Gung Ho Movie Review: Perspectives of Human Resource Development The auto factory helped the entire town of Hadleyville. It enabled the townspeople to have a job. Because of that, the townspeople owed their living, one way or another, to the auto factory. Unfortunately, the auto factory closed down, which in turn, affected the entire town. Stores started closing, people started to leave and the people who didn’t leave are now worried how are they going to provide for their families. It is when they sent a representative of their town to seek out the help of Asan Motors to present the advantages of re-opening the shop that would help their family. Suppose that I’m Hunt Stevenson hired as the HR Officer of ASSAN Motors, this is what I would do in the following areas of human resource development: Recruitment: I firmly believe that attracting and hiring the most qualified candidates and matching them to the jobs for which they are best suited is significant for the success of the organization. I would make sure Assan Motors finds the people who are fit and apt for the job, people who are capable of doing the job and people who can do the job. I would also try to hire new recruits to get new, innovative and creative ideas. Training: It is crucial for the employees of the company to be trained as it serves as a way for employees to attain new skills and to hone and develop pre-existing ones. I would choose the people who showed potential in their skills, as well as, people who showed great leadership and willingness to learn. Since training is like an “investment” made by the company, I would choose employees that I know would stay with the company for a long time. By doing this, I would help the company train a talented employee that would help the company in the long run. Employee Motivation: I think motivating employees is vital to the success of the company. I would focus on complimenting them of their achievements rather than criticizing them on their failures. If employees fell that their work is undermined or unappreciated, their morale and productivity will be greatly affected. I would also improve the company’s incentive program and benefit scheme. For example, once the company reaches their year-end goal, a certain reward would be given to the employees. I believe that by doing this, it would help in motivating the employees to perform better in order to reach the company’s goals.

Employee Counseling and Discipline Applicable corrective actions will be strictly enforced to erring ASSAN Motors employees, applying the progressive penalty appropriately. Every employee, regardless of their position, shall be given equal and unbiased treatment. An ASSAN motors employee who commits a violation shall be given a due process and depending on the severity of the violation, the employee could be given another chance. Organizational Communication I would prioritize employee engagement in order to “kick-start” organizational communication. In addition to this, I will send-out surveys while the employee engagement in ongoing in order to find out what the sentiments of the employees are, as well as their needs and concerns regarding their job, work conditions and the company itself. I would also implement “town halls” and assemblies in order to update the employees with the current situation of the company as well as the directions that the company will be taking. In the said town hall, I could also introduce new associates, greet birthday celebrants as well as to have activities that would serve as employee engagement. Career Development What I would do first is to train the employees of ASSAN motors in the different aspects of the company, i.e. where welders are taught and trained to do fabricate metal, etc. After the employees are trained, I would then rotate them to the different areas of the company in which they were trained. It would enable the employees to gain more experience, as well as, develop and practice their learned skill. With this, the employees of ASSAN motors would then be able to grow even more as professionals. Change Management I would first get the message across to all employees of ASSAN motors that there would be some changes to the company. The direction of the company and the changes it would like to purse, should first be carefully thought of. i.e, ASSAN motors decide to branch out and manufacture different vehicles other can cars. I would select employees which have potential to become team leaders and I would assign them to be the change leaders of their respective areas/departments. They would oversee how the change message gets across to all employees. I would also use townhalls to get the change message straight to the employees. Leadership Development I would select certain employees who showcased potential to become a leader of their respective fields. I would then train them, as well as, send them to take masteral courses, seminars and workshops that would enable them to become a better employee and a better leader. I would then require them to share said experiences and train their staff about what they learned. Being assigned to oversee different teams/areas within the company would give them the chance to gain more experience in leadership development.

The auto factory, which employed most of the people in the town, closed down. Their problem is their new American employees who are used to a different work ethic. He is able to motivate the employees. He earned the trust of his fellow employees. He cares about the needs of his employees, he tries his best to understand them. The American workers in the film are hard-working, confident and familyoriented. However, they are too confident in themselves. The Japanese workers in the film are hard-working and engaged in the company. However, they work too hard to the point they don’t have time for their family. Stevenson’s first goal is to “win over” Assan motors in buying the Hadleyville auto factory Yes. It would serve as a reward to the employees for accomplishing the goal. It would motivate the employees to improve their performance. Kazihiro : The company is all that matters Stevenson: Family, friends are what matters Kazihiro and Hunt succeeded in motivating the employees. They were able to push them to their limits. Their agreement wasn’t ed along to the employees properly. They weren’t honest to their employees. He decided to look past the fact that some of the cars weren’t perfect, weren’t drivable even. But he saw that the team worked hard and worked together which made him declare the goal was accomplished. The strong foundation of leadership will project a good model to all employees. The employees would aspire to

become like their leaders. Together, it would translate to good performance which is good for the company.
