Common Core Standards The Common Core State Standards for Grades 1-3 are similar in many ways. I created my Reading
Tab-Its for Grades 1, 2, and 3 to cover each of the
specific standards for that grade level. There are many similarities and differences with each
resource. Therefore, I chose this Cause and Effect FREEBIE Tab-It because this standard is addressed in all three grade levels of the common core.
The cover page for each Tab-It has the specific
common core state standard for that skill area for each of the specific grade levels. However, the
comprehension skill pages is the same for each level book.

Instructions
Reading Tab-Its are an excellent way for your students to hone in on the important
comprehension skills they need to practice and master throughout the school year.
After your students complete the Tab-It Book for
a specific comprehension lesson, have them cut
each page out by following along the gray dotted lines. Then, put three staples on the far left side of the Tab-It Book and allow the students to glue
them into their Reading or Language Arts Interactive Notebooks.
Fits perfectly in a spiral bound notebook or a composition notebook.

Teaching Notes Every week during my Reading Block, I am expected to teach a comprehension skill and strategy for the week. Each of the skills and strategies is aligned to our reading series and the Common Core State Standards. I meet with each of my Guided Reading groups every day. One day we work on a word work activity that focuses on their high-frequency words and the spelling pattern for the week, one day we focus on our fluency and using different reading strategies, and the other two days we focus on the comprehension skill and activity that aligns with our guided reading book. After we do our pre-reading activities, we jump right in to our comprehension skill for the week. We read our guided reading book as a group and then I conduct a mini-lesson on the skill of the week. After the mini-lesson, I introduce the Reading Tab-It that is aligned with the skill. We work on this Tab-It book for two days during our group time and adhere them to our Reading Interactive Notebooks when they are completed. I hope you enjoy implementing these Reading Tab-Its in your guided reading groups!
