Foreword

In this collection of inspiring poems, I Wish to Live Life, I wanted to share poems that I’ve written through the years. These selections of poems are your favorites and mine, and two new poems, that I have just written. These favorite poems include: The Lord’s Grace, You, Accepting, Take Me to Your Place, God’s Enduring Love, The Child That Plays Alone, All of a Sudden, A New Day, Beyond the Clouds, I Can Always Begin Again, Where the Grass is Green, The Lord Watches Over Me, and many other favorites. Also, in this collection, in my chapter, Those Who Inspire Me, I share poems about those remarkable people who have inspired me greatly. Majority of the poems in this chapter, Those Who Inspire Me, are poems that I have not included in a collection of my seven books. I wanted to share with you all my different types of poems. These poems that I share are: The Conductor, in honor of Harriette Tubman, Riding the Bus, in honor of Rosa Parks, Maya, in honor of the great Poet Maya Angelou, How You Spread Your Wings, How You Soared, in honor of The Tuskegee Airmen of World War II, This Day, A Promise, A Dream Fulfilled, in honor of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, and also a poem, A Soldier for Peace, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In my poem, Thank You for All You Do, I give tribute to the US Military of the Armed Forces and their families, along with other poems of tribute. In my chapter, Family Treasures, I share poems about family, such poems are: Daddy, A Brother’s Love, Sisterly Love, A Flower for you, I Thank God for you, John, and other poems. Also, in this collection is: A Note from the Author, Thoughts About My Son John, I share my son’s accomplishments, to give you more about John, and that he is the joy and inspiration in my life. My hope that this collection will inspire many to discover my many different inspiring poems, whether it be inner peace, hope, healing, inspiration, encouragement, special tribute to those who inspire us, poems to have a better understanding about autism and love. A Note from the Author

Thoughts About My Son John

John was diagnosed with autism at age four. There are many things that I could share with you about John’s autism, instead I would like to share more about many of his accomplishments. John learned how to swim, to ride a skateboard and roller skate. He participated in the 50 ml dash in the Special Olympics. He also learned to communicate his thoughts, even though they are limited. He learned to have eye , when he speaks to someone. John has been able to take a shower, change his clothes and make his own bed with no supervision. Although, John still has a difficult time to any change in his routine, he has brightened up my life with his engaging smile. He has taught me a most valuable lesson, which is patience.

Your smile- I wait for each day. You are the joy that keeps me going. And on every wake of each morning I’m thankful to God for you.

You teach me so much. To love the beauty of you. To love you as you are. And most importantly All that you give to me.

I love your uniqueness. And whether if the day seems cloudy or not You bring the sunshine. You are my inspiration. I wait each day for – your smile.

My Child

My Child may wander off in his own place. My Child may seem distant, And he likes his space.

My Child may not like a crowd. My Child sometimes may be loud.

My Child may not like touch. My Child may not respond and speak much.

My Child likes routine. My Child also likes music and to sing.

My Child may not run and play like other children do. My Child likes the Special Olympics and swimming too!

For there are so many things I can tell you About my child - most certainly.

But there’s just one more thing I got to say My Child is everything in the world to me. My Child

The Child That Plays Alone

He talks to himself and no one hears what he says. His activity seems strange and unusual to some.

If only they would see his gift, he could accomplish More than you know. If only someone would take the time to explore What he has.

He could be a great musician, a great artist, a great dancer A great athlete. He has many toys and he plays by himself. The other children do not understand him. They do not play with him.

He likes to do the same things other children do. And yet he is shut out from the world. He is different, but aren’t we all different.

If only someone would play with him. If only someone would see His Gift! The Child That Plays Alone

Today May Not Be Your Tomorrow

Today the storms may come, but tomorrow, the sun will always shine through.

A Rainbow Of Hope

Storms do come your way. Some seems as though they last forever. But hold on to Hope through the stormsAs they come through.

Hold on to His Everlasting Mercy – His Love. And always Pray! Know that each day you have – is a blessing – And resolve through it all.

Always stay in faith and believe That what seems hopelessHe is the Hope for you to never doubt His Amazing Love.

Storms do not last forever. And His Love will see you through every storm. Hold on to the Blessing -

A Rainbow of Hope – He brings each day you breathe – Life!

Always There

You’re always there through every trial, Every triumph, Your Peace I find. I lift my head up high, Knowing my help comes from You.

I Praise You, Every minute, Every hour, Every day. For You’re always there Guiding me through it all. Reassuring me so much.

You’re my salvation, My joy in the morning To hold me as the evening comes,

And on to the next new day.

There’s so much I can say about You. Your Goodness, Your Grace. And I Thank You To Know You’re Always There.

His Everlasting Love

There’s always a blessing He brings, In every moment of each day. For no matter what life brings From day to day, And whether it seems hopeless Beyond despair, Know that His Love will never fail us, And that we can find strength for the day.

As we hold on to Hope As we believe tomorrow will be better – May we trust in Faith That His Mercy His Everlasting Love will be there Always – For every moment of each day.

A White Rose Of Hope

As we look across the way With the dark clouds upon us I Pray for Hope.

Hope for brighter days ahead. Hope as we face storms coming In every direction We endure.

We can press forward each dayTo never give up And to always give the best of ourselves.

And with the belief that soon The dark clouds will be no more. We hold on to His Grace – As we look across the way We see –

A White Rose of Hope.

Through The Clouds - Hope Lives

Even now at its darkest of times I see His Light shines through. And with the beginning of each new dayI Pray!

I ask for His Strength to see me through. I hold on to see the negativity all around. Yes, even now through its darkest of times – I endure.

And as the light shines through I can see through the clouds With Hope – I hold on.

Hope

Giving up is surrender to no place. When all seems lost, holding on Brings you one step closer to the promise. And as you believe each day is a new day, Your trials can be your triumph. Just believe that it all gets better, No matter your circumstance, No matter what you go through. Believe what is now can change tomorrow. Believe with Faith. And always hold on toHope.

Where’s There’s Hope- There’s Love

There are days when the sun does not shine. And sometimes there will be clouds And the rain will follow. But where there’s Hope - there’s Love.

For even at those most difficult times, And the rain seems as though it will never end. Believe there’s always Hope And the Love He has for you.

Life’s most difficult challenge isA test of faith. And as you endure He will see you through. You will survive!

For even on those most cloudy of days Believe that the sun will shine tomorrow.

As Tomorrow Comes

Hope may seem difficult to hold on to. And whatever challenges you may Experience at the present day, Know it’s a temporary thing. For today may not be your tomorrow.

Hold on to Hope when it seems Difficult to do so. Just Hold On. And believe the sun will rise again. Yes! The sun will rise As Tomorrow Comes.

Morning

Yesterday has come and gone. Tomorrow brings promise, And always hope. And for now, I’m doing alright. Yes! I’m doing just fine. And each breath I take It’s Good! Yes! – It’s All Good! Hello Morning!

So Beautiful The River Each Time It Flows

The river is so beautiful each time it flows. And on this day, I seek You more. There’s a peace that I so find As the waters of the river flows so calm- so serene.

All is well. And when the challenges come, I seek You more than ever in this quiet place Where the river flows. I hold on to hope that tomorrow will be better. For today is a test of my faith.

Things do not stay the same. Each day is new. And there’s always a blessing You bring Each day in one’s life.

On this day I seek You more.

Oh! How beautiful the river Each Time It Flows.

Today May Not Be Your Tomorrow

With each new day, And for what it may bring – Always have Hope. What may be now Can change tomorrow. Pray!

Even if it seems things are not Getting betterTrust in Him most of all. For He can bring a miracle In any given moment. There’s always a blessing Through the storm.

Never stop believing. For where there’s sadness and despairThere’s joy and always triumph.

You’ll never know what each day will bring. Always hold on to- Hope. For Today may not be your- Tomorrow.

Through Forgiveness My Healing Begins

We start to heal through forgiveness. And through forgiveness we can find peace.

As A Flower Blooms – Hope Lives

There’s always Hope to hold on to. And each time the rain comes The sun will shine even more brighter.

Sometimes life may throw us a curve. All of a sudden it may seem difficult To grasp. But with hope and always faith We can know joy in every precious moment.

For as we have each morningAs we awake each day – Each time the sun rises – Each time a flower bloomsThere’s always hope to hold on to. ForAs A Flower Blooms – Hope Lives.

Forgive

Oh Lord! Teach me how to forgive. Show me the way to Love, a better way to live.

Lord! Sometimes I get confused, And I’m not sure which way to go.

I lay my troubles on Your Shoulders, Please help me to grow.

Dear Lord! There are times when the world is unkind, And I find myself in despair.

Please anoint me with Your Love. Even when the world seems to not care.

Direct me in a positive way, So, I can be example of goodness and grace.

I only want to know Your Way, To guide me to the right place. Dear Lord! Please teach me how toForgive.

Alone

Alone does not always stand for lonely. Sometimes it’s a great healing- that space To grow.

Alone sometimes helps you with a great Sense of focus and perspective. And the trials can be triumphs.

Alone sometimes helps you stay encouraged, Empowering you to many heights- many possibilities.

Alone is a period each of us experiences for however Long it may be. Overcoming barriers -moving forward with belief In one’s self.

Alone does not always stand for lonely. For it can take you to other places, expanding

Your horizons, And finding you’re notAlone.

Gathering Stones

Recovering from it all, I pick up the broken pieces Along the way. Drifting away far too long, I now re-group, to get some balance. And I’m ready to begin again.

There’s so much out here To discover. And yet I feel uncertain where I’m going. Taking it one step at a time, I seek the desires of my heart. And my dreams are not far away To be fulfilled.

The Morning Sun

Revelations came to me At the break of dawn. Realizing many things. Looking over my life, How it has been, Where I am now, And where I am going. Letting go of issues from others, Issues I have, I’m facing What I can’t change. And I’m moving forward to a new change. My healing begins. And I can see clear, As I seeThe Morning Sun

As The Morning Comes

At this moment I start anewReleasing all worriesI find strength for the day. For with You – I can overcome any obstacle.

And as I face each dayI Pray! Leaving all with You! I see the joy more than before. And for each day You give me I thank You more each time – The Morning Comes.

Time Heals, And So Does Love

Time heals all wounds, And so does Love. Time gives us a better perspective, A chance to see things differently. For that can only be Love.

Always forgiveness releases The hurt, the pain before. For one’s life doesn’t always stay the same. Things can change in minutes, hours, and years. The good news is, there’s always a chance To change things each day of your life.

Yes, time heals all wounds. But, it’s always the choices we make. For as we invite the love to come within, As we start to see the goodness in everyone. We’ll find that time not only heals-

And So Does Love.

His Amazing Love

My Lord! You’re my strength- my song. You’re the joy in the morning – My healer of all my hurts- my painsYou’re my salvation.

For no matter what I go through. For no matter what each day may bringYou keep blessing me through it all.

My Lord! You not only Heal You’re Merciful. And Yes! You’re a Fixer too!

For to trust in You I must. With all my heart and soul -

I surrender it all.

My Lord! You’re my strength- my song. You’re the joy in the morningMy healer of all my hurts- my painsYou’re my salvation! You keep blessing me through it all. Oh! Your Amazing Love!

May The Flowers Bloom For You

I pray the Lord watch over you. I pray the Lord take care of you. May the Flowers Bloom for you.

May your body be healed of all pain. May you never be lonely, May you always have a friend. May the Flowers Bloom for you.

May the Lord give you strength To keep you today. May His Love surround you- Always. May the Flowers Bloom for you.

I pray the Lord bring you sunshine, And hope each day. And may each day of your life The birds sing,

And the flowers blossom everywhere. For I PrayMay the Flowers Bloom for you.

Silence after the storm, The storm that was raging So long. The Storm is over now. Time to start a new direction. Time to find a new sense of purpose. Leaving what is familiar, Even with new ventures to seek. The old will not be again. And taking it one step at a time, It will be alright. For I’m here, Alive, like I’ve never been before. Thank You Lord! I begin here! I begin withYou!

Peace

Sometimes forgiving can be difficult. Especially, when feeling hurt and disappointed. Sometimes even when the world is unkind, Being right doesn’t hold too much. Letting go can be such a wonderful feeling, And the world will seem much nicer. It’s a matter of perspective. It’s a matter how to deal with it In your mind- in your heart- in your soul. To let go with no hesitation for the simple Reason to be at Peace.

God’s Peace

When the world seems too much to bearToo much to grasp I seek Your Peace within. I find Your Strength to sustain me at all times. And I pray more than ever before. For it’s Your Peace that flows like The water along any brook or stream. It’s Your Peace that makes the new fallen snow So beautiful on a brisk winter’s morning. It’s Your Peace when the birds sing so lovely On a warm summer’s day. It’s Your Peace when the leaves fall So gently in October. It’s Your Peace so beautiful. When the world seems too much to bearToo much to grasp I look up to know You’re always there. With You-

Avenues

Alone, I walk in the morning sun. I find there’re many roads to venture to. Not sure where I’m going. For there’re many directions To follow through.

With so much before me, I find things can change From one minute to the next. And I’m learning life Is all about ing the test.

I ask the Lord to be my teacher. I ask the Lord to be my guide. And no matter what my life may be I feel His Love inside.

May Peace Be With You

As the morning breaks on this most beautiful dayI rest my heart with no heavy sorrow. Only such wonderful thoughts I hold dear of you. And with every joyous moment while you were here I hold on to the understanding it was your time to go.

Each day I find peace. I cherish the times no matter how brief. I am blessed with the joy you brought – And much more.

Sometimes we may not understand why Those we love cannot stay? But as we cherish what they have given To us- whether it be inspiration or – Joy! – We can find peace.

As we the beauty of what They brought to our lives As we them May Peace Be with You.

I Can Always Begin Again

My healing begins through forgiveness. My hurt- my pain is washed away. And as I find the love Always inside of me I can begin again. I can start anew.

He may close a doorFor another door to open. And Life’s twist and turns May be too much to bear at times. But as I lean on Him Trust in Him to know He’ll work it all out in time Oh! Such peace I find.

And with that I can see a new day Always starts with me.

To understand what I cannot change I must surrender it all to Him.

My healing begins through forgiveness. My hurt- my pain is washed away. And as I fill my heart with His Love I Can Always Begin Again.

A Test Of Faith

Faith is when one finds the courage to follow their heart.

I Abide In You

You are the joy in the morning. You are the strength I need each day. You are the wind that holds me through every storm.

You are the light through the darkness. You are the sunshine through the rain. You are the anchor when the waters overflow. And when danger is near, Your Arms surround me to know You will never leave me.

For it’s my faith that keeps me going. It’s my trust in You The reassurance, The peace within my soul, That wherever I am Dear Lord! I believe things that seem impossible -

Are possible alwaysWith You!

Favor

He has you where you are for a reason. And life is forever changing. But without faith - things will remain the same.

Always move forward in - faith. He can move mountains in your life. He can carry you when you cannot carry on. He’ll bring the sunshine through the storms.

His Favor is your faith in Him. Always be thankful for each and every blessing He so brings. And believe that what may seem impossible Is possibleFor every step you take in Faith!

I Cannot Stay Where I Am

This change I find in me, Empowers me to never give up, To endure, With Faith. And whatever obstacles along the way, I can overcome. Today, I own this for self, And go forward with a new vision. To know all things I dream for, Hope for, I can achieve. I cannot stay where I am. And I Thank You Lord for this.

The Storms

He didn’t promise they’ll always be days of sunshine. For rainy days do come. And sometimes they may seem to last forever.

Believe He will always be there To get you through any storm. Yes! – any storm imaginable.

Sometimes storms may be a test of one’s faith. For as you trust in Him To know with no doubt All will be alright - no matter how heavy the storm

He will carry you when you cannot carry yourself. He will bring you through. Even if it seems hopeless. Know that He is hope to hold on to.

He didn’t promise they’ll always be days of sunshine. But He did promise He will always be there through it all. For He will bring a blessing through – The Storms.

The Armour Of God

Only by faith I go forward. For all things are possible with God. And through the storms, He’s always there.

He gives me favor to knowThat no weapon formed against me Shall prevail. No weapon formed against me Will take my – Joy. No weapon formed against me Will devour my – Faith. No weapon formed against me Will destroy my – Hope. No weapon formed against me Will not keep me from Praising Him!

Yes! All things are possible With God!

For He gives me Favor! And with the blessings He so brings Through every trial – through every- Joy! Only by Faith I go forward.

The Lord Watches Over Me

I do not fear the darkness at night. For the sparrow stays within my sight. Oh! How The Lord Watches Over Me.

I do not fear the arrows that come at me During the day. For the Lord is all around, He is with me in every way. The Lord Watches Over Me.

I do not dwell too long in despair. For I know I am in the Lord’s care. The Lord He Watches Over Me.

I trust in the Lord, I hold on to His Unchanging Hand. For when I am weak, He helps me stand. The Lord Watches Over Me.

I will stay in the house of the Lord, He will never leave me. For I know with Faith, He is with me through eternity. Oh! How The Lord Watches Over Me.

Over The Horizon

Even if the rain seems to last forever The sun will always shine through. Always there’s a test in your faith. And time shows that so well.

There are no barriers you cannot overcome. And as each morning the sun rises Each night the sun sets Stay Encouraged!

Hold on to your faith. Find strength through the day. Believe all things work out. Press forward with hope.

For the rain may seem to last foreverBut as you look Over the Horizon -

The sun always shines through.

Rising Above The Storm

The problems keep coming, And don’t seem to go away. I feel so tired, ready to quit, And still I pray. I pray to weather the storm as the tide rises so high. And when I know I’ve done all I can, I find comfort to know that I tried.

So, I Stand! And I Stand! For the Lord gives me strength to get through. And when the days seems cloudy and gray, I don’t carry the blues. So, I pray, And trust in the Lord to know He will always be there. And as the tide rises so high, My burdens are not heavy to bear.

Rising Above the Storm

Words Of Encouragement

I awake this day encouraged. To know I can do all things possible with You. For I cannot go back to where I was. Nor can I stay where I am. But as I move forward I hold on to the promise.

Your Blessings never cease. And Your Enduring Promise is the reassurance There’s nothing You can’t do.

I can rise above any storm imaginable. I can overcome any obstacle. My faith is renewed. And more than ever before I trust in- You! I Awake Each DayEncouraged!

Hold On To The Sunshine After The Rain

We can see the sunshine after the rain. And no matter how difficult The storm, it will be alright.

We can find strength for each dayAs we hold on to His Promise. For He’ll carry us through With His Mercy - His Love so dear.

We can see the light through the darkness. And believe with the astounding faith That He’ll always be there- Always.

We can rise above any storm imaginableFor with Him all things are possible. Yes! All things are possible with – Hope. And we can see the sunshine After the Rain.

The Leap Of Faith

Take the leap of faith and believe Each step you take empowers you To go the distance. Find strength through each challenge You so endure. And when disappointments come, Receive them as blessings To keep going even more. Never give up, No matter what comes your way, No matter how difficult the climb. Just know as you keep going, His Mercy, His Love, Will never fail you. Take the Leap of Faith And – Believe.

The Beauty Of You

The beauty of you is looking within and finding joy.

Joy

For every moment of the day, And no matter what I go through I find – Joy!

For it’s the Joy, that makes my heart Sing! It’s the Joy, that encourages me to keep going.

It’s the Joy, that inspires me with hope, Even when I feel discouraged about today, I stay encouraged for a better tomorrow.

It’s the Joy, that gives me strength To endure the challenges – The disappointments along the way.

It’s the Joy, that lifts me up in spiritTo believe within my heart – and my soulThat nothing is impossible.

It’s the Joy - I hold on to – No matter what I go through With every moment of any given day!

As I Plant the Seeds of My Garden, I plant my goals, my dreams, And my visions of all I wish to do. I cultivate the many goals, I work towards to pursue.

As I Plant the Seeds of My Garden, I vision my dreams blossoming with Many opportunities. And with self - determination, My visions become a reality.

As I Plant the Seeds of My Garden, I’m learning in accomplishing great Achievements, And Success, Comes Courage, And the belief in you!

The Comfort Zone

Great achievements does not come easy. Sometimes you have to venture out Of the Comfort Zone.

When I was a little girl in Louisville, Kentucky. I the names you had for Joyce, Gloria, and me. “Mamma Tub,” “Mamma Pearl,” “Kool-Aid,” I’m not too sure which one was mine. I do know they were given with love, all the time.

I can still see you and Aunt Mary fussing. And how she used to tell you what to do.

And you would tell her a thing or too.

And then when we moved to Harrisburg, PA. And no matter the time, you would sit on the front porch everyday. And when you came home from your job at the Military Depot, You would give me a “wink of your eye.” And you were always cheering George on, When he played football at Old John Harris High.

You were always kind to others and giving of yourself. And how you would take the time to lend someone a hand. Always ready to help.

You taught me about telling the truth is always the best way. For all these things I so well, stay with me today. And how you would wait up for me when I came home late From those parties I went to. For I was blessed to have a “Daddy” watching over me. I was blessed to have you.

In Honor & Memory of Sojourner Truth

She was born a slave the first twenty- eight years Of her life. She was given the name, Isabella, Oh! how she endured the struggles and strife. Her master told her if she would work hard, he Would set her free. And so, she worked, and worked hard endlessly.

Sold like many slaves, she continued to endure. Her master would beat her, because she could Not speak a word of English, and to be a slave, She said: “no more!” And so, she talked to the Lord about her suffering, And quietly she would pray. For she was determined to be free someday.

Her freedom never came. Disappointed, she escaped, More determined to be free. Isabella then changed her name to Sojourner. She became a traveling preacher, speaking of The injustice of slavery.

She made it her mission to speak God’s Word, And traveled from town to town. There were those who would not welcome her, And they would say: “don’t come here, or we

Will burn the building down.” “Then I will speak to the ashes,” she would say. Her name was Truth, but to those who loved her, She was known as (video) in her day.

As she spoke of her life as a slave, she inspired many to listen, And hear God’s Word. She stood for Women’s rights. “Ain’t I A Woman? “is what she did say.

For she was a voice to be heard.

She was a- Liberator! Activist! A Pioneer! For human rights and Liberty. As she preached for Women’s rights, and dignity. “Ain’t I A Woman?” I can do what a man can do. “Ain’t I A Woman?” I am somebody. I count too! “Ain’t I A Woman?” “Ain’t I A Woman? “AIN’T I A WOMAN?”

A Christian Woman Praises The Lord Through her trials, and through her joys. She looks for the good in others. She forgives a thousand times over. She makes no list of wrongs. She opens the door to understanding. She listens and hears with love. She finds peace through the suffering and the pain. She lives her days blessed. She never forgets her family commitments. She speaks truthfully her opinions with kindness and resolve. She lives with comion no matter her circumstance. She prays with a humble heart, without ceasing and always with Faith. A Christian Woman is a doer and believer of the Word. She’s always giving of her heart.

Walls

Walls divide us, separate us, keep us away. Love has no place to stay. Walls limit us to only go so far. They stagnate us from being who we are.

Walls promote ignorance and encourage Discrimination. Differences are not welcomed, leaving not Much room for communication.

Walls block understanding from coming in. They breathe prejudice outwardly and within.

Walls keep our spirits dormant. They do not allow us to trust. They close hearts to where we don’t give The best of us.

Walls – Divide! Divide! Divide! And behind them we hide.

Walls- For if we bring them down. Love! Love! Love! Will stay around. Walls!

Balancing it all together, What makes sense is the Purpose of why I’m here. Where I am meant to beAt peace always, In my soul always. And yes, Love I find everywhere. While other things come and go, Love never dies! I see the morning sun, I start a new day. And it’s all because of You. You have given me new life. Much greater than I can ever imagine. It never left me. Though at times I’ve moved away from it. And this is where I will stay.
