2018-05 MAY - Calibre IRC New Bookz and Ebooks ================================================ This months (May) Torrent/library has 4,740 Books in about 5.56 Gig. While minor text changes are in the text below, at the end you will find a section named "Changelog and additions" with descriptions of any major changes There are two main sources of Ebooks on IRC (Internet/Relay/Chat, the Undernet/#bookz network/channel and IRChighway/#ebooks network/channel). Up until recently most of the monthly torrents were based ONLY on the train packs from IRChighway.. A few months ago those "train packs" from IRChighway started coming out later and later (they were/are about 5 months behind now). On a daily basis there are HUNDREDS of new books posted on IRC daily, so we set out to design a system that would capture the daily new stuff from BOTH networks. Since a lot of people use the free Calibre Library manager, and import the books into it, we devised a way of releasing it as a working library in a torrent, (with the stuff already imported and ready to go, and embedded into the epubs). in addition we standardized on one single format (epub... already compressed like a zip or rar), each ebook with covers and metadata embedded.. The result is the "Calibre IRC New Bookz and Ebooks" Library, Working Calibre Library in a Torrent, They are a bit large, usually about 7,000 Books in about 9 Gig. The name will start with the current year-month YYYY-mm, and for easy Visualization, Followed by the three character month abbreviation in all CAPs. This Library/Torrent is of All new/DAILY Ebooks, posted this month, in both undernet AND IRChighway. Collected/Cleand/and posted each month The books in this library are complete, Deduped, commonly cleaned/named, have covers, converted to .epub format, metadata Checked/Updated, are polished, are all in ready to use Calibre Libraries. (if you want or need them in another format, they are easily converted) This torrent is the actual working Calibre library used for cleaning (and will have some CC's and templates in it used for cleaning, but rather than delete em, some find it instructional to see how it is done, so we left em). While the books are still in AST order , there are three changes/Custom Columns used for cleaning, and by popular request, left in.. The series field is broken up into two separate columns for the Series Name (ES = Extended Series, ES Name) and the Series Index (ES Index) is in it's own field (and made text instead of a number only ), and the Author is FN LN and a CC Named "Sorted Author by LN, FN" is in there too...Those ES CC's are then pushed back into series, and then the ebooks are "polished" so the internal metadata is updated. The second change/addition is the addition of the field "Title Part Two"... The title is just the books title (per cover) and any odd/extra stuff is moved to "Title Part Two" We started using a calibre "plug in" named "Quality Check" that let's us standardize the metadata, and especially initials in names (They are ALL consistent now.... "X. X. " <X = any letter/Initial> The Libraries can be used standalone, or merged with/copied to YOUR Calibre Library, or even imported into your existing non calibre libraries ***IMPORTANT NOTICE***... Calibre IRC New Bookz and Ebooks"... *IF* you save or archive the monthly torrents, make sure you save/archive the "Seeding -" one (not just the "index" one). The magnet Links below are for the "Seeding -" torrent To help organize, an extra file (catalog) of the contents of this months library, is in a .CSV format (Catalog - 2018-04.csv in the main directory). There is a second file "YTD Catalog - 2018 Combined - 01-02-03-04" which are the previous months this year combined. These are smart csv's (first line has field/column names). To view it (or other CSV files) a standalone portable/no install program named cvsfileview.zip. you can also use the "Quick Filter" menu option to search for/select/display) The Calibre Files/Folders are arranged by author, with subfolders for each book under it with the actual ebook file, and cover, and can be used with most other file/library managers... Note that all the epubs are polished/metadata embedded, so the epubs can be "ripped"/flattened to use with other library managers. Mar === A calibre plug in named "quality check" lets us check for various things, like initials, sort, etc (basically internal/consistency metadata stuff that makes it "pretty", and then the plugin "polish" is run to embed metadata and covers in the .epubs in case you export them. The configuration settings for the CSV viewer, now allow a "Quick Filter" (Search) of the data in the CSV file being viewed, if you have the older version, you MUST update it (small, only a 220 KB file), but it allows for full use of the filter ption on view All Previous torrents, and maglinks for them, are listed along with instruction for simple use and a link for a portable version of utorrent (so you can try it)

Apr === A YTD catalog of all books in the torrents for the year are in a (smart) CSV data file (Author, Series Name, Series Index, Title, Title Part Two, Lib Name) The folks in charge of the Train Packs (on IRC Highway) went bannanas. in november of 2017 they had ones from 2017-11-01 to 2017-11-12, when it came time for Train Pack #13 (2017-11-13) they time travelled into the future, and it became 2018-04-01 From now on, we will treat any trainpack release as new daily ed files, and add them as any other daily file(s) May === It appears that books posted on one channel/site one month, are often posted again the following month(s) on other channel/sites. Previously, deduping was done INTRA month (within the same) only, With 8 months of data, we are now deduping INTER month (between various months, there is about a 7% overlap) also, so it should find dupes no matter where they come from or when.

For those that wonder about the 3 to 5 month old stuff in the train packs, those are still available on IRChighway/#ebooks, but as of today, those books will be imported to the current months library as they are released ======================== Last Minute Notes No new accepted suggestions last month (Genre will not be added, and the older IRC stuff had dupes/multiple formats/etc and can't be combined with the current deduped/single format stuff now) But please feel free to suggest more changes/additions, we just love adding new features, and writing "Last Minute Notes", and our wishlist is empty :) oh right, send it to our designated executive wishlister at [email protected] (you can send him thanks too :)
