HOW TO USE YOUR ONBOARD TRAINING JOURNAL

Introduction

Preliminary pages: Cadet Personal and Training Information Enter your Personal and Training Information including personal, training and School as required on each page. Use black colored ball pen. School information Use this as your quick reference, on whatever inquiry you need while onboard, information includes the following: Shipboard Training Office: Telephone numbers Email addresses Website personnel’s Note: Be sure to fill-up this data during the orientation Section 1 – Cadet On board daily journal (other than Bridge watchkeeping duties) 



 

It has 17 pages equivalent to 180 days of daily onboard activity; Use this as your daily journal or records of your daily activity on board excluding Bridge Watchkeeping Duties. Every page contents 11 identical table for eleven days of onboard training activities. On the first column (date) enter complete date (it is required that you have to enter an activity everyday especially Safety Drills and all activities you will encounter onboard). On the second column (Location) It has 3 area we call it Location whether the vessel is (1) Underway (2) In Port and (3) At Anchor. Tick on area as applicable. On the last column (Summary of Training Events, Learning Experience and Reflection) Write the work, safety drills, training you encounter on that day, and the most important your learning experiences for that day (you may use an extra notebook if the area is not enough. (see sample below)

Section 2 – Cadet Daily Journal of Engine Room Watchkeeping Duties (DJEWD) 

     

It a Mandatory requirement of… o STCW Code 2010 Chapter III Regulation III/1 o STCW Circular 2014-02 of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) o Commission on Higher Education’s CMO 20 s2014 It has 180 pages in compliance of STCW Circular 2014-02 of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and Commission on Higher Education’s CMO 20 s2014. Use this as your daily journal or records of your daily activity onboard during your Bridge Watchkeeping Duties. Fill it up with table with data as required and transpired during your Bridgewatchkeeping only, all information must be handwritten form. As your reference most of the required data in available on the ship’s Engine Room Logbook. It is your primary task as a cadet to make extra effort to ask question from your officer about the data. Each page is dedicated to one day of your training as it is a requirements to complete your 6 months (180 days) watchkeeping duties no less.

It has 12 pages equivalent to your 12 months onboard shipboard training. Use this forms to record your ISF Onboard Training Book monthly progress report in reference to the Section 5 Engine Cadet Competency Guide
