GTTABLE Subsystem
1.1
Introduction
GTTABLE Commands
GTTABLE is a subsystem which provides the with a convenient language for storing and retrieving tabular data. These data are then available for use by other subsystems, GTSTRUDL for example. Originally implemented as a stand-alone subsystem, GTTABLE, is now an integrated part of GTSTRUDL. The purpose of this Manual is to familiarize the with how to create and modify tables. Tables created by GTTABLE are structured as shown in Figures 1.1-1 and 1.1-2. These tables are two-dimensional arrays with an arbitrary number of columns and rows containing data. Each row represents a unique item within a given table, while each column represents a unique heading for data in the table. The names of items and headings may be up to eight characters long. GTTABLE provides for two data sets in which tables may be stored; one a data set, and the second a subsystem (GTSTRUDL) data set. Both data sets allow the to protect data in a table by specifying a unique for each table. Data in any table are always available for output, even when the table is protected. Besides the simple inputting and outputting of the tabular data, the information within the table also can be ordered. The items in a table can be ordered by increasing or decreasing value of a particular heading. Such orderings may then be used to arrange other headings in the table. The orderings and arrangements created by GTTABLE may be used by other subsystems to aid searches through a particular table. As the commands of GTTABLE are described, the examples presented will construct the table in Figure 1.1-2. This table will be referred to by the name ‘EXSTEEL’, and it will be placed in the data set. At the conclusion of this report the complete sequence of commands will be presented.

GTTABLE Commands
GTTABLE Commands
GTTABLE commands are organized into table operation blocks. Each operation block performs one of the following functions: INITIATE MODIFY DELETE OUTPUT ORDER TRANSFER Each table operation block must begin with an operation heading command. Specific operation commands may be given only after the appropriate operation heading command is given. All Table operation blocks, except OUTPUT, must be closed with a ‘FILE TABLE’ command. In the discussion that follows the GTTABLE commands are presented in operation blocks. An operation heading command is described, then the specific operation commands appropriate for that block are described. Before any specific command or operation heading commands can be processed, the TABLE command must be given. This is accomplished with the following command: TABLE (‘title’)
Elements: ‘title’ = an optional 64-character description of the TABLE job which follows. After TABLE command is given, the GTTABLE commands described in the remainder of this document can be given.

= Optional for the particular table being created. If a is given here, it must be given on all other commands specifying a . This command is used to create a new table. The table may be created under the data set. A may be attached with the particular table if so desired. Once a new table has been initiated with this command, the following commands may be used with this operation block: ADD HEADING ADD ITEMS MODIFY ITEMS
EXAMPLE: INITIATE TABLE <EXSTEEL’ or INI ‘EXSTEEL’
The above examples all create the same table ‘EXSTEEL’ in the data set without a .

EXAMPLE 1
12.1 EXAMPLE 1: Building a Table from an Existing table GTTABLE can be used to build special subsets of the subsystem tables provided with GTSTRUDL. s of the Member Selection capabilities of GTSTRUDL should consider building special tables, since they can increase the efficiency of the selection process. The following example shows how a table of W14 shapes is built from the GTSTRUDL table WSHAPES9. In addition, several W14s are deleted from the resulting table. TABLE ‘Building Special Tables’ $ TRANSFER SUBSYSTEM TABLE ‘WSHAPES9’ TO TABLE ‘W14’ TRANSFER ITEMS FROM ‘W14X730’ TO ‘W14X22’ FILE TABLE $ DELETE TABLE ‘W14’ DELETE ITEMS ‘W14X605’ ‘W14X455’ ‘W14X283’ ‘W14X211’ FILE TABLE $ ORDER TABLE ‘W14’ ORDER BY INCREASING ‘AX’ ARRANGE ‘SY’ ON ORDERING ‘AX’ WITH ID ‘AXSY’ ARRANGE ‘SZ’ ON ORDERING ‘AX’ WITH ID ‘AXSZ’ FILE TABLE $ OUTPUT TABLE ‘W14’ ALL $ FINISH The above example creates a special table of W14 shapes, which is to be permanently stored on the data set (DAT.DS).

EXAMPLE 2
GTTABLE
12.2 EXAMPLE 2: Building a New Table s of GTSTRUDL may find it convenient to build their own tables of frequently used member properties. The following example illustrates how such a table can be built. The table WELDPG supplies only those properties required by GTSTRUDL for analysis, as described in Table 12.2-1. If the table is to be used for member selection or checking, additional properties must be included in the table (see Example 3 of Section 12.3 for ISHAPES and Table 12.3-1 for properties description). The specific properties to be added for member selection depend on the cross-sectional shape of the profile, and the GTSTRUDL design code being used. The is referred to Volume 2A, Section ASD9, TOWER2, etc. for a description of additional properties required for member selection. Properties are given after the profile name in the same order as given in the ADD HEADINGS command. s must the accuracy of all tables they build, as no internal checks are made in GTSTRUDL of data taken from tables. Properties which are not included in a particular table are taken as zero by GTSTRUDL.
