together. So Andy said that he wanted to play hide and seek, but Madeline said she wanted to play dress up, after all they had brought their favorite costumes. This was going to be an issue; they didn’t want to change their minds. As Mommy was listening near by, she came up with an idea about how to solve this problem. She grabbed the backpack with the costumes and called the kids to come quickly. “Now listen, there is no reason for you two to argue, you can respect each other’s ideas and have a lot of fun together! Here, let me hand you guys these
awesome costumes” said Mom. “Mandy can be a fairy with beautiful wings, Andy can be a superhero, Tom can be a firefighter and Penelope can be a dancing ballerina with a tutu” explained Mom. “And now that you are all ready, you can go play hide and seek!” “Thank you Mrs. Tomas!” said Penelope with a big smile. “You’re welcome!” “ always to respect each other’s ideas and find a way to make everybody happy… don’t forget.” So the twins and their friends had an awesome time at the park and learned that even do ideas can be different, we have to respect one another. The only downfall of the game was Mandy´s costume. Her wings were so big she could be spotted from a mile away! She could be seen behind the trees, the slides and behind the water fountain. That night Madeline and Andy went to sleep early; it had been a busy day for both of them. They dreamt about a special balloon maker that made the most amazing balloon figures. In their dreams, they saw black and white pandas, green funny frogs and red ladybugs. The balloon maker asked each, Madeline and Andy, an important question: “What is your favorite color?” “I like yellow!” said Madeline. “I like brown!” replied Andy. Three seconds later he gave Madeline a yellow butterfly balloon, and for Andy, he gave him a brown monkey balloon. A story about Responsibility
Mike was a boy that lived in New York City. He liked many things about New York. He liked to walk to Central Park, he liked to see all the museums and he liked to see all the lights at night. The one thing he wasn’t so sure about, was the tall buildings, sometimes they felt like giants in the sky. He was walking with his Dad one day when he saw a lady running in the street; she was carrying a very big black backpack. “Why is that lady running?” asked Mike. “Well, my guess is that she is late for something” answered Dad. “Why does she have such a big backpack?” questioned Mike. “I think that it could be a musical instrument,” answered Dad. “A music instrument like a piano Daddy?” asked Mike very excited. “Yes, like a piano, but this one is likely to be a saxophone, a trumpet or maybe a violin, something smaller.” “Wow, I want one of those instruments!” added Mike. “Well Son, I´m glad that you said that because I told you I had a special surprise today. We are going to a concert with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra!” “And what’s an Orchestra Daddy? asked Mike. “An orchestra is a big group of people playing different types of musical instruments,” replied Dad. “I can’t wait to get there!” Mike shouted.
Mike and his dad arrived at the Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center. It was one of the most beautiful buildings Mike had ever seen. So big and full of lights! Mike sat next to his Dad. The room was very quiet and the lights went off. Mike felt his heart beat faster; Daddy held his hand and told him he didn´t have to fear. Then the lights went on and there were a lot of musicians with many musical instruments on a huge stage. The music began. It was the most wonderful sound that Mike had ever heard. He recognize one of the musicians, it was the lady that was running in the street with the backpack! At the end of the concert Mike applauded with great enthusiasm. He had loved the whole experience: the lights, the music and the audience. For Mike it was more than sound, it was magic, magic coming out of the wise hands of all those musicians! “Look Daddy, it´s the lady that was running on the street” said Mike pulling Dad’s shirt. “Oh! Yes you are right,” exclaimed Dad. “Now I know why she was running, she didn´t want to be late for the show” said Mike. “Yes indeed! All of the musicians have a big responsibility. They have to show up to rehearsals on time, and also show up for concerts on time. That is what we adults call been responsible” said Daddy trying to teach Mike a life lesson. That night Mike went to sleep a little later; it had been a long day for him. He dreamt about a special balloon maker that made the most amazing balloon figures. He saw yellow giraffes, gray mice and red cars. The balloon maker asked Mike an important question: “What is your favorite color Mike?” “I like green!” he responded. Mommy was wearing a beautiful black lace gown and Daddy had on a black and white tuxedo. “Are you going to a wedding?” ask their youngest daughter Sofia. “No sweetheart, we are going to an award ceremony!” answered Mom. “What is that?” asked Sofia trying one of Mommy’s shoes. “Well, it´s like a big party where they give awards to people for doing a good job.” “Cool! Can we go too?” asked Sofi. “No, sorry sweetheart, it’s only for adults.” “Not cool. So, who is going to take care of us tonight? You and Daddy can’t leave us. “Well, you and your sisters are going to be ok. I hired a babysitter for the night; she will be here any minute.” Sofia was not happy. Her whole world was put upside down when she heard she was not going out with her parents. She was dreaming of wearing that special dress she had used for the elegant Christmas dinner. She would imagine herself dancing on Daddy’s shoes all night long. But there was a knock on the door and Sofia stopped dreaming. “Hello Sara! Please come in” said Daddy. “Girls, come here please. I want you to meet your babysitter for tonight, her name is Sara” said Mom. “Sara, these are our girls Stacey, Loren and Sofia, who are eight, six and three”
explained Mom. “Nice to meet you girls” said Sara. Sofia looked at the babysitter as if she were the enemy. “Well girls, please be obedient to Sara. She is in charge of you tonight” “I was thinking you guys could watch a movie, eat some dinner and then go to bed” said Mommy kissing each girl in their heads. “What time are you going to be home Mom?” asked Sofia. “Daddy and I are coming home very late, so you girls are going to bed when Sara says so” said Mom. “And what about my bedtime story?” asked Sofia. “Well you can show Sara what book you want to read tonight and she can read it to you. Now we have to go.” “Good night girls, be good!” said Daddy. Sofia was sad. She ran to her room and she shut the door. She stared to talk to herself while she was sitting on her bed with her arms crossed: Sara is not my mother and I don´t need to do what she tells me! There was a knock on the door. “Can I come in?” asked Stacey, the oldest sister. “Yes” responded Sofia. “I heard what you said about Sara. You know, I understand how you feel Sofi, but you need to learn that there are going to be other people around you that are not Mom or Dad, and you need to be obedient” “It’s part of growing up!” said her big sister. Then, she continued: “It’s not bad, trust me, Just do what they tell you and you will be all right” “Come on, let´s go eat some pizza, will tell Sara to order your favorite kind: four cheeses! The girls had lots of fun that night with Sara. She was a very sweet babysitter
and took good care of them. When it was bedtime, Sofia looked at Stacey and ask her kindly to help her put on her favorite pajamas. Stacey agreed. “Thank you for talking to me Stacey. I had a lot of fun tonight with the babysitter, it wasn’t that bad” said Sofia. “Sure, no problem” answered Stacey. “It’s time for bedtime stories!” said Sofia with a big smile. A story about Honesty
Jordan and Elijah were showered, dressed and ready! Mom had promised that if they kept good grades in school, they would go visit one of the biggest candy stores in the country. “I see you two are ready to go!” “If only it was so easy getting you all ready to go to school each day” teased Mom. The family got in the car. They were ready with healthy snacks for the threehour drive. “Hey Mom, it’s very hot out here, do you think that the candy is going to melt?” asked Elijah, who was the youngest of the two brothers. “Elijah, you know they have air conditioning in the store” answered Mom keeping her eyes on the road. “It´s a very big store, right Mom?” Asked Jordan. “Yes boys, one of the biggest in the country. Don’t worry about the candy, it will be ok!” said Mom. The road trip was longer that they thought so they stop for lunch. “Let´s go have some lunch now; I don’t want to go to the candy store with you two on an empty stomach, you will end up sick and there’s no fun in that” said Mom. The family enjoyed a wonderful lunch. There was no desert because everybody was preparing for the candy! After another hour in the car, they finally arrived. It was a huge candy store with every kind of sweet you can imagine. There were: lollipops, chocolates, gummy worms and cotton candy. So many flavors and so many shapes!
“All right boys, there are three floors, so let´s look around before we buy anything” said Mom. The two boys couldn’t believe the amount of candy that this store had. They even found some sweet popcorn with amazing combinations like chocolate, caramel and peanut butter. In one of the aisles, Jordan found his favorite candy in a very large box. It was a baseball card made out of chocolate, it came in a very nice package of three cards. One of the packages was open leaving two of the cards easy to steal. Jordan looked around and Mom was busy helping Elijah to pick his favorite candy. It was so easy, just reach his hand and grab the baseball card, but he knew this was stealing and it was wrong. So he took a deep breathe and called one of the ladies that worked at the store. The girl came right away to help him. “Excuse me Miss, these baseball cards are open, maybe you should pick them up before someone steals them” said Jordan. “Oh, thank you very much for telling us!” said the store clerk. “Sure! No problem” responded Jordan. Mom heard the conversation and immediately understood that her son wanted those cards but didn’t take them. Her heart melted when she realized how much her little man had grown. So she secretly bought one of the packages of cards and gave them to him for his birthday. Jordan couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the chocolate cards. He knew in his heart that he had done the right thing and now Mom was rewarding him for that. That night Jordan went to sleep early…it had been a busy day for him. He dreamt about a special balloon maker that made the most amazing balloon figures. He saw brown horses, blue bicycles and yellow lions. The balloon maker asked Jordan which was his favorite sport. Jordan said: “Baseball!” Three seconds later he gave him a baseball bat with a white mini baseball balloon.
He told him that he deserved it because he learned a lesson on Honesty and that is always a wonderful thing.
