Dear Students and Participants, I am very pleasure to welcome you in 1st International Meeting of Public Health (IMOPH) which be held at Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia, Depok, Indonesia. IMOPH is main program of our Graduate Students Association (Himpunan Mahasiswa Pascasarjana). It is an International Conference for student of master program and Doctoral program in countries of ASEAN and Asia Pacific for next future. IMOPH was designed by spirit and motivation of young generation with high level education in Public Health. It aims to enhance young academician, scientist, scholar or professional to improve the quality of life and to address public health challenge through education, research and public health service. Introduction About the International Meeting of Public Health 2015 The International Meeting of Public Health (IMOPH) is the first established in 2015 as an initiative of Postgraduate Students’ Association Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia. This conference conducted on October 31 and November 1, 2015 in Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia, Depok. The theme of the conference and meeting, “Sustainable Development Goals for Healthy Future” reflects upon the need to take action through doing the basic and applied research related to health. Based on MDGs achievements we need to focus in health problems that much more needs to be done to sustain the gains so far whilst pursuing the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). IMOPH 2015 consists of two big events: conference and postgraduate meeting. This programs are started by an opening ceremony, keynote and plenary session, oral session, and poster session. We also conducted postgraduate meeting which is attended by public health students to discuss and launch the sustainability of IMOPH in the next years. Our participants are academicians, researchers, students, and others in any backgrounds from different countries, especially in Southeast Asia. During the conference participants will have the opportunity to both network and interact and collaborate with leaders and decision makers, academicians. Finally, we thank all researchers, practitioners, and students who have participated in this conference. Risk factors of childhood obesity in elementary school students in Pekanbaru City Mitra, Fajar Fitrah Institute of Health Science of Hang Tuah Pekanbaru
ABSTRACT Background: Childhood obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation based on BMI calculations with Z score ≥ 2 standard deviation. Obesity in children tend to be obese as adults that impact health problems such as degenerative diseases. Purpose: To determine the factors associated with the incidence of Childhood obesity in Elementary school. Methods: This research used a cross sectional design. Data conducted in May-June 2013 at four elementary schools in Pekanbaru City in 2013. Independent variables are history of parental obesity, dietary habit, physical activity, history of early complementary feeding and sleeping duration. Sample was taken stratified proportional random sampling, obtained 130 students of class 4 and 5. Primary data were obtained from anthropometric measurements and interviews with parents. Data analysis with chi square test and multiple logistic regression. Results: The results showed that the proportion of childhood obesity was 52.3%. Variables associated with the childhood obesity were parental history of obesity (p= 0.002; POR = 3.6), and low physical activity (p = 0.001; POR = 10.3), moderate physical activity (p = 0.004; POR = 8,3) as a reference was an over activity. Confounding variable was dietary habits. Conclusions: The most dominant variables on childhood obesity is physical activity. Recommendation to the school and the parents are more concerned with physical activity of children by increasing extracurricular activities especially for children with a history of parental obesity, and reduce watching television and playing computer games.
