Missions Strategy Matthew 5:14-16, "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Saturation Strategy When praying and discerning where to go on a Celebrate Recovery Missions trip, consider the following: 1. Go where God leads you to go. There’s no need to look beyond this point in the handout. If God does not call you or lead you to go, don’t go. 2. Go where the need for the further expansion of Celebrate Recovery is greatest. Go where teams have visited before and started to ‘saturate’ the country, but where further awareness and seed planting is needed. See page 6 for a listing of countries where trips have already been taken. 3. Go to places where the materials have already been translated. Celebrate Recovery has been translated to many languages to date. Going to a country where the process of translation and publication isn’t needed will help advance the ministry and its growth in that country faster. Countries whose language is incomplete will likely not get past the ‘saturation’ phase until the materials are complete. 4. Go where you already have a relationship with a local church. Connect with your local mission’s team that already has an established relationship with a local church in another country. Travel along with missions teams on a future trip to cast the vision to the groups and churches they already have a relationship with. 5. that ‘saturation’ will likely involve multiple trips. Successfully completing the Celebrate Recovery Missions Strategy in one (1) trip is highly unlikely. Be committed. The goal of the 1st phase of the Missions Strategy: ADOPT You know you have reached this goal when there is at least one church who will agree to adopt the ministry of Celebrate Recovery. They will agree to begin to develop a healthy ministry built on the Seven Keys and following the Model for transformation.

Maturation Strategy Once God has used you and your team to ‘saturate’ a location and He has raised up a church willing to adopt the ministry, consider the following: 1. Identify a point person in country or from that local church who can assist you in future trainings and collaboration. This person will likely have been identified during the saturation phase. Their responsibilities will include: a. Working with you and your team on any future trainings or ministry startup tasks and educate you and your team on any cultural awareness and any recovery issues you may face. b. Sharing with other missionaries, Christian organizations, Government agencies, businesses or churches around them about Celebrate Recovery. c. Provide assistance on any language translations for communications, presentations or teachings. 2. Begin to prepare workshops and other levels of training to help the local church or churches to achieve the goal of this phase of the Missions Strategy. Work with your point person in making all the necessary arrangements for a successful implementation of the ministry. 3. the International Missions team to update them on the progress on the ministry at this location and to acquire any resources or assistance. The goal of the 2nd phase of the Missions Strategy: BECOME You know you have reached this goal when the leadership of the local church begins the implementation and development of Celebrate Recovery through leadership training and the church develops a solid plan to become a healthy ministry.

Connection Strategy Once the church has been trained, equipped and launches Celebrate Recovery, guide and assist them in how to implement all of the 7 Keys. As you do this, consider the following: 1. On the Leadership Key, encourage them to become trainers of others. Have them invite other groups and churches to their leadership trainings. 2. Encourage them to host ‘networking’ days or to visit other churches or groups during their start-up process to assist in answering questions. 3. Encourage them on the Outreach Key and on the Fellowship Key to begin to invite people from outside the church to attend their meetings and for them to look for opportunities to take the ministry to jails or prisons. 4. Encourage them on how to regularly evaluate their ministries and to continue to look for ways to implement or improve on the 7 Keys. 5. Begin to communicate the vision of local ownership. The goal of the 3rd phase of the Missions Strategy: CONTRIBUTE You know this goal has been achieved when the local church you have been ‘saturating’ and ‘maturing’ now embraces the call and vision to contribute to helping other churches start and grow their own Celebrate Recovery ministries. Resource Strategy Once the local church is reproducing training and equipping and other local recovery ministries are growing, consider the following: 1. Begin to include the local church in all trainings and begin to transfer all future opportunities to train over to them. This is a time to withdraw your team from being closely engaged in any oversight. Your should now move to an observation and behind-the-scenes ing role as needed. 2. Workout a means and a way to stay in touch regularly, to status group activity, growth and to gather prayer concerns and future coaching. Use these times to evaluate sustainability and reproducibility. 3. Encourage the local leaders to own the strategy. 4. Make a list of the key leaders that are involved and list their possible needs for the future. 5. If needs continue: reconfigure the implementation and exit plan.

The goal of the 4th phase of the Missions Strategy: DEPLOY Success of this phase will be determined in how confident the local church is in reproducing themselves, based on how well you trained and mentored them. Growth of Celebrate Recovery in a particular region will be dependent on development of teams who can train and help others. The ministry champion will need to learn how to lead, manage, and celebrate the victories of these teams who are deployed to help other churches in need.

EXALT At this phase and at all phases, give the Glory to God. All of this to the glory of God and now celebrate the Lord and what he has done. Gather together to share stories and tools for developing a Celebrate Recovery and together celebrate the great harvest of souls that God has given our churches. Team Leader Why the position is needed The team leader is someone that has been selected to lead the team on the mission trip. A team leader needs to understand this as a call of God for the trip and be prepared for the increased spiritual warfare that comes with taking this step of leadership. 1. We know through the Great Commission, found in Matthew 28:18-20, that Jesus tells all His disciples to "go and make disciples of all nations," but that doesn't mean that everyone is prepared and ready to go. That's why team leaders are such a valuable part of the mission trip. 2. The job of the team leader begins with mobilizing men and women from the church's community to be part of a mission. It is through the team leader's excitement and vision that others will be encouraged to the team and to take the Good News to the nations. 3. Further, the role of the team leader will be to provide overall leadership to the team; to lead them through the planning, preparation, and completion of a mission trip. Main Goals 1. Approve and equip team . 2. Fulfill the trip objectives by utilizing all of the team . 3. Work closely with Celebrate Recovery International Team 4. Lead the team through processing on the field and debriefing at home, and communicate all information. Qualifications 1. A team leader must have the calling from the Lord, the backing of their local church and the of their families in order to lead. 2. A team leader must meet all the requirements set forth by the sending church and by the Celebrate Recovery International team. 3. A team leader must be a mature, Spirit-led Christian committed to growth. 4. A team leader must have a thorough understanding of Celebrate Recovery as designed and developed by the National Team and Saddleback Church. 5. A team leader must posses the skills necessary to coordinate the trip and lead people in difficult or unfamiliar situations.

Responsibilities In addition to the personal responsibilities set forth for each team member, the team leader has additional responsibilities listed below. Prior to the Trip  Plan and carry out the trip objectives with a safe return for all team .  Complete any training and ensure each team member completes the training.  Arrange Orientation and Debrief meetings for the team with the staff / Missions Pastor, etc.  Report regularly to the staff and communicate information as needed.  Develop the trip budget and submit it to the staff to manage the team's progress.  Work with Celebrate Recovery International team for training agenda, materials, and s for planning, implementation and post-implementation phases of the trip.  Delegate jobs to other team as needed.  Set the itinerary.  Arrange for ground/air transportation and accommodations as needed.  Help to raise any funds needed for the trip. (All funds must be raised under the name of your local church or missions’ organization and not under the name of Celebrate Recovery)  Manage the distribution of funds out of the trip .  Coordinate the development and distribution of the trips ‘prayer journal’ During the Trip  Field leadership responsibilities begin on the way to the airport! The team leader must ensure that each team member successfully navigates through ticket and baggage check in and immigration.  At the team's destination, the team leader confirms up the schedule with the point person.  Ensure that the team has a daily devotion time in the morning before the day's activities begin. The devotions may be led by others as delegated.  Help set the pace for the trip and shield the team from scheduling overload.  Ensure that team have adequate "process" and down time, especially for the first few days on site to discuss among themselves what they are seeing, and to make sense of it all.  Set up a system for handling money on the field and ing for it with receipts and writing up a final report.  Involve and empower the team to participate in assessing needs and conducting training.

After the Trip  Set up a post trip meeting with the team.  Complete any financial reporting required by your church  Document the trips activities, successes, lessons learned and future plans  Prepare and Distribute a trip report to the Celebrate Recovery International Missions team The job of a team leader takes time. This is a commitment, but it can be managed. The team leader may need to say 'no' to other things for several months to follow God's call to lead this team.

Next Steps – Where Do I Go From Here? Discover if God is calling you to GO and where is He calling you? Review the ‘Saturation’ strategy again and pray for God’s clear vision for you.

Pray about and begin to identify who will be going on the trip with you? Who is on your team or in your church that has missions experience or a ion to share this ministry with the world? Invite others to pray about being a part of a future trip. Based on certain factors, consider what type of trip you will be taking? Review the ‘Trip Types’ again and consider where you are going and how familiar the country is with this ministry and how far along you are in the leadership process.

When will the trip take place? Connect with people in that country and review your own personal schedule to consider when a trip might work out.

How will God provide the ? Evaluate all the costs involved and begin to pray about how God will provide the means. What things might He be asking you to do to raise the funds to pay for the trip?
