Introduction A skirt is the lower part of a dress or gown, covering the person from the waist downwards, or a separate outer garment serving this purpose.[1] The hemline of skirts can vary from micro to floor-length and can vary according to cultural conceptions of modesty and aesthetics as well as the wearer's personal taste, which can be influenced by such factors as fashion and social context. Most skirts are self-standing garments, but some skirt-looking s may be part of another garment such as leggings, shorts, and swimsuits.
In the western world, skirts are more commonly worn by women; with some exceptions such as the izaar which is worn by Muslim cultures and the kilt which is a traditional men's garment in Scotland and Ireland. Some fashion designers, such as Jean Paul Gaultier, have shownmen's skirts.[citation needed] Other cultures traditionally wear skirts.
At its simplest, a skirt can be a draped garment made out of a single piece of material (such as pareos), but most skirts are fitted to the body at the waist or hips and fuller below, with the fullness introduced by means of darts, gores, pleats, or s. Modern skirts are usually made of light to mid-weight fabrics, such as denim, jersey,
worsted, or poplin. Skirts of thin or clingy fabrics are often worn withslips to make the material of the skirt drape better and for modesty.
Skirt are essential items o women’s wardrobes. They vary in shape and style. Skirts are more flexible and versatile than dresses because skirts are free- hanging- extending from the waist down. Skirts are matched easily with a lot of blouses and skirt can be worn more than dresses. Skirts are garments from the waist down the knee length, calf length or ankle length. Skirts are made with waistbands, continuous waistline bias bounded, side garter or all-around garter or all-around garter waistband , and with hip yokes. Skirts are the cornerstone of women’s fashion, and continue to evolve as the decades . They are a flexible item of clothing that isn’t out of place in a formal or informal setting. This is one of the biggest reasons why they are so popular, and you’ll no doubt encounter various types of skirts in different styles, colors and lengths that look amazing on you. If you use the right techniques when picking what to wear, it’s possible to look completely different when wearing different types and styles of skirt. In this post you’ll find different types of skirts with pictures and information about each of them, as well as some general advice on when each one is likely to be most suitable for you to wear.
Skirt Styles for Formal Occasions For more formal occasions, such as when selecting business attire for women, look to be conservative with color. Suitable colors may include black, brown, navy or possibly even white. Mixing in pinstripes with these sorts of colors could offer a very effective formal look, and will add some variety to your wardrobe while maintaining an air of professionalism. Take a close look at the different types of skirts with pictures, and you’ll find it relatively easy to determine how you should dress for work, a formal evening out or when you’re spending time with friends. Selecting skirts that are knee length and below would definitely be considered to be formal attire. Anything shorter than this length could possibly be deemed unprofessional, and therefore unsuitable for the workplace or an interview. Don’t be too over-adventurous with your footwear selection; flats or possibly small heels will look best again, and should preferably be in a more
conservative coloring. Make sure that your shoes and skirt are the same color for maximum effect.
Skirt Types for Casual Occasions If you’re looking for specific skirt styles for a casual occasion, as you know, you’re likely to have different practical requirements. You have a license to wear brighter and more adventurous colors, such as shades of pink, red and yellow. These still need to be co-ordinated with the right top. You may also like to experiment with prints but that these can only be worn on your top or bottom half, never both at the same time.

2. Gored Skirt. A "gore" is simply a triangular of fabric. For a skirt the tip of the triangle is nipped off, resulting in a sort of long trapezoid. This eliminates excess fabric at the waist while still providing fullness at the hem. Gored Skirt is are usually knee high and have seams that open up when there is movement and close when there is no movement. The skirt is worn for casual and semi –formal occasion.
3.Circular skirts- The circular skirt is a perfect circle especially when laid flat on the floor. It drapes around the body like waves. This is worn for casual and semi-formal occasions.
4.The Pleated skirts- The pleats vertically run up and down. The length are usually knee or above the knee. Pleated skirts are worn for casual or semi-formal occasions.
5. Gathered skirt - a skirt whose fabric is drawn together around the waist. dirndl - a full skirtwith a gathered waistband. skirt - a garment hanging from the waist; worn mainly by girls and women
6.. Layered skirt or Tiered skirt Tiered skirt, made of several horizontal layers, each wider than the one above, and divided by stitching. Layers may look identical in solid-colored ..
7.Wrap skirt – This type of skirt is primarily just a rectangular piece of fabric, which you wrap around your waist. Wraps are suitable for both thinner and curvier women because the fabric is looser. After you wrap the skirt, the style may even reflect a straight or A-line skirt.
8.Yoke or combination skirt A yoke is a shaped pattern piece which forms part of a garment, usually fitting around the neck and shoulders, or around the hips to provide for looser parts of the garment, such as a gatheredskirt or the body of a shirt. Yoke construction was first seen in the 19th century.
9 .Coulottes are loose fitting shorts that look more like a skirt when worn. They are similar to a skort (garment that is mix between short and skirt) but not exactly
10.A-Line Skirts This skirt style was named ‘A-Line’ because they fit tightly at the waist, emphasizing hips and thighs but further down they flare, just like the shape of a letter ‘A’. It draws attention to the hips because of the fitting and therefore is very popular amongst curvier women. Some important variations of this style Godet, Gypsy and the ed skirt.
11. Godet skirts – Features are fabric in triangular pieces that are inserted from the body to the hemline. This creates a slimming look for those with a wider waist, and draws attention from this area to the hemline
12. Gypsy skirts – Fitted in an A-Line style around the waist, but the length extends to the ankle. Additional ing or crinkling should be avoided around the hip area for pear shaped women, as it can draw attention to that area of the body very easily
13.Tube or pencil skirt – These are fitted down to the knee. What differs between the Tube and the pencil skirts is that the former run down to the ankles. These are designed for those that possess an hourglass figure, as the excessive fitting can be harsh on the silhouette otherwise. They’re very suitable for formal occasions
14. Tulip skirt – Overlapping pieces of fabric like the petals of a tulip form this style of skirt. Length is usually to the knee or longer, but not below midcalf. Again, this style creates a slimming effect and can be considered for wear by all body types.
15. Bubble skirt – These
skirt types employ a hemline that ‘goes in’ all around the skirt at various points, which create a ‘bulky’ effect to the silhouette. These fall in and out of fashion, but are worn often enough to justify having one in your wardrobe. Due to the nature of the strange hemline, fabrics are usually softer and more flexible.
16 Drape Skirt - the clever contouring of a draped skirt disguises love handles and
less-loved thighs while elongating the silhouette with ladylike finesse
