EXPOSITION The giant and the children are introduced in the story. The setting is also described.
COMPLICATION The giant returns to his castle and sees the children. He sends them away and builds a wall. Only winter stays in his garden because he is selfish.
RESOLUTION The giant sees spring in his garden because the children are there. He places the little boy on the tree and knocks down the wall. He plays with the children in his garden.
CLIMAX The giant sees the little boy who is little Jesus. He takes him to Paradise for his good nature and generosity.
CODA The children see the giant dead and covered with white flowers.

THE GIANT The giant is the central character in the story. He is a round character because his character changes in the story. At first, he is selfish, but later he becomes generous and kind-hearted. At the end, the giant goes to Paradise for his kind-hearted and sharing nature.
THE CHILDREN The children also play an important role in the story. They are flat characters because they don’t change in the story. At first, they are afraid of the giant because he is rude to them. Later, they become friends with him when they see that he is kind.
SNOW, FROST, NORTH WIND, AND HAIL They are minor characters in the story. They occupy the giant’s garden because they know he is selfish and so Spring will not come there. But they all leave when Spring enters the garden.
THE LITTLE BOY The little boy is also an important character in the story. He is little Jesus who comes to teach the giant the lesson of sharing. When the giant becomes generous, he comes to take him to Paradise. He shows him through his wounds how sacrifice and sharing are the best qualities in the world.
THE CORNISH OGRE He is just mentioned in the story as the giant’s friend. He is an unseen person because there is no description of him anywhere in the story. He is an unimportant character in the story.
