GRAY HAIR [SIDE EFFECTS] 08/07/2010: Christina from Houston, Tx: "I started taking BSM about three weeks ago. I take a teaspoon daily. About one week after beginning BSM I noticed my silver hairs looked copper colored and some were yellowish. I was happy- I believed the BSM was working to restore my natural color. Now my hair looks yellow and green in sunlight. I do not use coloring agents or chemical processes on my hair and I haven't been swimming. I've already tried a clarifying shampoo, it did not remove the yellow and green. Does anyone have any suggestions for removing these undesirable colors?" Replies 08/08/2010: Addy from Fb, Ga replies: "Use purple shampoo for grey hair. It is sold everywhere. Good luck! " 08/08/2010: Lon from Stanhope, Nj replies: "I'm quite a novice, so may be completely wrong on this subject, but just in case, I thought I'd mention the following. I know a person whose dark brown hair gradually became lighter, but with a greenish tint. This amazed everyone. It was later found to be caused by too much copper in the diet and in a supplement he was taking. I was told he had a susceptibility to this. I may be wrong, but doesn't BSM contain a significant amount of copper? The person's diet had to be changed, supplement eliminated and I think there was a vitamin used to help reverse the effects." 08/10/2010: Christina from Houston, Texas replies: "Thanks to both Addy and Lon for your comments. I already use the purple shampoo, this was a standard before deciding to try BSM. I will stop the BSM and look into vitamins as well as other solutions to reverse its effects." 01/23/2012: Happee from Se Usa replies: "Hi - just FYI, there is no way that something you consume can change the color of the hair that is already on your head (grown out from your scalp). Hair isn't "alive" in that way; it's like your fingernails. So whatever was affecting your hair color came from an outside application, such as chlorine in water.
I don't know about molasses affecting hair color over time, but I do know that there are herbs that are used in Asia that accomplish this, so I would assume that, if molasses treats an underlying imbalance or nutritional lack, it could produce the same result. It would take some time to see whether it works though. The growth rate of head hair for most people averages about 1/4" to 1/2" a month. 1/2" a month is considered pretty fast growth, for example. Using that calculation, you'd have to consistently take the molasses and see if you started to notice a difference in hair color after about six months (since the molasses effect might not start working immediately)."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 06/03/2010: Amy from Scottsdale, Arizona: "6 Month Report I have been taking BSM for 6 months - 3 teaspoons a day. I believe it is beginning to work. My hairline and first several inches looks less gray, although the cowlick, at the back of my head, is still quite gray. I was never very gray, or solid gray. maybe more like 50%. The bottom line is, at 6 months I still need to color my hair every three weeks. However, the gray looks less noticible to me around my face. I shall continue ading the BSM to my tea. Why not? It is tasty enough. And I sooooo want this to work. I don't mind coloring my hair but every three weeks is too often for me." Replies 08/08/2010: Isabelle from Garden Grove, Ca Usa replies: "Hello! I know it is maddening when the hair gets off color. It happen to me 20 or so years ago but it was from to much msm that I was taking for skin problems. Dear, make sure that your Blackstrap Molasses is organic and also check you amount of sulfur in you diet and supplements: some liver can process only small amount of sulfur per day. I don't know if this is pertaining to you, but it doesn't hurt to check. For restoring color, look on iodine and paba. But , what ever you do is connected to you whole body state of health and there is a lot of reading to do on this site and the internet. I hope you get satisfying result! PEACE!" [NAY] 09/04/2010: Amy from Scottsdale, Arizona, Usa replies: "This is Amy, the original poster. I am checking back in at 9 months and was about to say with certainty that this does not work. I have been taking pictures every 3 months and see no improvement and still need to color every three weeks.... However, I have not been taking ORGANIC BSM. I've been taking Plantation brand unsulfured BSM from the health food store but it does not say organic. Hard for me to imagine how this can make a difference. And if the health food store does not carry it, how am I supposed to find it? At the moment I shall not continue with this 'treatment'. I do not see any results and at 1 T a day for 9 months that is a lot of calories for no result."
[YEA] 08/12/2009: Sochie from Boston, Ma: "I have consistently taken 2 tablespoons of blackstrap molasses daily for three months. I was skeptical about the claims that blackstrap molasses could restore your gray hairs to their natural color although I was encouraged by the overwhelming response suggesting that it does, in fact, help. I am 31 years old and have noticed over the past few years that the grays have permeated through my brown hairs and have become prononced around my hairline. I have been spending an unnecessary
amount of money to color & highlight my hair to temporarily cover up the grays. I'm pleased to report that my hairs are gradually returning to their original brown color after regularly using the blackstrap molasses. I have been raving about the natural remedy to family and friends and hope that they will also experience the same benefits."
[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 03/04/2009: Diane from New York, NY: "I started taking BSM and ACV for leg/foot cramps. A friend said that years ago her father was advised to use this remedy and that it not only got rid of his cramps but turned his full head of gray hair blonde again. I've been doing it for about a month and find both to be improving. But I take a Tbs of the BSM off the spoon in the morning followed by about 1-2 tsp of ACV in a little water. Is there some more effective method I should be using?" EC: Many more grey remedies here: http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/hair_gray.html
[YEA] 02/10/2009: Donna Hyde from Lincoln, NE: "hello, i take black strap too i am 54 years old. i don't take it alone. i take 6 alfalfa tabs., and 2 flax seed oil 2 times a day .i use to be gray, i am seeing streeks of brown. and my gray is getting darker. i take my black strap with Braggs apple citer viniger, and warm water. 2 tab.spoons viniger, and 1 tab.spoon black strap 2 times a day. i noticed that i no longer have hot flashes."
[NAY] 10/01/2008: Fee from Melbourne , Victoria: "I've been taking blackstrap molass in my coffee every day for the last 3 weeks and haven't noticed any changes in reversing gray hair. I'll keep at it until the jar finishes and see how that goes. It provides me with a lot of energy. After a run, i normally get tired but takign 2 teaspoons with a drink, i don't feel the need for a nap. However, the calories in it makes you very fat if you don't work it off and I noticed that it gives me a lot of phlegm when I take it." Replies 02/12/2009: Donna Hyde from Lincoln, NE replies: "ho cool, i only have 3 more months to go, thank you for the info."
[YEA] 01/18/2008: Patty from Covina, California: "When I heard about molasses taking white hair off I could't believe it. But I though it was worth to try. every morning in a 8 glass of water I mix two table spoons of the blackstrap molasses, two table spoon of raw honey, and two table spoon of apple cider and drink it. I have to be honest the taste I don't like very much, but the energy i get from that is tremendous, and not only that but because of the apple cider keeps me away from any type of viruses including flu. This is a great thing I am so glad I learn about it because it been already 5 months since I started taking it and almost all my white hair is gone!!! I will take it for the rest of my life, thanks to my Health book I purchase!!!"
Replies 06/14/2008: Anna from Toronto, Canada replies: "Should molasses be used in a glass of hot water or cold water?" 02/12/2009: Donna Hyde from Lincoln, NE replies: "you should dissolve it in something warm. water or milk. then cool it with cold water or milk."
[YEA] 02/24/2007: Mary from Dayton, OH: "After reading here about black strap molasses and gray hair, I have been taking 1-2 tablespoons in my coffee each morning for a little over three months. I tried it in hot water and it was horrible. In coffee, it taste like a latte, and after getting used to it, I look forward to it every day. The first two months I noticed a difference, but wondered if it was my imagination or wishful thinking. Now at three months, I would say the gray is 70% gone, and my stylist is absolutely amazed. The white patch above my forehead is gone completely. I'm 40 yrs old, and was starting to gray rapidly, it was costing a fortune to keep covered. The first 2 months, my hair grew so fast, that the gray was showing quicker, but I'm glad that I stuck with it, the little bit I have left is hardly noticeable, and I am hoping that in time, it will all be gone. I am so thankful that I read about this on your site, and will be taking it for the rest of my life. I have also noticed an increase in energy, and believe it to be the molasses also. Thank you!"
[YEA] 01/21/2007: Karen from New Marshfield, OH: "I've been taking molasses for about 1 month now and can feel the difference. I have more energy and yes, my dark brown hair is getting dark again! The gray is becoming less and less!" Replies 07/10/2008: Norma from Plainview, TX replies: "Venice from Atlanta, GA, please please tell me the exact measurements you use of each of the items you use on a daily basis along with black strap molasses."
[YEA] 11/25/2006: Venice from Atlanta, GA: "2 tablespoons of blackstrap molasses cured gray hair. ENERGY BOOST. It took several months, but my gray hair along my hairline has begun to turn brown! IT WORKS! It's also a great energy boost. I'm a 40 year old female who weighs 120, and I leap out of bed. No aches; no pain. I have no health complaints because I use the following on a daily basis: blackstrap molasses, apple cider vinegar, yerba mate tea, cayenne pepper, cod liver oil, and MUCH PRAYER." Replies [YEA] 05/26/2008: Robin from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia replies: "I think the idea of black strap molasses to avoid graying hair is a great idea. As I think of it, my father used to eat some molasses every day on his biscuits and he was into his sixties before the gray began to show a bit. When he developed diabetes, he was ordered to stop the molasses, and his hair really became quite white within a year. I have heard that a B vitamin deficiency can cause gray hair. You are right, it cost a packet to color your hair and I don't think the toxic chemicals in most commercial hair dyes are good for your health- quite the contrary. I will buy some molasses soon and see what happens. I only have a small amount of gray, but if molasses will help, then why not. Maybe it will help with other complaints as well. Thanks Earth Clinic angels!"
[YEA] 04/19/2006: Barbara from Clackamas, Oregon: "I guess I'm not taking enough. My question is for Patty in Florida or anyone with the answer. Do I need to take 3 TBS of each: blackstrap molasses, brewer's yeast and wheat germ all at once or can I divide it up; taking 1 TBS each 3 times a day?"
[YEA] 04/10/2006: Patty : "I do AT LEAST 3 TBS of each per day. Also, I do ABSOLUTELY NO REFINED SUGAR, FLOUR OR OTHER MAN-MADE JUNK! Eat a lot of fresh fruits and veggies, seafood, plain yogurt, organic eggs and flax seed oil. It takes time, and the hair that is already gray WILL NOT recolor. It must be cut off as new, colored hair replaces it. Hope this is helpful. GOOD LUCK!"
[YEA] 12/29/2005: Patty from Bartow, FL: "Using blackstrap molasses, along with brewer's yeast and wheat germ, completely reversed the graying that had took hold of my dark brown hair. You could actually see individual strands that were gray/white turning brown again! My comment is to Wanda and everyone else who wanted to know how much molasses, brewer's yeast and wheat germ to use to reverse gray hair." Replies 01/06/2009: Dwayne from London, England replies: "i have been using wholesome sweeteners unsulphered molasses brewers yeast tablets and wheat germ based on what one comment on the site says dont know if those r the write stuff to use especially the molasses if someone could please let me know"
[YEA] Guilda from New Zealand: "Have just finished reading an old book on molasses and it contains not only most minerals our body needs but also all Vit.B complex properties and it is B2 to stop graying hair. Extremely beneficial for good health."
[YEA] Bernie from SOUTHFIELD,MI: "For approx 20 years I have been taking Blackstrap Molasses - 1 Tablespoon daily in warm water. Sometimes if I need more energy I will take a second Tablespoon. How did I find out about Blackstrap Molasses? I purchased a book many years ago about the positives on the product. Today I am 55 years and do not take any medications from a doctor. The great reason I loved the book was about gray hair. My hair today has very little gray hair compared to other people my age. P. S. I do also take other natural products along with Blackstrap - so I would not state that Blackstrap is the only reason for good health." Replies [YEA] 03/24/2010: Jm from Keller, Tx replies: "Crazy. I had been taking a tablespoon of blackstrap molasses everyday for a month or so, then started getting a little lax. Today I plucked out a gray hair that was silver on the end but dark brown at the root. Will definitely have to start back up again and be vigilant about it."
HANGOVERS [YEA] 01/03/2007: JB from Minneapolis, MN: "If you take a tablespoon of Black Strap Molasses after a night of drinks and then one in the morning, the effects don't seem as bad. I'm thinking it's the potassium that is the helper. This molasses has a lot of potassium. My husband tried it and he agreed that he felt much better in the morning. I at first recommended the molasses to my mother who was iron low and had a hard time with iron pills. Her iron was normal a few weeks later at her scheduled doctor apptmt. I read the bottle and noticed the potassium percentage and decided to try it after a cocktail party and was amazed!"
HEADACHES [YEA] 12/23/2006: Chris from Colorado: "Well, it was that time of the month and I had the mother of all headaches. I tried apple cider vinegar in apple juice and it got a little better. 2 hours later I gave up and took a tablespoon of molasses (don't particularly like that stuff). 10 minutes later my headache was completely gone!"
[YEA] 11/09/2006: Karen from Union, KY: "This is the first time I've tried this for my monthly migraine, which I have had for several years. Nothing I tried seem to prevent this from happening, I could only medicate after it started. This is the first time I haven't had one after using the Molasses. I took a couple of spoonfuls in the morning and took it to work and used a couple of times during the day. I use an organic unsulphered brand. So glad I have found this, no more migraine this month. I really can't believe this, still waiting to see if one comes on." Replies 02/26/2009: Gretchen from Carlisle, pa replies: "This is great news, I am also a sufferer of the "Monthly Migraine" (mine comes after mine, when do you get yours?) I started taking BSM and ACV today, hopefully to help with fibroids...It's exciting to find out it might help my migraines, grey hair, and constipation too!"
HEART HEALTH [QUESTION] 05/04/2009: Anton from Durban, Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa: "I have recently suffered a myocardial infarction which resulted in cardiac arrest. I am a great believer in the healing and beneficial properties of crude molasses but when discussing the concept with dietitians they were concerned that the high sugar content would be detrimental to me in my case. Is this true? or can molasses have the wonder healing benefit to the heart muscle/ components and the vascular system in general?"
HEMOCHROMOTOSIS [QUESTION] 02/08/2009: Jehnet from Belgrade, MT: "So if you have high levels of iron bordering hemochromotosis, would there be a problem taking Black Strap Molases? I have acid reflux, asthma, COPD, and borderline diabetes." Replies 02/08/2009: Dianna from Austin, TX replies: "all i can tell you is that molasses made me sick. i have diabetes type 1 and also am hep C positive (with good liver enzyme readings) and was also borderline anemic (b12 not iron) when i was younger. molasses sounded wonderful to me. when i tried it (1 teaspoon) i loved the taste. luckily i didn't take more. i only took it 2 or 3 times and over the next few days my blood sugar skyrocketed. i felt dizzy had the runs and just felt horrible. finally i felt better and my blood sugar went down - but it took about a week. i stupidly decided that it must be a concidence and decided to try it again with an even smaller dose - 1/2 teaspoon. same thing happened. from what i read - iron is not good for a hep c positive person - and i may also have too much iron in my body. i'm not sure - but my skin always has a greenish tint to it (olive skin) and i having a similar feeling after taking some vitamins with iron. i would be careful if you try molasses - make sure you get organic unsulfured - and try a small dose and see how you feel. also i have heard that molasses has naturally occuring sulfites and this may have been what bothered me. oh - i must say that after taking only 1/2 teaspoon a couple of times - even though it made me sick - that when my period came a couple of weeks later - i had absolutely NO cramping and only a couple of clots at the end. i wish i could tolerate molasses :( hope you can! good luck djh" [WARNING!] 05/21/2009: Marcelle from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa replies: "WARNING Do not take Black Strap Molasses if you suffer from Haemochromotosis. This is a disease in which your iron levels are too high. Seeing that BSM is a huge source of iron you would then be seriously overloading."
HORSES [YEA] 05/27/2008: LuAnn from Newcastle, CA: "Black Strap molasses in water for horses! Amazing results." EC: What kind of results? Please share!
Replies 06/12/2008: Annette from Orwell, United States replies: "Black Strap Molasses I would like to know how it helps horses? I have a horse that may benefit from it." [YEA] 12/31/2008: Carolyn from Novato, Ca replies: "I use a smear of molassas on my horse's bits to get them to want to get bridled and it works great!! Most sweet feeds for horses (grain mixtures) contains molassas and there's a mix called A & M that we feed to fatten up skinny horses. It's ground up alfalfa and molasses and smells so good! Horses who are on sweet feeds or A & M usually look and feel great... sometimes too good and get frisky when you're riding them. I'm not aware of any specific ailments in horses that molasses fixes. I know that Apple Cider Vinegar helps keep stones from forming in their stomachs... (enteroliths). " [YEA] 08/28/2009: Jennifer from Sacramento, Ca replies: "Molasses is commonly used to help horses, cattle, pigs, etc. get used to new water. If you move to a new location and find that your animals aren't drinking the water because it tastes different, try adding a couple tablespoons of molasses to the water. It helps to mask the new tast of the water with someone sweet that they like. Particularly helpful if your horses are familiar with the smell and taste of molasses."
HOT FLASHES [YEA] 03/30/2010: Annie from Warkworth, New Zealand: "Hi I am looking after a man with Parkinsons and he has had problems with night sweats and also hot flashes during the day. A few years ago a lady told me Blackstrap Molasses helped with hot flashes so he tried it. He was amazed as it really worked and he and his wife are getting better sleeps. I have heard that it helps with alot of other illnesses also."
[YEA] 07/29/2008: Joyce from Atlanta, GA: "Purchased some blackstrap molasses 5 days ago for the first time and I cant believe after only taking 2 teaspoons for 3 days, I am no longer having hot flashes. I am shocked and will continue to take this for my usual low blood count. I feel so enegetic. I shared information with co-worker and picked her up a bottle too. Lets keep sharing this information so others will know the benefits of BSM. Joyce"
IMMUNE SYSTEM [YEA] 03/01/2007: Caroline from Nairobi, Kenya: "Hi people, This is another plus for blackstrup molasses!Theres been a flu virus going around over here and usually im one of the first poeple to get it.This time for the first time I escaped.Unbelievable.Please try it,try it,try it any cynic out there and decide for yourself!Carol"
INSOMNIA
[YEA] 09/29/2008: Joseph from Detroit, MI: "Starting using Blackstrap Molasses for Insomnia. Worked the very first night and then after. I take one-two tablespoons right before bedtime. I now get a full night sleep, no waking up in the middle of the night." [YEA] 12/13/2006: Krystal from Memphis, TN: "I have been anemic all my life. When I decided to change my eating habits and study herbalism, I came across a book that talked about how black strap molasses could shrink tumors and how high it was in iron. I use to have the ice cravings but no more. For the first time in my life I am not anemic. My mother was very surprised and has started using the product for herself. It works! I am living proof; if you're anemic, take 1 tablespoon each morning in a half cup of warm water and it will do the trick! Nature is a wonderful thing!"
[YEA] 12/03/2006: Laurie from Los Angeles, CA: "I use Plantation Unsulphered blackstrap molasses. It cured anemia and increased my iron levels. Prior to taking molasses again, I used otc iron pills with minimal visible results. I now take two TBS daily of the molasses, and my iron levels rose. Although the molasses tastes different, it's better to take molasses now then chemo later in life." Replies 11/30/2010: Rebecca from Yuba City, Ca replies: "I just bought a bottle of Plantation Unsulphered BSM which you mentioned in your post. I planned to cook with it, but I don't know how much to use in a recipe compared to white or brown sugar. Would you happen to know? Thanks!"
[WARNING!] 11/07/2006: Carol from Pocatello, Idaho: "I work as a Nurse Practitioner in a hematology clinic. Please that not all patients with anemia have it because of low iron stores. Too much iron can have significant medical side effects. Therefore, I would recommend having your iron blood levels checked prior to starting any replacement iron, molasses, or other herbal products." Replies 07/23/2008: RT from Santa Ana, CA replies: "Too much of anything is not good, moderation is the key. However you should not try and scare people on this topic. Molasses is nutritionally dense food, and considering what kind of junk food people are overdosing on you shouldn't you be more concerned about warning people about that? A dietitian." 09/24/2008: Nita-Rose from Cincinnati, Oh replies: "I was considering Molasses as I had a friend that used it successfully for her arthritis. I appreciate the warning on the iron as I recently had a blood test as part of a normal physical check-up, and although I am very healthy, I have been warned not to take iron supplements and to give blood 3 times a year due to my body storing the iron. Therefore, it is kind to warn people as not everyone might be aware of having this condition. I certainly wasn't until recently." 04/20/2010: Saliza from San Jose, Ca replies: "I have been anemic for over 10 years after my last pregnancy. My doctors (I have several within these 10 years) asked me to take OTC iron supplements once a day for life. One of them even called me to go for blood transfusion. Not good at taking direction, I only took the supplement only once in a while when I felt too tired. I also declined the advice for blood transfusion. I thought my iron supply should be enough with the food I eat. Until recently, my latest doctor suggested that may be, just may be I was anemic not because of iron but something else. She sent
me for a blood work, testing both the iron level and the genetic condition called "Thalassemia". Sure enough, my anemic condition is not because of iron, but because of Thalassemia. What is more - I am now overloaded with iron 3x the max amount. Luckily I did not religiously taking the supplement, otherwise my liver, heart and spleen would be severely damaged by now. Just thought to share my experience." 04/21/2010: Amanda from Hot Springs, Ar, Usa replies: "i just wanted to add that it is a disorder that affects people of mediterranean decent. my mother was Greek, and she, my sister and brother have it (the minor form), but like you said, IRON is very bad for these people." 04/22/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, replies: "Now I am confused, I am also of Mediterranean descent but although I never heard that we suffer more from anemia than anyone else (I would think that because we eat a lot of fish, meat and fresh vegetables we would suffer less from it....), I had a bit of anemia a long time ago and every time I was given iron. That was the main cure for anemia. Could you maybe explain further? Of course you shouldn't take iron if you don't need it, that goes without saying but if you are anemic as far as I know you lack iron." 04/22/2010: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa replies: "I just want to add that I was severely anemic throughout my childhood and had to go every couple of weeks for blood tests. It was a terrible experience especially for a child. Anyway, I was always taking iron supplements. So, why was there no real change? From my understanding, iron is very difficult for our bodies to integrate. Often, when women are pregnant they will be given iron supplements which then cause the woman constipation, along with all of her other issues that come with pregnancy! Well, I have an interesting story. When I was pregnant with my first son, I was also selling these amazing vitamins for a small company. Simultaneously, my midwife checked my blood to find that I was severely anemic. She warned me that it was so severe she would not be willing to deliver my baby if this was not changed immediately. Well, the company I was selling for had run a contest for sales and I won which included a luncheon with the founder who was also a biochemist. He was a very sweet man and I told him my predicament because at the time I was a committed vegetarian. He told me the answer was simple. To take liquid chlorophyll which I could obtain from the health food store. He explained (in a simplified manner, I'm sure) that chlorophyll is the "blood" of plants and helps facilitate the building of our blood. I immediately went and got that and added it every morning to my smoothie. The next visit to my midwife was astounding. She looked at me, her eyes wide and smiling and asked what I'd done. My blood was absolutely fine. When I told her she was thrilled and so was I! I have since given this advice to several people and the results have been the same. One was my husband's granny who at the time was well into her 80's and the drs. threatened to hospitalize her if they didn't see her red blood count go up. My mother-in-law at the time knew how much I studied alternative healing and asked my advice. She immediately put granny on chlorophyll and voila! the next visit the drs. were astounded and couldn't believe it. I asked my mother-in-law if she explained but she said she didn't feel comfortable doing that. Anyway, if you have issues with anemia, consider chlorophyll instead of iron. Much easier on the body... Lisa" 04/22/2010: Amanda from Hot Springs, Ar, Usa replies: "i had all four of my children at home as well, and with every pregnancy that would be an issue for me. with the first one i did take chlorophyll, but i don't for how long or anything; so i need to try again because i am always anemic-my whole life. i was a vegetarian for a few years, too; sometimes vegan. in my case, that was not good for me; and it
was when i was pregnant with my first child that i started to crave meat after being vegetarian for about 4 years, so i figured, i must need it.the interesting thing is that my daughter did a scan that i do not know how to explain, and i know i cannot put the name here, but the computer showed that she needed chlorophyll!" 04/22/2010: Amanda from Hot Springs, Ar, Usa replies: "just because you are from that background doesn't mean that is the type of anemia you have, i was just saying that this type of anemia is found in some people from those areas. also, anemia can be from different deficiencies; iron, b12, folic acid, copper, etc." 04/22/2010: Tamara from Fort Collins, Colorado replies: "To Francisca, who was confused about anemia: Anemia is not a condition that means you are low in iron. Anemia is a decreased amount of red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood. The hemoglobin carries oxygen from your lungs to your cells and if there is not enough hemoglobin, your cells do not receive enough oxygen. You will notice some people with anemia are really pale because the blood doesn't have enough oxygen. Iron is found in the hemoglobin, in fact, about 75 percent of the body's iron stores are contained in the hemoglobin. The type of anemia that most people probably hear about is called hypochromic microcytic anemia (meaning low color and small size of hemoglobin) of which the most common cause is iron deficiency, hence the recommendation from doctors to take iron supplements. It is said that about 20% of women of child bearing age are anemic due to this type of anemia from the loss of blood from menses. Finding out your iron ferritin levels is a start to see if iron supplementation would work for you, however, oftentimes iron supplements do not work and are potentially dangerous. There are many, many other types of anemia and causes, like sickle cell anemia or the mal-absorption of other nutrients like B12/folic acid/copper, or hypothyroidism (a reason many people have cold hands is because oxygen is not being carried there). A treatment plan for anemia first consists of finding where the anemia stems from and then assessing how to best correct it. For instance, is it low iron counts or is it because the iron is not being absorbed properly or not used efficiently? I absolutely stand behind food sources for iron rather than supplementation because of the whole package that a true, whole food presents. Nature has supplied us with little packages of nutrition that include many of the synthesizing minerals and vitamins that are needed to treat our bodies. For instance, for iron to be fully absorbed it needs the help of copper, B12, folic acid and vitamin C (probably among a few others). There are many sources in the plant food kingdom that have this potent combination, such as green leafy vegetables. Animal foods do, according to convention, have the most absorbability of iron, but in this day and age animal products come with so much baggage, that it wouldn't hurt to eat some more raw spinach or romaine lettuce anyway. My point is, anemia can be caused by things other than low iron counts, and even then, iron supplementation is not the only route to treat low iron (ugh and yuck). Lisa saw improvement with chlorophyll because it is nearly identical to hemoglobin as it is the blood of plants, and it shows that nature is here to help, without all of the binders and fillers that give us trouble like iron pills do. Always consult with your doctor or naturopath to find the true cause of your anemia and take control of your health with education and a little bit of diet intervention." 04/23/2010: Saliza from San Jose, Ca replies: "It would not hurt to have your doctors check for this condition if your anemic condition does not improve. Thalassemia affects both males and females. The condition causes the body to make fewer healthy red blood cells and less hemoglobin than normal. Hemoglobin is an iron-rich protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen to all parts of the body. It also carries carbon dioxide from the body to the lungs. People who have thalassemias can have mild or severe
anemia. This condition is caused by a lower than normal number of red blood cells or not enough hemoglobin in the red blood cells. It occurs most often among people of Italian, Greek, Middle Eastern, Asian, and African descent. It is good to know if you are a trait of Hemoglobin Alpha, Beta, or worse, so that you can find the right solution to your health problem. Check National Heart Lung and Blood Institutes' website for more details. Oakland, CA also has a center dedicated for children having this condition."
[YEA] 10/11/2006: Kati from Traverse City, MI: "I am extremely Anemic, especially during that time of month. I have tried Iron pills and Iron efficient foods such as spinach, but nothing really helped. So I looked in a natural cure book and I found out that pure black strap molasses has a high Iron proficiency so I mixed two heaping tablespoons of molasses in a glass with 16 oz of cold milk. I drank this concoction once or twice a day. It gave me so much energy and I didn't feel so sluggish during that time of month. Plus This molasses drink tastes so good (Much better than taking it straight), and just as effective. the sad part is pure black strap molasses is kind of expensive so I am not able to take it all the time. I would appreciate it if someone knows where I could get pure molasses for a cheap price to post it on this site, as I visit it frequently to find different cures." Replies 07/09/2010: Me from Eastern, Wa replies: "I'm not sure where you're shopping but blackstrap is not THAT expensive. At my local health food store for 16oz. Wholesome Sweeteners Blackstrap Molasses it's $5. 95 before tax. After is about $6. 42, which comes out to 20 cents per measured tablespoon. I don't see what's expensive about that. If you take 2 tablespoons a day you're good for 16 days worth. I see there is Oryana Natural Foods Market in your town, I don't see why they wouldn't have it, if not ask and they can order it. Look here on earthclinic and decide which one has the most potassium and iron and the whole lot. Btw, I did what you did and stirred it in with some milk, except I used RAW milk. Get away from pasteurized milk, it's baaaad! Check out http://realmilk.com/where3.html#mi to see where to buy it in your area, if not, ASK your health food store."
[YEA] 07/10/2006: Loreeli from Brodhead, WI: "I have been extremely anemic most of my life. When I was pregnant they gave me the iron pills and they will constipate you and are not even a good source of iron. I got on the House of herbs black strap molasses and it made such a difference. It has 70% iron and I haven't found any other with such high content. I lost a baby and they wanted me to have a blood transfusion, but I didn't want to so instead to build my blood back up fast, I used the black strap molasses. I was recently diagnosed with degenerative disc disease and rheumatoid arthritis and am more anemic with the disease and recently I have been so fatigued and in reading about my disease and realizing I was just extremely anemic, I got the molasses out and instantly, I felt better in my head and had more energy. I have now ran out of it and have not been able to find the House of Herbs kind anywhere. This is why I got on here and if anybody can tell me where to order it, I would sure appreciate it. It is a life saver and the difference between feeling good and not. Thank you!" Replies

Just for pure knowledge (because few drs ever mention it), it is fascinating. I stumbled upon it myself and have 2/3rds of the symptoms. The major symptom is unexplained anemia. [YEA] 07/04/2006: Janet from Hot springs, AR: "I take a tblsp of blackstrap in the morning and "chase it" with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, with the mother in it, with 3 tablespoons of warm water. In 1994, I was diagnosed with metatastic breast cancer at the age of 53. I had my femur replaced, took 10 radiation treatments and 6months of chemo. I have been on this regimen and KNOW that these things are from GOD made ingredients and, therefore, have kept me well. I have always been a borderline anemic. My blood counts are better than they have EVER been in my entire life. I believe if I had been doing these things for myself BEFORE I got cancer that I would NOT have had cancer in the first place." Replies 03/12/2009: Elaina from Seattle, WA replies: "Amen sista! I'm gonna try this. I'm snooping around this blog because I have fibroids and heavy bleeding. I don't know the exact age, but this totally makes sense. Somewhere in the old testament, God tells us not to separate (process our foods) the wholeness of the foods he made for us. And I know from my research about minerals, is anytime you eat processed foods where the ingredients are separated, those foods go "seeking" their separated co-factors or "buddies" which are the minerals that are no longer with them. So when you eat them, they PULL those minerals out of your body. So eating refined white flour, white rice, and white sugar will DEPLETE your body of nutrients. Since molasses is the stuff that's been separated, makes sense to me that putting it back in is what your body needs." 10/10/2009: Tuesday from Indianapolis, In replies: "I had very heavy periods so much so that I had to leave work. I am happy to report that after 3 weeks of this my iron levels and energy levels have steadily improved."
[YEA] 01/30/2006: Jan from TX: "One teaspoon daily dipped and dripping with Blackstrap Molasses (House of Herbs 70% iron content) totally eliminated my anemia, dizziness and fatigue. [YEA] Wanda from Memphis, TN: "I have tried the blackstrap molasses and it's wonderful. I'm anemic and have to take iron pills once a day. I haven't taken them in almost 3 weeks since I been using the blackstrap molasses. I'm full of energy and my fingernails are growing strong. I don't suffer with constipation anymore or irregular bowel movements."

ARRHYTHMIA [YEA] 06/07/2007: Renee from El Dorado, Kansas: "I too found Molasses an instant treatment for my heart problem. Every night my heart has a delayed beat (confirmed with overnight monitor) but doctor gave me no treatment beyond giving up caffiene. While that helps, it doesn't totally eliminate it and I it no caffiene is difficult for me. After the first day of 2 Tbls Molasses, I sleep through the night with no problems. And this is such a relief as it really is extremely scarey to awaken to no heart beat, over and over and over." ARTHRITIC PAIN
[YEA] 05/29/2008: Joyce from Chippewa Lake, Ohio: "Since I started taking 1 TBS of Blackstrap molasses each morning, I am no longer plagued with intense arthritis pain in my knee. Some times I feel a little pain once in bed for the night, and get up and take another tablespoon, and this pain subsides within 20 minutes, as if I had taken a pain pill. I'm a believer in it."
[YEA] 05/22/2008: Joyce from Chippewa Lake, Ohio: "I saw one comment from someone on blackstrap molasses for arthritis. I had been up every night in pain, particularly in one knee. The first day I ate 1 Tbs. of blackstrap molasses, and the pain was completely gone. I take it every day. If I go to bed and have a little pain in my knee, instead of pain medicine, I have another Tbs. of the molasses, and the pain subsides in 20 minutes. My uncle was a chiropractor who was into holistic medicine, and use to tell us that there are many benefits of Blackstrap molasses."

BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES IN CAPSULES [YEA] 03/30/2010: Bridget from Citrus Heights, Ca: "I tried every BSM recipe and found that I still can't stand the taste, but I really wanted to try it for the benefits. I had a bag of empty gelatin capsules that I bought at the health food store(you can get gelatin caps or vege caps). I just filled them up with a dropper. It's a little gooey and it takes a steady hand but after 2 days I'm an expert. I'm starting with 6 a day and if it helps me I'll take more. It is kind of a hassle but it beats tasting it!"
BLOOD COUNT INCREASE [YEA] 11/18/2009: Jeanette from Ripley, Ms, USA: "For the past several months, my mother has had to have 1 to 2 units of blood every week. She started eating blackstrap molasses and has not had to have any blood in the last 18 days. She has her blood count checked every Monday and Thursday. Since she has started eating the molasses, her blood count has gone up each time she has been tested. My question is "Does the molasses thicken her blood?" Because if it does, her chance of having a stroke is going up. By the way, there is nothing wrong with her blood. She is just losing blood through her bowels."

I am also fascinated with everyones experiences, and suggestions. Thank-you"
CANCER [YEA] 03/11/2009: Geraldine from Fort Lauderdale, Florida: "Yes, the exact measurments are MOST important, and I think this is why some people reporting to you of their problem with blackstrap molasses is that they use too much molasses and too little water. Blackstrap Molasses has CURED many cases of cancer, some of the "incurable" terminal cases. In the book by Cyril Scott, "Crude Black Molasses" many cases of curing cancer are reported. All followed the exact manner of taking the molasses which is not recommended for anyone with diabetes. The method for curing cancer is one teaspoonful in a cup of hot water: then cold water should be added "so as to make two-thirds of a cupful." This to be taken at one's convenience at any time; persons with deicate stomachs should take a smaller dose of molasses more often throughout the day." For severe cases such as for cancerous growth, molasses should be taken last thing at night and on rising as well as during the day." Do not drink it too hot, and drink it lesisurely not in big gulps. It is more easily assimilated in hot water; (bladder troubles have occurred simply after drinking drafts of cold water when one is overheated.) As reported, even terminal cases after surgery for cancer have been cured by this method of taking blackstrap molasses ( one teaspoon bsm, mixed with 1 cup hot water, then adding cold water making 2/3 a cup, drinking leisurely many times a day.)" Replies 03/12/2009: Gean from Salina, KS replies: "Please clarify the measurements. Did you mean add 1 tsp. molasses to 1/2 cup hot water, then add cold water to make 2/3 cup? Thank you." 09/01/2009: Harriet from Federal Way, Wa replies: "I, too, would like clarification on the measurements. If it is very important to use exact measurements what was stated by Geraldine is inexact. One cannot have 1 cup of something and at more of something else to equal less than the original amount. Please clarify!" 09/01/2009: Gean from Salina, Ks replies: "I have wondered what these measurements mean, and looking at it again it seems to mean the following: Put a little hot water in a cup (to easier dissolve the molasses), mix in one teaspoon black strap molasses, then add enough cold water to make 2/3 cup. Drink several of these per day, leisurely, not gulped down. This seems to make sense to me, in case the original writer of the post does not respond."
[YEA] Glen from St. Mary\'s Newfoundland: "A friend of mine who's dog was riddled with cancerous tumors gave him black strap molasses each day for a month. she took him back to the Veterinarian and
the cancer and tumor were gone! Her mother, who was a medicine woman in the hills of West Virginia suggested she do this as the ancient egyptians used the remedy for consumption (cancer)." Replies 01/12/2009: JC from San Antonio, Texas replies: "First I am not a doctor or medically trained professional but this info is from personal experiences. I have also heard success stories from other people and a few doctors that have had patients tell them they have done the same thing. We have a family friend that had prostate cancer and was told by his doctor that if he didnt begin aggresive chemo treatment immediately he would only have 3-6 months to live. He refused becuase he didnt want to endure this torture and began to seek new treatments. He began drinking organic barley green grass 3 times a day, ate less red meat and ate more veggies. A few weeks later he went to the doctor again and the doctor was amazed at the result and told him I dont know what you are doing but I want you to keep it up because it seems to be helping you. This was almost 2 years ago and he is doing extremely well. This has also worked to help shrink fibroids. Barley green is known for removing harmfull toxins from your body. You may want to drink Organic Barley Green Grass powedered/granules Not In Pill Form. You can mix it with water or apple juice but nothing acidic (no orange or lemon juice), nothing with caffeine." 02/26/2009: Mark from Las Vegas, NV replies: "The best and most proven cure for cancer is the Budwig Diet. CARPAL TUNNEL [YEA] 02/24/2007: Claire from London, UK: "This is g8 stuff .I had a big problem with carpal syndrome some nights i could not sleep cause of the pain. Searched on the internet for any ideas came across this site and read reviews. Next day brought some BSM (Black Strap Molasses). Took a tablespoon before i ate
every morning and another before i slept. After a few days the pain in my arm was not so severe. Within a month the pain disappeared. Also my husband noticed that i had lost weight. Maybe this was due to taking bsm (black strap molasses) . i continued to take it and in 6 months i have lost 3 stone. I think the bsm stopped my craving for sugar and also i didn't feel hungry. So overall, a wonderful medicine with loads of vitamins and minerals. recommend it to anyone.feel g8, hair is shiny. nails strong and skin glowing. This would be g8 for someone who is pregnant as it has calcium and iron in it."
[YEA] 11/29/2005: Kim from Blessing, TX: "My father-in-law's t and hands were hurting so bad the doctor performed carpal tunnel surgery on one hand, but the pain and swelling was still there. For about 6-8 months he was unable to do anything, he couldn't sleep, and she helped him do everything. His t pain was horrible. Then one night my mother-in-law was making him biscuits with molasses and when he woke up he felt completely full of energy it was amazing. He got outside and did he chores with no effort at all. She thinks it was the iron he needed in his body, but it sure did work. He is back to his normal self."
CIRCULATION [YEA] 03/16/2008: Norman L. from Abbotsford, BC: "I had serious swelling of ankles ,feet & legs. And all doctors could suggest is poor ciculation and one way valves in leg not working properly and would have to wear pressure socks for the rest of my life but I was not willing for this and kept earching and tryinng all sorts of natural things but when finally I went back to black strap molasses which I used to take for nose bleeding & cured that and after some time of use I ran out of it & forgot to replace it and got swlling problems but never connected it to molasses but after 2 yrs for some reason tried molasses again and after some time I noticed something , less swelling to happen and gradually dissapearednd not even swelled during the day anymore and so must be the molasses that played a part in circulation for me in my legs and so will continue taking it for this is a much better cure than wearing pressure socks whch did not go to fix the problem anyways. Thank You, Norm from Abbotsford BC" Replies [YEA] 02/12/2009: Donna Hyde from Lincoln, NE replies: "i had swollen ankles also, i had red going up both my legs. i am not a person who likes the Doc. i believe in what God has put on this earth for us to use. i started 1 tab.spoon black strap, with 2 tab.spoons Braggs apple citer vinegar, with 8 oz. of warm water. my swelling went away, and so did the redness." 09/09/2010: Ellianama from Smyrna, Ga replies: "Thank you for this "recipe. " My husband gets bad swelling in his ankles and by the end of the day, his feet hurt from the swelling. He also gets a lot of redness/purplish color in one of his feet from bad circulation. I am going to have him try this and see if it helps. I think the bad circulation is from having many varicose veins removed from his legs several years ago."
[YEA] Maureen from Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada: "Thank you Norman L. from Abbotsford, BC for taking the time to write about the benefits blackstrap molasses has had for you. I have NEVER heard of anything that helps swollen ankles and your e-mail has given me hope. I have just started using it for other
reasons and now hope I get the same results you got. I must say I try so many things that I would not know what worked if something did work! I will on something that I discovered last week. I used the remainder of blackstrap molasses I have had for years and bought new organic unsulfured blackstrap molassas last week. There was some that I could not get out of the bottle so rather than waste it I decided to add shampoo and water to the bottle and wash my hair with it to see if it would help my gray hair. Well it did not, no surprise there, but it did clean my scalp (from itch) about 90% for most of the day. It worked just as good as apple cider vinegar does for me without the smell. 'Thank you Earth Clinic for a fantastic site and also to Ted and Bill for your valuable input. Maureen" Replies 04/01/2010: John from Cincinnati, Ohio replies: "Maureen - Just to let you know, I've had success with having my gray hair turn back using blackstrap molasses, but it's how you use it that matters. When I read your email it sounded to me as though you applied it topically to wash your hair. That's not going to do it for you if you want to bring back your color. You need to be taking a tablespoon or two (it can be mixed into food or drink) a day religiously over months to get the desired effect. The hair actually will grow out of your head darker and it takes a while to notice it working because hair grows so slowly and the ends of your hair will still be gray as the BSM doesn't affect hair that's already grown out. I've been taking a spoonful in a glass of warm water with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and have just started upping my consumption to two times a day. I've been doing this for about two months and have noticed a definite darkening of hair growing out and others see the difference, too. It's a work in progress, as they say, but so far so good. I've heard you need to continue for 3-6 months for optimum effect and after that I'd presume you'd need to keep up the regimen to prevent the hair going back to gray. It may be that this is only a partly successful treatment, but it's real color, not something out of a bottle. I'm also guessing that results vary from person to person. I hope this helps you get a better sense of how this works and wish you good luck should you decide to give it a try." 04/05/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, replies: "Hi John and Maureen, I am trying molasses as well. I am 52, dark hair going grey which I have dyed for years. As I don't want all the chemicals in my hair and scalp I am giving this a try. I will keep you posted...... I hope it works because I look much younger and it is a bit weird to have grey hair." [YEA] 07/06/2011: Susan from Humboldt, Tn replies: "water with fresh lemon juice every morning will help with your ankles swelling. before anything else.... pure black strap molasses? If not where do you find that kind? Mine has Iron & Sodium & Potassium in it but also 14grams of sugar per Tablespoon. Also I am having trouble drinking this stuff. It is nasty to me, its too sweet. It taste like Honey. Is there a better way of eating or drinking this stuff. I am desperate for some relief without medications! I love this Site!"
EC: Molasses is the first or second boiling of cane sugar syrup while blackstrap molasses is the third boiling of the syrup. 07/24/2009: Fyreseer from Madison, AL replies: "PAMM - Dark Molasses is NOT the same as blackstrap. However, it still has lots of sugar, so it's going to seem sweet. I had a hard time with the taste in the beginning, too - but mixing it in with milk (it dissolves absurdly easily, even in cold milk) has been the best suggestion I've seen. Check your local health food stores for the blackstrap!"
[YEA] 10/30/2007: Fred G from Charlotte, NC: "My father is 87 and suffers from Parkinsons. He started having severe constipation problems as a result of intestinal muscles just not working. The doctors prescribed packets of chemical laxatives which marginally worked. He had to keep increasing these packets to a max of 7 packets. The expense was huge with many side-effects. On a follow up exam he asked if there was any alternative to help with the expense. The doctor recommended that he try black strap molasses. He incorporated 2 tablespoons a day and immediately was able to reduce the laxatives. Within 2 weeks and since he takes 0 laxatives and just the two tablespoons of Black Strap. He feels so much better and of course his mental state has improved greatly due to the relief that he nows has. He is not constipated at all and is just doing great. On that recommedation my elderly aunt, who has had constipation problems for years, tried the same remedy and had similar results. the doctor said he heard about this cure from his grandmother and figured it was worth a try." Replies 01/06/2009: Doris from Orange County, CA USA replies: "Don't take laxatives to cure constipation. Laxatives cause bowels to expel by irritating intestines. If stools are hardened, expelling is VERY painful. Instead, use stool softener, for example blackstrap molasses, or another great remedy is a generous tblspn mineral oil by mouth (available in small plastic bottle at any grocery without rx, no need to buy expensive vitamin form). Mineral oil is odorless tasteless colorless and natural. It softens stools, so they can't help but expel and expels totally comfortably and painless, so keep bathroom nearby as it will not disappoint. Blackstrap molasses tastes better even alone, than mixing mineral oil or flavored cod liver oil in oatmeal or beverage like orange juice or milkshake or fruit smoothie." 07/04/2010: Jewelofthesky from Baton Rouge, Louisiana replies: "Be careful taking mineral oil for constipation. It should not be used long term because it blocks the proper absorption of minerals. Google it and see. I was giving it to my cat for constipation on my vets advice, after several weeks she just didnt seem right, then I read about it on the internet and stopped giving it to her, and included cooked veggies with her food and she got better. I just don't think our intestinal tract was meant to process mineral oil." 07/07/2010: Georgia from Dallas, Texas replies: "Mineral oil is the left-over part after they refine gasoline. Comes from crude oil, and is very occlusive. NOT good for you at all! "
[YEA] 10/11/2007: Karen from Kingsland, Georgia: "I have been taking the blackstrap molasses for two weeks now. I have super energy now with in days of using it. i,ve also been having regular bowel movements daily. don't want to stop taking this am sold out."
[YEA] 02/27/2007: Vickie from Ontario, Canada: "I started taking molasses; 1 tbsp in warm water in the morning and again in the evening; a few minutes before meals and I think it's cured my constipation. I stumbled upon this site when I was researching ACV. I also advised my friend to take it because she's been anemic all her life and she too is having free bowels. We only started taking it 5-6 days ago but I'll keep you all updated on her anemic condition and on my fibroids. Please us in your prayers. Thx. P.S. It's hard to do but it really makes a difference! Then, a healthy diet and state of mind and you will see ..! Of course you should follow your MD's recommendations. And you should consult before practicing Tai Chi-Qi kung or any other physical exercise. Please, try to avoid junk food! Also refined sugar, salt, cereals or grains. Have a checkup the 21st of june let you know what they said and how molasses did to prepare me for the checkup also potassium was low use to take potassium pills let you know what happened at the doctor. Peace namaste." Replies [SIDE EFFECTS] 03/03/2009: Cindy from Monroe, WI replies: "I have been reading all these testimonies and I just don't have the same experiences as you guys. I didn't have a problem with constipation before I took bsm but it did give me terrible stomach aches. I mixed 1 tablespoon of bsm in a small 4oz glass of 100% grape juice and it made me irregular. I had to quit drinking this because of my stomach aches. Has anyone else had this problem." 03/04/2009: Suzy from Bristol, England replies: "in reply to Cindy from Monroe, Cindy... Im sorry youve not benefited from the BSM but perhaps try it with a nice large glass of hot or cold milk or soya milk, not grape juice. This seems to be the way to go." [SIDE EFFECTS] 03/20/2009: David Aames from New York, NY replies: "I'm in the same boat as Cindy from Monroe, WI. I don't know why but ever since I started taking BSM (1 Tablespoon in the morning) it seems to be having the exact opposite influence on me than what it's stated to help with. This is my 7th day taking it. I've been taking ACV (1 tblsp. 3x a day with a cup of water) for 3 weeks now and DE (Diatomaceous
Earth)for 2 weeks and things seem to be going pretty well until I added the BSM. I've suffered from constipation, bloating, anxiety, heart palpitations and so on :( It's such an awful feeling to be constipated and bloated...yuck! So while I was on just the ACV and DE its helped a lot. I don't really get bloated and when I been going to the bathroom 1-3 x a day. And when I went to the bathroom I would feel lighter and emptied out for the most part. Now ever since I've incorporated the BSM into my routine it hasn't had the same effect on me as it has on most people here and I would like to keep taking it because of all the health benefits it seems to have. By taking this I thought I would be going to the bathroom more and releasing like crazy. Unfortnately that hasn't happenned. I still do go to the bathroom at least 2x a day but it just doesn't feel the same. It feels like I have to struggle more kind of and when I do release it's not as much as before when I wasn't taking it. I don't feel as light after going to the bathroom...kind of still a little full and slightly bloated. It also seems to have made my heart palpitations more noticeable and I feel this throughout the day from just taking the BSM in the morning. So I think the BSM has given me more or less some anxiety, constipation & heart palpitations...WHATS UP WITH THAT!! :( I've taking the BSM a couple of ways and don't really care for any of them...I've taking it straight followed with some water, mixed it in a cup of cold water, put it in my cereal and have also poured it over my cooked oatmeal. I really don't want to stop taking the BSM(especially if it helps with stopping your hair go gray...not that I really have that problem now but later on down the road..I'm in my early thirties) so if anyone can help with any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. Maybe I should put the 1 Tablsp. of BSm in some boiling/hot water maybe that would help some how...how I don't know but maybe it will. Or maybe I should take like 2 teaspoons in the morning and 1 teaspoon in the afternoon(3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon as far as I know). Thanks to whomever read this mess that I wrote and for any help :)" 05/28/2009: Elaine from Hartford, Wi replies: "Side effects- If someone is not getting the results they are looking for, we need to what is good for one is not for another all the time? Some need to take smaller doses, not as often, or in another form. We are all different and God created so many different foods and herbs to help us. Don't give up!" [SIDE EFFECTS] 06/19/2009: K. S. from Houston, TX, USA replies: "Adverse side effects: I've been taking 1 T BSM every morning for one week and, unfortunately, have suffered bad headaches and stomachaches since. It also happens that I was on my period and the clots were heavier than ever! I suppose BSM just doesn't work for everyone. Such a shame." 10/10/2009: Avis from Indianapolis, In replies: "Don't take black strap molasses on an empty stomach it will make your stomach hurt, rather use it after you have eaten or when you are eating." 10/10/2009: Akaavis from Indianapolis, In replies: "You might try an organic unsulfured form of black strap molasses. Many have said it makes a difference." 01/19/2012: David from Romford, Essex,uk replies: "Hi, Thought I would just mention, .... BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES... Is loaded with at least 5% IRON.... Iron in some people can cause constipation me for one..... GREAT SITE earth clinic rocks."
DEPRESSION [YEA] 08/07/2008: Lisa from Jerusalem, Israel: "I had tried a lot of things to beat depression, Including: St John wort and different traditional medications. Molasses worked - no side effects. It is just a healthy food to eat. I have about 1- 2 table spoons a day. TO make it easier to eat I made a made a molasses based taffy." Replies [YEA] 08/27/2010: Tasha from East Coast, Usa replies: "It seemed to work on my mood immediately, as in within 2 days. My anxiety went WAY down very quickly. Very pleased with this and absolutely sure its the BSM." [YEA] 07/26/2011: Becky from Denver, Co replies: "Molasses also helped my depression. 1 TB per day. I always try to "fix" my health problems with natural things. I have tried sooo many things through the years for different health concerns and most of the time I didn't notice any difference. I started the molasses and I believe I felt better the first day. I am happier, more positve, have more energy, I'm motivated to do things. I have hope once again." 02/07/2012: Rachel from Manchester, New Hampshire replies: "Ladies, is it possible your depression was due to low iron count? (Molasses is high in iron). Or low count of some other mineral in which molasses is high? Investigate this, since the answer may suggest other things that can help your depression."
DIARRHEA [YEA] 11/24/2007: Mary Lou from Harwich, MA: "When I was a little girl if I had an upset stomach my grandmother would mix up black strap molasses and a small amount of baking soda. She would wait for a while as it puffed up and then would give me a spoonful. It always worked , so I tried it recently and after 45 years it still does."

Replies [YEA] 09/12/2008: Amelia from Hattiesburg, Ms replies: "I read the email about the dogs being given the Blackstrap Molasses and how they are vibrant and doing fine, so I decided to give my pomeranian who is
suffering from arthritis some BSM on some cooked white rice. Well I'm glad I did and I am giving it to him and my other dogs over white rice every 2 days and boy do they have energy. My Pom has been jumping like he use to jump before the arthritis pain. I have a miniture chihuahua and 2 American Stafford Shireterriers and they all seem more vibrant and happy. I myself take BSM and it has worked wonders for me. My anemia is over, my tiredness is gone, I feel so much better since reading this BSM Info on this site. ENERGY [BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 01/13/2010: Nataly from London, UK: "black strap molasses and excess body hair I have been taking bsm for a few months and found it wonderful, look great (or better!) and more energy but have noticed more hair growing on legs and arms... this is quite worrying what should I do a bout it? I could try cutting it down to a trace of a tsp a day and hope that it will still have the effects or twice a week any comments welcome regards"
[YEA] 06/17/2008: Laura from Plainfield, IL: "Hi! This is a great website. I just tried the ACV yesterday and noticed an increase in my energy. I'm interested in trying the BSM for constipation. I bought some molasses, but it doesn't say "black strap" on it. Does it have to be black strap molasses, or is all molasses considered black strap molasses? Thanks, and God bless." EC: Regular molasses is the first or second boiling of cane sugar syrup, while blackstrap is the third boiling of the syrup. Iron levels are said to increase 5% in the 3rd boiling.
[YEA] 06/04/2008: Judy from Saint Cloud, MN: "I have been taking a teaspoon of blackstrap molasses every a.m. for the last two plus months. my energy level has increased by leaps and bounds. as far as the gray hair goes ??? I haven't really noticed a huge change but maybe with time it will show. I am a 55 year old female from MN. and have a positive with blackstrap molasses." Replies 06/05/2008: Bret from Phoenix, Arizona replies: "Black strap molasses. Read the label. Very high in potassium. Potassium is never stored in our bodies. We lose it when urinating, diarhea, perspiration, and cell death. Potassium enters the cell quite readily and raises the ph. Higher ph then increases the perfusion of oxygen accross the cell membrane. Also, potassium aids in nerve transmission and strengthens contractility in heart muscle if potassium is low raising it is helpful. Also, Organic molasses has iron, iron increase hemoglobin production. This also means improved oxygen utilization. So, Molasses may indeed aid with energy, cognition, concentration, and endurance. Hope this helps."
[YEA] 12/15/2006: Martha from Phoenix, AZ: "I have diabetes and have been taking blackstrap molasses since Dec 7. It is too soon to say that it has affected by sugar levels., I think it has. What it has done is provided me with so much more energy, I am so grateful to again have energy to do things that I like and even don't like. I was so tired I didn't even wash my dishes on a daily basis, I wash them, I garden, I don't take long daytime naps. My sugar cravings have been reduced, I recommend everyone take some, even just a little a day"
[YEA] 11/17/2006: Karen from Lucedale, MS: "After reading the molasses cure, i realized that this is what has cured my sugar cravings and constipation after 25 yrs of constipation.wow. i have lost weight in the past 2 or 3 weeks. my sugar cravings have stopped. i use the bathroom after taking the syrup. i have also been taking enzymes since i have no gallbladder so i wasn't sure how i lost 7 0r 8 lbs. but now i know.and my fatigue is gone. i've been fighting fatigue for the past 4 yrs. i feel better now than i have in 4 yrs. FIBROIDS [YEA] 06/14/2009: Tina from Barcelona, Spain: "Thank you all for posting this news about unsulphured BSM. I've had fibroids growing inside me for over ten years, and now they are of multiple kinds too. My womb has grown to about 14 cm, which I was told by my gynecologist a week ago is the size of a 12week pregnancy. My periods had turned into debilitating 2-day avalanches filled with large clots, followed by about 3 days of mostly whitish stuff. I wake up in the morning sometimes with a large bulge on my stomach, a result of a full bladder being pressed out by an enlarged womb. Seeing as I am 39 and still
want to have a baby, a fertility doctor told me I should have a myomectomy right away. That is a very invasive surgery, and I will avoid it at all costs. A previous ob-gyn for years only told me we "would keep monitoring" the fibroids and never gave me any info on treating them with anything. Meanwhile the fibroids kept growing. "Let me know if/when you periods get heavy." They eventually did, I told her, and the answer was "we'll keep monitoring them." Not one doctor I've been to has made any connections between iron-deficiency and fibroids (or perhaps the potassium too has a role to play) or between fibers & carotenoids (found in beets and carrots) and fibroids (look this up online). What do these people go to med school for? Anyway, I was at once very skeptical and very hopeful when I read the major positive claims made on this site about UBSM, but I opt for natural remedies & solutions whenever possible. This was about 3 months ago now. To my great surprise and even greater joy, the results were immediate and excellent. I bought a bottle of unsulphured BSM at a health store (20% DV of iron, 15% of calcium, 10% of magnesium, 500 mg of potassium) on February 20, ONE day before my period. I have been taking 2 table spoons a day since then (though I confess some days I've forgotten the second spoon). Instead of the 2-day giant-clotridden horror of the previous year or so, I had a largely regular, 5-day period, with only a couple of very small clots. I felt less pain and had more energy. I was in utter disbelief at this very immediate result. I kept taking it to see if the same thing would happen the following month, and the answer is yes! Wow-thank god for mother nature and the people who know how it can benefit us--you all who have shared this wonderful remedy with me and many other women suffering from this problem--a painful problem that affects our work productivity as well as our fertility. (I feel I'm doing a commercial for this thing... that's what I felt about the other people who posted here when I first found this site, skeptical and cynical that I am... :-) ) Another apparent result, which I am in the midst of experiencing, is the return of my regular 28-day cycle. Recently, before the UBSM, my periods had started shrinking to 26 days. I am two days late, though there are signs of imminent arrival :-) and no, I am not pregnant, unless the Holy Ghost has paid a visit. My greatest hope of course is that the fibroids will also shrink, as some people here and in other sites have claimed has happened to them after they started taking UBSM. I will report back when I have my next ultrasound, or perhaps an MRI, which I read elsewhere are more accurate. I will also start loading up on those beets and carrots, both of which I love anyway. Incidentally, for those who ask how to take the molasses and complained about the taste: honestly, if you have a problem like this, you will take it straight in a spoon and say you loved it a thousand times. In any event, this is a sweet liquid--not your usual sweet, but rather a powerfully bittersweet taste, the kind our grandmothers, who probably didn't have fibroids, were used to. You can use it in your coffee, tea, and spread on toast (my three usual ways). You can put it on fruit as a dessert. You can put it in a smoothie. Think of it as your sugar from now on--that is, if you want to regulate your periods (and possibly, hopefully, all fingers crossed, shrink your fibroids). I wouldn't recommend the one spoon in a glass of water thing, especially if you don't like the taste of it--why prolong it? Sometimes I drink some water *after* taking my spoonful--that way you wash off the taste quickly. I do like the taste, actually, but of course anything you have every single day can get old quickly. As for the elimination of gray hair that some people claim also results from regular consumption of UBSM, I don't know if I am imagining things, but I have the impression it is helping with that too, though of course it is too soon to tell for sure. It is definitely not my main goal or concern, but I certainly won't mind it if it is indeed a side-effect!
I hope to report good news on the fibroids in due course. THANK YOU ALL again for posting this information--I wish I had looked up natural cures for fibroids sooner! Good luck to everyone." Replies 07/20/2009: Alicia from Madrid, Spain replies: "Hello Earth Clinic! Hello Tina! Where could I get Black Strap Molasses in Madrid or Where in Spain? Thank you very much." 02/13/2010: Stayhealthy from Montgomery, Tx replies: "I wanted to thank Tina (Barcelona,Spain) for posting her experience. I'm so relieved that someone else out there has found a remedy for a problem that I recently began experiencing. Tina, Thank you so much! I will try the BSM and will return with my experience with this. Meanwhile, blessings to all." 10/29/2010: Christina from Ann Arbor, Mi replies: "Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with fibroids several years ago. I had a robotic myomectomy, which took care of the large one (about 7cm). I had a very small one, but was told that it was slow-growing, so I didn't worry. Well, fast-foward to 2010. In March, I discovered that my fibroid was about 9cm. This month, I began having so much trouble w/ urination frequency, pain and bloating that I went for an MRI, and it was discovered that I had three fibroids, the largest of which was 10cm. Two weeks later, it had grown to 12.5cm. I signed up for a study of mri-guided ultrasound ablation because I just couldn't take the symptoms anymore. It was 30-40% successful, meaning that it killed that much of the fibroid. Unfortunately, I won't see if it's taken care of my symptoms for 3-6 months, and the fibroid will decrease in volume, but not much in size, so I'm stuck with a pot-belly, and that's pretty unsightly for me, as I weigh normally 125 lbs / 5'6". I was told that my only option was either embolization (which isn't guaranteed to take care of all the fibroids and which doesn't mean that more won't grow) or hysterectomy. I don't like those options. I'm trying to find anything that will keep me from going through these procedures. Here's my question: Has anyone on this site found that Blackstrap molasses has contributed in any way to shrinkage of their fibroids? I'm going to try it b/c it can't hurt (in small dosages), but I'd like to know if there's been any experience out there where the fibroids have shrunk. Thank you for your help." 10/30/2010: Lane from New York, Ny, Usa replies: "Christina, I can't speak directly to blackstrap molasses. But I can say that I was helped tremendously by acupuncture and herbs through a Chinese herbologist, who made the combinations himself. I had an embolization previously, in order to avoid surgery. But the embolization only helped temporarily, and not that much. I am fine now, and the fibroids are greatly reduced, though they once were huge. I looked 4 months pregnant. I was also taken to the emergency room four times in the years before the embolization due to low blood count and pain."
[YEA] 10/18/2008: Sherry from Longview, Washington: "Black Strap Molasses has really helped my heavy bleeding and clotting due to fibroids. I do not know how it works but it is working."
[YEA] 02/09/2008: Yul from P, South Africa: "(Normal) Molasses has made a HUGE difference in my bleeding from fibroids! (BUT BLACK STRAP Molasses actually extended my bleeding due to the sulphur acting as an anti-coagulant! So I'm really wondering if most ladies here are calling Molasses, BSM or Black Strap Molasses, when they're actually using the sweeter one??)
MY STORY: I've had 11-17 day long periods within a 28 day cycle for the past 5 years now due to having a fibroid. I've also been craving ice due to iron deficiency thorough summers and winters! 6 months ago I decided to drizzle Molasses (the normal sweeter one) into my ice-cubes, and what a hit!!! I just did it for the iron, but when I had my first and 2nd periods after that, I noticed that my bleeding was not as heavy, but thought it was just my imagination. The 3rd and 4th months my periods went from 11-17 days to only 6-7 days!!! Almost NO pain, and quite a lot less bleeding, especially after the first initial heavy days. Then I tried ADDING BLACK STRAP MOLASSES to the normal molasses (1:2). This time my bleeding (the 5th period since starting this Molasses journey) just would not stop!! It was SO heavy and SO painful, day 9 was as heavy and painful as day 2-3, and for the first time in years I had to take pain medication! The only thing I had changed was the Black Strap instead of just the normal Molasses. Then I ed that the lady at the health shop said that the difference between Black Strap and normal sweet Molasses, is that Black Strap contains SULPHUR. I then read up about sulphur on the internet, and saw that it acts like an ANTI-COAGULANT (which stops your body from stopping bleeding!!) and can cause strong bearing-down pains, which was exactly what I was experiencing! So I immediately stopped the Black Strap and my bleeding immediately slowed down and stopped within 2-3 days. This past month I've just been on the normal Molasses, and my 6th period has just ended in 6 days again!! I'm SO glad I've discovered this, and can feel my fibroid getting smaller! WARNING: Just make sure you don't overdose on Molasses!! It was very easy for me to do since I was already in the habit of eating ice all day, and found that by drizzling Molasses into my ice was so delicious that I would often prefer that over food! I was going through 1 BOTTLE (250ml) every 1-2 DAYS!!! Molasses is very high in iron, copper, etc. These nutrients in high doses can be bad for your liver/pancreas, etc, and yesterday I was extremely weak, shaky, yelow/green/nauseas, with a temperature, after having had diarhoea for 2 days before (could be a sign of iron overdose). I immediately stopped eating my Molasses ice and feel a lot better today. I think I'm first going to research and find out exactly how much of each nutrient is in Molasses, and how much is safe to take, so that I don't overdose and cause some serious dammage... (Scary!!) But over-all I'm feeling amazing (before yesterday!) and everyone is saying how much better and healthier I'm looking! I would like to know though, if most people here are calling 'normal' Molasses: Black Strap Molasses???" Replies 07/17/2008: Sherry from Longview, Washington replies: "To the author of My Story: Maybe the black strap molasses you were using wasn't unsulphered. Thank you for the tip about sulpher causing heavy bleeding. Unsulphered seems the way to go for women." 11/01/2008: Michele from Austin, USA replies: "I use only UNSULPHURED Blackstrap Molasses. I believe this is the best molasses."
[YEA] 12/05/2007: Leah from Emeryville, CA: "This stuff works! I have suffered badly from fibroids for about 3 years now. I have tried alot of remedies to no avail. I was scheduled to have a myomectomy. Then I came across this site and started taking the blackstrap molasses in September 2007. Three tablespoons a day every single day. It has a horrible taste, but it is SO worth it. Immediately, I noticed a tremendous change in my bleeding. I would almost hemorrorhage, but now it is almost a normal flow. I was absoutely amazed! I had been praying for a a natural remedy and I think I have found it. It has also helped tremendously with my anemia. Previously, I had been to the hospital 3 times because of fainting spells. I have also totally changed my diet and only eat natural foods now and I get foot reflexology treatments done once a month. Also, saying the Lord's Prayer 15 times daily is good too.(If you're religious or spiritual). I have made alot of progress, but I still get hard cramps, but my periods are about 70% better than before. Ladies, just try it and give it chance, because it truly works!!!!"
[YEA] 07/24/2007: Lauren from Raleigh, North Carolina: "Hello All...My cousin introduced me to this site and I read all the claims about BSM. I suffered from break through bleeding while on the PILL and in no time the bleeding was full blown. I was miserable and ed clots for two weeks straight. I had an ultra sound done and found out my fibroids came back. I went out and got the BSM and did the dosage recommended and in about a weeks time my cramps disappeared and I didn't feel like a whale. Thank you for these postings and insight on using something in our pantry."
[YEA] 07/19/2007: Tracy from Los Angeles, USA: "This is amazing! I started using black strap molasses two months ago after reading the comments on this site. I have had fibroid tumors for two and a half years. I got a scan a few weeks ago and I found out they have doubled in size since my last scan, they are now 3" in size. The main problem for me has being the long periods and the heavy bleeding. My periods would last up to 2 weeks and I would pretty much go into hibernation since I was so paranoid about bleeding profusely while out in public.. I started taking black strap molasses 1 tbls. per day for a whole month, I did see some slowing down of my period for the first month but it was still quite heavy. I then found out I was anemic, what a surprise that explained the long hours I sleep and the lack of energy, I immediately increased my dosage to 3 tbls. per day and my last period I only had 2 heavy days and 3 really light ones. Another area that seems to be affected by the tumors is my bladder, the tumors are pressing on my bladder so it seems that I have to run to the bathroom every five minutes to pee.. I will keep you up to speed on the tumors and my progress I am going to get a blood count again next month to see if there is any change there. My Doctor has recommended having the tumors removed and I told her to give me till the end of this year to see if the black strap molasses helps to shrink the tumors. I am so glad I found this site and all the helpful testimonials.. If you have any questions or comments me on my blog www.sisterposse.blogspot.com"
[YEA] 07/17/2007: Lyn from Saint Clair, Missouri: "Just an update for all. I started the Black Strap Molasses for my Fibroids on 6/25/07 today alittle less than 1 month later....I can tell for sure it is working ladies. Don't delay anymore, this really works. Praise GOD all the way!!!! I'm also taking Organic Apple Cider vinegar and can tell a huge difference in my t stiffiness. Good Luck!!"
[YEA] 03/21/2007: SHARON from LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA: "ONE NIGHT I WAS UP VERY LATE LOOKING ONLINE FOR HELP AND PRAYING TO GOD FOR A CURE.THAT'S WHEN I FOUND YOUR WEB SITE. I WANTED TO THANK EARTH CLINIC FOR YOUR SERVICE TO HELP AT NO COST . I ALSO WANT TO THANK SHARON FROM SONORA, CA. I HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS SHE , TRIED THE MOLASSES AND IT HELPED THE 1ST MONTH. NOW 5 MONTHS LATER I NO LONGER CRAVE ICE AND ALL THE FIBROIDS HAVE SHRUNK BUT ONE. MY FLOW OF BLOOD HAS STOPPED AND MY NEED TO URINATE ALL THE TIME HAS GONE AWAY. THANKS AGAIN, SHARON, FROM LA"
[YEA] 02/13/2007: Viktoria from Toronto, Ontario: "I'm looking for this book which apparently talks about molasses cures. Sharon from Sonora, California, for example mentioned it. Could anyone tell me the title and author? Thank you. I discovered this site just recently and I have been taking blackstrap molasses, I hope it cures my ailment. I'll keep you informed. I've decided to give myself about 6 months and see how I do with it. Please pray for me."
[YEA] 01/02/2007: Nuria from Madrid, Spain: "About a month ago I was diagnosed with a 6 cm Fibroid tumor in my uterus. At that point I was having very heavy periods that will last over a week with a lot of pain and ing very big blood clots. I also suffered from back pain due to the fibroid and had problems peeing as the fibroid was pressing my bladder. After I was diagnosed, I started to look for natural cures on the internet and I found your website and after reading about all the remedies I started to take molasses three times a day ( 1 tablespoon). The first thing I noticed was that my period lasted only four to five days and I have to say I was a little afraid because my blood flow was abnormally light and I did not have not even a blood clot. Also, when I started to have horrible pain I took 4 tablespoons on one go as another reader suggested and after about 40 minutes the pain totally disappeared!!! Today I went to the doctor and they did a ultrasound scan and said the fibroid is gone!!! I am totally amazed and I am not too sure what to think, I don`t know if it is gone for ever or what but I will keep molasses in my diet just in case. By the way, I did not use blackstrap molasses but the normal molasses which is sweeter. Also I started to eat algae (japanese Kombu-which is rich in iodine) as part of my diet, about once or twice a week, , so maybe this also played a part in the cure. Thank you very much for your website and I hope you can understand my english. Nuria " FIBROIDS [YEA] 02/04/2006: Sharon from Sonora, California: "I am 65 today but when I was in my mid 40's, I was told by my doctor that I needed a hysterectomy because of excessive bleeding and fibroid tumors. I also had been literally crunching ice cubes from the tray in the ice box for quite sometime. A wonder they
didn't break every tooth in my head plus it was driving everybody around me crazy. I had read this literature at some point about black strap molasses being able to get rid of fibroid tumors and I told my doctor I would let him know about having the hysterectomy and immediately started drinking 1 tablespoon black strap in a cup of water in the a.m. and another in the p.m. It wasn't long before I noticed I wasn't craving the ice cubes and the bleeding slowed to normal. When I went back to my doctor 6 months later the fibroid tumors (and there were many) had all but shrunk away. I continued drinking the molasses for a time after that and never had another problem in that area. That is the only thing I did. Damn expensive but health is worth more. But I suspect its fake because the bottle had this sticker taping on the small lid on the bottle as opposed to the regular proper plastic sealing that u have to break open the first time. I had expected the sealing to be the way it is on water bottle, which is turned to break the 2 plastic binds for opening bottle However this bottle did not have that seal. My question to all my earthclinic mates- IN THE US OR UK , where this brand is sold, is it properly sealed where the seal needs to be turned/rotated slightly to open bottle or does it comes with a sticker on an open lid only? Here is another easy protocol to add to your regimen, that may help your skin itches immensely: Use the borax powder in a hot tub of water to soak in for 30 to 60 minutes. Soak in it every day, or every othe day. Use the time to relax. Most people get the bathtub water comfortably hot. The hot water alone helps the fibromyalgia symptoms [soreness]. The borax in the water will kill the mites externally, and under the skin. It is a fungicide & a bacteria-cide. Some people report seeing black specs, etc. , floating in the bath tub, coming out of their skin. Also add epsom salts [magnesium sulphate] to the soak water, to get it's benefits also. It has a drawing power to it. It is used by sports teams for sore mucles and bruises. Bangkok Ted recommends using the borax externally for mites in this manner. You should feel much better for a couple of hours after soaking in this. You mite kill off the biotics crawling on your skin. possible amounts: borax: 4 tablesoons epsom salts: 1 quart cost: about 50 cents U.S. For the borax, about $2 U.S. Dollars for the epsom salts. [in the USA] Also; You may want to change the way you are using the vinegar internally. Do some Research on earhclinic.com on how to use it. Maybe switch to taking it 1 hour away from meals, instead of with meals. In general; taking it with meals is usually not recommended, because of it interfering with your food digestion. Mix it with about 6 ounces of water, adding 1/4 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate to it, to reduce the acidity of the vinegar, and to improve it's ability to alkalize the blood. Take this mixture about 1 hour away from meals. However, if taking it with meals seems to help you, then go ahead and continue taking it that way. Read more about the why & how of it by searching the earhclinic website for older messages. Bangkok Ted has explained this alkalizing method in great detail in past messages. good luck."

I would say that one should probably neither use BSM nor honey as they are both mostly sugar but I was interested in knowing why he advises BSM because he know an awful lot about Candida and cured his own. Let's hope he answers..... The thing is that there are so much contradicting information about what a Candida diet should look like.... It is very hard to know!" 10/04/2011: Jenny from Sydney, Australia replies: "Hi Francisca, I was just looking at adrenal fatigue and saw that Bill had used BSM when getting rid of candida along with other supplements. I have started on a number of things suggested on this website and am noticing a difference in energy but am very cautious and using low doses of everything. So far so good. Thanks for your comment. Having read that Bill used it I feel much more comfortable carrying on with BSM."

I stoped taking mollsases and the gas went away, its not for me or someone been telling lies about cures from mollasses, also how can it be true that mollsasses retores hair color because of tanin?, ther is also tanin in tea and alot of people drink tea in this world ( ans they still have grey hair)" Replies 10/18/2011: Jen from N/a, Tx, Usa replies: "I was wondering if we can get some clarification on your comment regarding the gray hair. I am not sure, but are you mixing melanin with tannin? The melanin in the body seems to benefit as a result from the molasses b/c of the copper; from what I was able to find the tannin does not directly influence this. Regarding your health, I am sorry it did not work out for you as you had hoped. Everyone does seem to react differently to certain foods. Maybe you should not be taking it on an empty stomach - many people on here suggest to eat before taking the molasses instead. As for the erection pain, that would be something to talk to your doctor about in case of another serious problem. Good luck on your path for good health!"

One should be careful with peanut butter because of the moulds, and careful with the microwave as well. I never use one and I dread to think that when I eat in a restaurant and other people's houses they do microwave the food. Do some research on the subject. Even standing near a microwave
while it is working can be a health hazard, the same for the food cooked or warmed up in one. I live in a rented house which has one but we never, ever use it. People are not suficently aware of the dangers and anyway, why would you think that something sold all over the world in all shops might be dangerous? The problem is exactly that.... This is big business and it won't be stopped any time soon, no matter what the dangers for your health are. But... Do your own research and reach your own conclusions! Then my daughter said that she's going to start on Blackstrap Molasses (BSM) and to buy her some. I did. the next morning I read about its power and ability to ward off cancerous tumors. I plan to see 58, 59, 60 etc. despite our age or gender, we all need to go back to basics, and as they say...let nature take it's course....I feel great now and hope to continue, and the best i give to all others." Replies 11/06/2011: Jan from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England replies: "I find one of the most effective ways to take crude BSM is to dissolve or melt 1 teaspoonful (7 gms) in half a cup of hot water and add enough cold water to make it no hotter than one can bear to put their finger in. If symptoms are severe take this on rising, before each meal and last thing at night. This will enable the body to easily absorb all
the minerals available in the molasses and to help overcome many ailments. (You may find that the dilution is similar to the biochem tissue salts, eg. 6x potency. ) Do not add refined white sugar, this is acid forming which is undesirable, and do not put it in tea as the tannin inhibits the absorption of iron. If this strength is not tolerated, eg gas, or a sensitive stomach the dose should be made weaker and taken more frequently through the day. I would suggest taking crude BSM for an absolute minimum of 8 weeks consecutive treatment. I have only been using it for two and feel more energetic. I am treating a problem with my nails and candida and rheumatism plus menopause...etc.etc.etc. Will keep you posted on improvement. Good luck to all of you who are using crude BSM and don't give up too soon. WARNING! NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOU SUFFER WITH DIABETES!"

02/23/2008: Dawn from Westlland, MI: "There seems to be some confusion about blackstrap molasses. It can be sulphured or unsulphured. The blackstrap designation does not have anything to do with whether it is sulphured or not. Blackstrap just means that it is from the third boiling which means it has more iron. They sulphur molasses if it is being made from young green sugar cane (sulphur is used as a preservataive). No sulphuring is needed if they use mature sugar cane, so it is labeled unsulphured. An example of unsulphured blackstrap molasses is Brer Rabbit molasses with the purple label. For complete molasses/suphur explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molasses"
GRAY HAIR 01/01/2012: Hubert from Phoenix, Az., United States: "I am going to try Black Strap Molasses (BSM) in an effort to eliminate some of my grey hair, but I am a novice as far as BSM is concerned, so would one of the BSM Veterans wade in and respond to my comments and questions. There were a few people who stated in their post that they were taking BSM in hopes of minimizing/eliminating their grey hair; they went on to explain they had to discontinue their regimen due to the high sugar content of BSM, which had a negative impact on them. I'm wondering if they were taking the unsulphered BSM. Is there is a difference between the unsulphered and plain BSM? Also I was wondering would it be ok to use BSM in hot green tea with lemon? Normally I use honey as a sweetner, because I believe it is a healthy alternative to sugar. But I would like to start my BSM regimen with green tea and lemon; providing the beneficial effects of the BSM won't be diminished."

I've been taking Plantation brand unsulfured BSM from the health food store but it does not say organic. Hard for me to imagine how this can make a difference. And if the health food store does not carry it, how am I supposed to find it? At the moment I shall not continue with this 'treatment'. I have been spending an unnecessary amount of money to color & highlight my hair to temporarily cover up the grays. I'm pleased to report that my hairs are gradually returning to their original brown color after regularly using the blackstrap molasses. I have been raving about the natural remedy to family and friends and hope that they will also experience the same benefits."

My husband tried it and he agreed that he felt
much better in the morning.
I have acid reflux, asthma, COPD, and borderline diabetes."
Replies 02/08/2009: Dianna from Austin, TX replies: "all i can tell you is that molasses made me sick. i have diabetes type 1 and also am hep C positive (with good liver enzyme readings) and was also borderline anemic (b12 not iron) when i was younger. molasses sounded wonderful to me. when i tried it (1 teaspoon) i loved the taste. luckily i didn't take more. i only took it 2 or 3 times and over the next few days my blood sugar skyrocketed. i felt dizzy had the runs and just felt horrible. finally i felt better and my blood sugar went down - but it took about a week. i stupidly decided that it must be a concidence and decided to try it again with an even smaller dose - 1/2 teaspoon. same thing happened. from what i read - iron is not good for a hep c positive person - and i may also have too much iron in my body. i'm not sure - but my skin always has a greenish tint to it (olive skin) and i having a similar feeling after taking some vitamins with iron. i would be careful if you try molasses - make sure you get organic unsulfured - and try a small dose and see how you feel. also i have heard that molasses has naturally occuring sulfites and this may have been what bothered me. oh - i must say that after taking only 1/2 teaspoon a couple of times - even though it made me sick - that when my period came a couple of weeks later - i had absolutely NO cramping and only a couple of clots at the end. i wish i could tolerate molasses :( hope you can! good luck djh" [WARNING!] 05/21/2009: Marcelle from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa replies: "WARNING Do not take Black Strap Molasses if you suffer from Haemochromotosis.
It's ground up alfalfa and
molasses and smells so good!
INSOMNIA [YEA] 09/29/2008: Joseph from Detroit, MI: "Starting using Blackstrap Molasses for Insomnia. Worked the very first night and then after. I take one-two tablespoons right before bedtime. I now get a full night sleep, no waking up in the middle of the night." INSOMNIA
[YEA] Francis from Detroit, MI: "It gave me the rest that I really needed. I was just recovering from a bad sinus infection. I was unable to sleep due to antihistamine D. Finally, I realized that Black Strap Molasses had loads of minerals. Therefore, I took 1 tablespoon in the morning and 1 tablespoon at night. I slept so well that night, the next day,I was almost late for work."
IRON CONTENT [YEA] 09/23/2009: Arn from Kenmore, Wa.: "Molasses and iron. Organic iron - good. Metallic iron - bad. Iron in its elemental state is what is used in most drugstore vitamins, and in most iron fortified cereals, flour etc. Read the label and it will say iron or reduced iron. Reduced means the iron filings are ground up very small. It is still like chewing on a nail, and elemental iron CAUSES pernicious anemia and a lot of other probs. It is toxic. Avoid iron fortified 'anything' like the plague. But molasses is the right stuff. All the minerals therein have been filtered and processed through the plant and are in organic form. Just think. They get rid of the fiber, most of the water and sugar, and what is left is concentrated organic minerals. You would pay a price for it if it were in capsules and a fancy bottle at the health food store. But guess what! It is delicious and cheap and available most everywhere. This is the best health bargain there is."
06/06/2009: Luis from Cali, Colombia: "Guys, please check out iron content in your blackstrap molasses. Iron could mean too much ferritin in blood, potentially dangerous for hearth health. For your best days." Replies 01/11/2012: Painbgone from Milford, De, United States replies: "Does anyone know how much iron IS TOO MUCH IRON in B& what is ferritin in your blood?"
LOW IRON COUNT [YEA] 01/22/2012: Cheryl from Abilene, Tx: "I tried to donate blood and could not - my blood was iron poor -it was at 7.2 - had to be 7.5 to donate. This was in June of 2011 - so I went on blackstrap molasses and gave blood in jan 2012 - now I am at 12.9 - wow Blackstrap Molasses works for me!! "
LUPUS
[WARNING!] 07/31/2007: Rhonda Nelson from Tallahassee, FL, USA: "I was just browsing through some of the information posted and wanted to add my "5 cents". I should mention, if you do use blackstrap molasses to "blacken your hair" be careful that you do not develop a vitamin B3 deficiency, WHICH IS known as pellagra, which apparently is important for the diet for those with Lupus. For the man who treated Lupus on a gluten free diet...take head, that this goes right back to a probable involvement of strep as this is the main bacteria that feeds on B-vitamins, as it is essential for them to live. This is especially true if you eat corn products because corn alone can induce pellagra if the corn has not been fortified (i.e.canned corn or corn on the cob, corn chips, or unfortunately for all its good intentions..organic corn producers that do not fortify their processed foods. If you have Lupus and you're going luten free and eating unfortified corn, you're inching closer to pellagra. This one instance where eating a wholesome food (corn) will give you disease (pellagra) if eaten in large quantities and it is not fortified." Replies 02/24/2009: Katerina from Athens, Greece replies: "You mean that Molasses induce a B3 deficiency? Is this true EC?" EC: Blackstrap Molasses is said to be a good source of B Vitamins, so we're not sure. Conflicting reports on the net re: molasses and lupus. We could not find anything about it causing a B3 deficiency. 02/28/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Haven't found anything on this yet, but if sorghum and corn are closely related it is possible, I guess. At least heavy corn consumption is listed is one of the causes of B3 deficiency. It seems that alcoholism is one of the major causes. Wonder if that is because a lot of booze is made from corn or because the alcoholic usually drinks too many of his calories instead of eating nutritious foods" 05/21/2009: Marcelle from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa replies: "I have just bought my first bottle of Black Strap Molasses and have been researching the comments. There was a concern that BSM will deplete Vit B3. I have had a good look at my Unsulphered BSM and it shows to contain 4mg Vit B3 (Niacin) so I am confident that it is actually a source of this vitamin."
MENSTRUAL ISSUES 10/31/2011: Sona from Ghaziabad, India: "Please let me know will it be ok if a person with a weak digestion can have BSM as I have a tendency for loose stool if I take any mineral rich diet... But at the same time heavy flow with bad cramps..... Still I want to try BSM.... What precautions to be taken?" Replies 10/31/2011: Mmsg from Somewhere, Europe replies: "Sona, start small, start with 1/2 teaspoon a day."
[YEA] 06/01/2010: Tuesday from Indianapolis, In: "Blackstrap Molasses is my life saver. I had extremely heavy periods that would last 15-18 days. I take 1 tablespoon of bsm daily and 2 when my period comes.
My periods have gone to 3-5 days. I have noticed a strong odor. anybody have any remedies for the odor??" Replies [YEA] 08/27/2010: Tasha from East Coast, Usa replies: "I too had very heavy periods. They were also irregular. I once went almost a year without one. I happened to be almost a month late when I started taking 1 tbsp of BSM daily. Within 3 days I started. Now that may be a coincidence, but this period was very different. Normally I have extremely painful, crippling cramps, heavy bleeding and periods that lasted 5-7 days. This time my cramps were 90% gone, flow 50% lighter and it only lasted 3 days! I havent had a period like that in a few years so I know its the BSM. Not only did it effectively solve my "female" problems but within 7 days it had slowed my hirsutism. Amazing. And while I havent been diagnosed with PCOS, Im pretty sure this is what I have. And my theory is that if it has corrected my symptoms, it must help with the condition too. HIGHLY recommended and I'm HIGHLY impressed." 09/22/2011: Hef from Toronto, Ontario, Canada replies: "Couple of days ago my wife was having very bad menstural cramps with bloating. I did some research and bought her Un-Sulfered BSM.... Today is 3rd day and there was a 80% reduction in her pain and cramp on the second day. Today she told me that there is no pain. I thought of adding this here as BSM really has worked.!! I have also started taking BSM in the morning and also started oil pulling (today is my second day) to address my continues fatigue issues. Surprisingly enough, I woke up quite alert in the morning, otherwise I would feel lethargic even after 8-9 hours of sleep and feel like going to bed again. But the last two day were really different I must day. I'll continue on both for next few weeks and post my udpate here."
12/21/2009: Jomarie from Kansas City, Mo: "On my last period I decided to try Blackstrap Molasses for my terrible cramps that put me down for atleast 1 day..I took 2 tbsp. in almond milk and was amazed how much it eased my cramps...enough that I was able to function that 1st day and not have to go to bed w/ the heating pad. Because of the BSM, I was able to cut way back on the Midol and Ibuprofen which are very hard on the stomach. Also the flow was not as heavy as well. I highly reccommend anyone to try BSM if you have the same menstrual related problems. I am so happy to have found this remedy." Replies 12/22/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hello JoMarie from Kansas City, Have you considered that those menstrual cramps that lay you low might be telling you that you need some magnesium? If so, you might want to bring your level up quicker by using the MgCl (magnesium chloride) transdermally (absorbed through the skin). See site for obtaining it on the transdermal magnesium page of EC." EC: Transdermal Magnesium Therapy page here: http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/transdermalmagnesium-therapy.html
[SIDE EFFECTS] 01/31/2009: Rebecca from Sydney, Australia: "I stopped menstruating 2 years ago (I'm 47; my mother stopped at 46), and was pretty sure that I had gone through menopause. However, six months ago I started taking blackstrap molasses, and one month began bleeding. I stopped the molasses and the menstruation stopped too (it was very light). Now I have begun the molasses, the menstruation very irregularly has begun again. I'm a bit worried why this is happening and whether it is normal. Anyone's informed would be appreciated. Thanks." Replies [YEA] 02/12/2009: Donna Hyde from Lincoln, NE replies: "i stopped my menstruation a year ago. i started black strap, and apple cider viniger 1 month ago because my ankles were swollen, and redness was going up my legs. the apple cider and black strap did get rid of my swollen legs. i started a light period after 1 year of not having one. i said ''well hello''. i came to the conclusion that my body was so depleted of minerals that my body quit bleeding because it had nothing to give. i guess it will quit when it is ready to quit, i am not worried about it. i feel better than i have felt in years. if black strap was doing something to hurt me, then i would be feeling sickly. i feel young again. i don't suffer hot flashes anymore, my bones don't hurt, i am finaly able to loose weight. i have lost 25 pounds since i started black strap almost 2 months ago.i take it with apple cider viniger, and warm water. Thank God for His wisdom of what is good for us" 11/17/2010: Lynette from Houston, Tx replies: "Donna, How much blackstrap molasses and Apple Cider Vinegar were you taking?"
[YEA] 12/07/2008: Saundra from Cleveland, OH: "I purchased Organic Molasses manufactured by Wholesome Sweeteners from The Food Co-op in Cleveland(on sale $3.98/31 oz. bottle). This version is unsulphured. I have only been taking it for one week, but the first day I used it was 2 days before the start of my menses. I noticed that the flow decreased in duration from 6 days to 4 days. I am 47 years old, do not have fibroids or any other complaint other than some gray hair and ocassional stiff knees. I am in general good health. I swallow two tablespoons in the mornings straight down. I will take note of the duration of my cycle next month as well. I am not expecting to see any changes in my hair color for at least 4 months. Will keep you posted. Thanks to all who have shared their input. Peace, health, abundance & wealth to all!"
[YEA] 11/12/2008: Nancy from Northern, IA: "At the end of August my menstrual cycle lasted 3 weeks and the flow was three times as heavyas normal. The Dr. said I had "huge" fibroids and an ovarian cyst on my right ovary. They said some of my options were a hysterectomy or trying birth control pills. I found earthclinic instead. Thanks to the advice on earthclinic, I decided to try the molasses trick. Our grocery store didn't carry the blackstrap--so I thought I'd wait until I got somewhere that did. After only 1 week off--I got my cycle again. On the 2nd day it was abnormally heavy again--I thought --shoot, I'll try the regular stuff, and bought the regular molasses-mild and unsulphered. I took 1 TBSP. Was it coincidence that it worked instantly? Was it conincidence that the cramping dissapeared? Was it conincidence that my next 2 cycles were right on schedule and back to normal? More importantly, was it coincidence that my follow up ultra-sound showed that the cyst had dissolved and the fibroids were now
classified as large-rather than huge? I don't know--but for $2.50 per month (the cost of the bottle and how long it lasted) I will definately continue with taking 1 TBSP per day coincidence or not!!" Replies 03/12/2009: Mia from Seattle, WA replies: "wow, thanks Nancy!"
[NAY] 08/26/2008: Adaku from London, United Kingdom: "re: excessive and prolonged peroids. I have been trying the black strap molasses for almost 2 weeks it made my period worse. i have fibroids and exceesive bleeding every month and its difficult cause im trying for a baby pleas help i have prolonged periods." Replies 11/01/2008: Satina from Waldport, Oregon replies: "Is your molasses the sulfured kind? That has been known to increase bleeding and cramps. Get the unsulfured, organic kind!" 11/02/2008: Susan from Northern, IL replies: "Adaku, besides making sure you have the right molasses, try to make sure your PH is alkaline. I had horrible, heavy cycles until I used ACV+Baking soda. Cycles got much better/shorter. Some people need the baking soda, some don't. You have to expirment. Also, make sure you to stay away from articifical ingredients in food (ex. aspartame, MSG, etc), drink good water (not tap water, etc), take a good food based multi a few days a week, etc. May also want to look at kelp for the iodine. No pops - get used to drinking water. If you've been on birth control,y ou may have to address hormone imbalances. Look at other symtpoms you may be having for commonalities. Not medical advice - just what I would do."
[YEA] 04/30/2008: Mary from New York, New York: "I was diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia and put on birth control pills recently. I'm a menopausal 50 year old and don't need or want to be taking hormones. I found your site with all the testimonials from women who shared my history of extremely heavy periods (I swear I lost 2 pints in one day) sleeping on towels, enduring anemic exhaustion, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, muscle fatigue, etc. I decided to try taking one tablespoon of BSM per day in a cup of warm water. IT WORKS! I've had two completely normal periods in a row and my doctor (who had been seeing me 2-3 times per month) scheduled my next appointment six months from now. I believe I'll be taking BMS for the rest of my looooong life. Thank you all."
[YEA] 04/25/2008: Diane from New Albany, Ohio: "I am 51 years old and for the past year I have been experiencing very heavy menstrual bleeding.February 29th I was taken to the hospital by ambulance due to how heavy the bleeding was. I was diagnosed with anemia and the ER doc did see something resembling a cauliflower growth on the cervix. I am going to be having pelvic ultrasound and probably other tests this week. During the lapse of time between that ER visit and this apppointment next week I have been out of state taking care of a sick parent and put off tests which I know is bad. I found this website when trying to figure out what I can do to get the bleeding under control until I this is diagnosed. I have been taking 1 tablespoon of unsulphured blackstrap molasses per day from the day my period ends until 10 days beofre another one is due to start. At that point 10 days before and during the period I take 1 tablespoon in the morning and 1 in the early evening. I take it straight and just drink lots of water after. I am pleased to report that the bleeding is probably half of what it was. I have had two realatively easy
periods now. The only down side I can report is that my stools are slightly loose and very black by the time I have doubled that dose for 10 days. I am assuming this is from the mineral content. My stools return to normal as soon as I go back down to 1 tablespoon. I would also like to add that long before my periods became so problematic that I had become housebound for the duration I had seen eraly symptoms that there is something wrong. Three years ago I started to have night sweats. Over a period of 3 years I lost 10 pounds without trying. My body composition changed dramatically from very muscular to flacid. I went to my physician who ran tests and found nothing to be wrong. In the years to follow I was going through a very difficult time in my marriage and the stress was unbelievable. I develped a tic in my eye, I started having anxiety attacks. I have had mysterious aches and pains all over and finally my periods became very heavy. I sought help from physicains 4 times over a period of 3 years and all 3 physicians thought I looked too good to be sick and ran just a few tests which did not show any problems. They concluded that it was due to the severe stress and suggested leaving the marraige and getting professional counseling. I know my body and my intuition was telling me there is something wrong but I ignored it probably because I wanted to believe the physicians were right. Now I hope this is not cancer and strictly due to either perimenopause or fibroids. I have periods every month right on schedule every 28 days."
[YEA] 03/24/2008: Sarah from Northern, NJ: "Unsulphed BSM for menstrual issues-YEA !!!! I can't find the words to say how thankful I am for this website & everyone that shared info on Unsulphered Black strap molasses for Menstrual issues. I've been on it for a whole month now, & it truly is a blessing for me. It's helped with the Pain & lightned it. I just used less than a tblspoon in warm-hot water daily. Again, Thanks you have no idea after many years of barely can't getting out of bed how much this has helped me."
[YEA] 03/21/2008: Valarie from Gulfport, Mississippi: "SINCE I HAVE BEEN TAKEN BLACKSTRAP MOLLASSES,IT HAVE MADE ME LOOK LIKE I AM SO SWOLLEN LOOKING,I LOOK LIKE I AM ON STERIODS OR SOMETHING. I THINK THAT I GOING TO STOP TAKING IT,ALTHOUGH IT HELP WITH MY MENASTRATION CYCLE MY CYCLE WAS ON FOR 3 WEEKS.NOW AFTER USING BLACK STRAP MOLLASSES,IT STAYS ON FOR 7 DAYS. I HAVING BEEN USING IT FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS."
[YEA] 02/22/2008: Gracie from Winter Beach, FL: "Three months ago, I did a google search for "Help with Heavy Periods with Severe Clotting". I was led to this site. My periods were so heavy and with one day of clotting that was severe, nothing could contain it. I was weak, faint, and frightened. My hair was falling out, my nails stopped growing, and I consumed ice constantly. I was diagnosed as dangerously anemic and put on iron pills. Yes, they helped with the pica and fatigue. Still, I had to find a solution short of surgery for my periods. After reading everything on this site, I decided to give it a try. I was optimistic yet skeptical.
What a blessing this has been. Three periods later and I cannot believe the difference. The massive clotting that confined me to bed has stopped. My periods now last five to six days rather than nine or ten. I would urge any woman with bleeding issues to at least give this a try for three months. Truly, for me, I feel it saved my life. I asked God for help and found this site. Thank you to all of you who shared your stories. It made all the difference."
[YEA] 02/05/2008: June from KC, KS: "I've been taking BSM (black strap molasses-Plantation brand from the health food store) for about a month now. Two and a half years ago I had my hormones tested and results showed I had too much testosterone, too much estrogen and not enough progesterone. (also low cortisol) I've had polycystic ovarian syndrome my whole life (I'm 37). After trying to heal my body under the guidance of a nutritionist/chiropractor following the S. P. diet books (just using the initials of the book name here) my hormone imbalanced grew even more out of control. I gained about 25-30 pounds (the chiro and books told me this is supposed to be "normal" as your body heals it's metabolism) and the result was increased bleeding that did not stop. So, for the past 2 1/2 years I've had to deal with heavy, lingering bleeding. Rx drugs are not for me, so I have been trying to solve this with natural remedies. I managed to lose the extra weight I gained following the SP diet, thank goodness. This helped lessen the bleeding. I lost more weight with diet/lots of exercise and ACV. The bleeding didn't completely stop, but more or less just lingered on and on. Still, it was a big improvement over what I had been suffering. Then I got my new job where I am sitting a lot, started eating lots of goodies over the holidays, and...no surprise...gained some weight back. As most of us know by now fat = estrogen. Too much estrogen with not enough progesterone to counteract it (due to lack of ovulation) means excess bleeding. And, I started bleeding heavier again. I was ready to pull my hair out and really disappointed in myself for gaining weight back after all my hard work and success. So, I came to EarthClinic and read about BSM. Once again, so many women said they had good results from it I could not ignore their advice. After taking BSM for about 2 weeks my bleeding STOPPED!!! No lingering, no spotting, nothing! I tried several ways of taking it...on my granola first, which was totally disgusting. Then I finally tried it mixed in warm water and drinking it like tea. It's actually very, very good this way. My recipe is 2 teaspoons mixed with about one cup warm water morning and night. After missing the night dosage for a while (during my bout with the flu) I noticed a little spotting returning. I don't know how BSM will affect me altogether, whether or not it will help me have a normal cycle, I just haven't taken it long enough. But I do know that the awful incessant bleeding has stopped and I am so relieved! Thanks everyone for your suggestions and . Without it I would never have tried BSM." Replies

[YEA] 01/22/2008: Heather H from Rockville , MD: "I started taking Blackstrap molasses each day in hope that I would find some relief for uterine fibroids and the havoc they wreak on my menstrual cycle. I found this site after the impressive turnaround my grandfather experienced after beginning his own blackstrap regimen. He suffers from Parkinson's disease and had terrible constipation issues (see Fred G from Charlotte's testimony on the site. Fred G is my uncle). Once on the site, I saw that blackstrap is recommended for so many diverse ailments and thought to give it a try. I have been through one full menstrual cycle and am thoroughly impressed. My decision was to take 1Tbs a day and to bump up to 2 Tbs during my cycle. I immediately noticed an increase in energy and a decrease of sugar and salt cravings throughout the day. My last menstrual cycle was far more manageable than I've experienced over the last several months – far less bleeding and a less dramatic decrease in energy. I am interested to see if results are cumulative. I'm convinced it is making a difference for me and eagerly share the tip with family and friends." Replies [YEA] 10/30/2007: Fred G from Charlotte, NC replies: "My father is 87 and suffers from Parkinsons. On that recommedation my elderly aunt, who has had constipation problems for years, tried the same remedy and had similar results. the doctor said he heard about this cure from his grandmother and figured it was worth a try."
[YEA] 01/06/2008: Anna from OK, US: "Hi, I just wanted to write to thank you for the information on Blackstrap molasses. I've had very painful periods ever since I can and have had to rely on powerful painkillers just so that I can get through the day. Without my painkillers I will be lying curled up in bed crying from the pain, it is so bad! After taking 1-2 tablespoons of BSM per day for 3 months, I am having my first "normal" period. Yes, there is still pain and cramping, but I believe this is closer to the normal levels. I am uncomfortable at times but not crying in bed so it is a definite improvement. It is also the first time in YEARS I didn't pop my pills! THANK YOU so much!"
[YEA] 12/28/2007: Daniela from Queens, NY: "BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES/HEAVY PERIODS/CLOTTING -- I AM BEYOND SPEECH - THE BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES WORKED!!!!!!!! LAST MONTH I LITERALLY NEEDED TO WALK AROUND WITH A MOP AND BUCKET WHEN I HAD MY PERIODS AND THIS MONTH MY PERIOD WAS LIGHTER --- AND ABSOLUTELY NOOOOOOOOOO CLOTS. IT'S A MIRACLE! I'VE ONLY BEEN TAKING
THE BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES FOR ONE MONTH (ONE TBSP DAILY IN MY COFFEE). I AM SO HAPPY THAT WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE!"
[YEA] 12/08/2007: Angel from San Francisco, California: "After having irregular periods for 3 months, and no diagnoses for it other than hormonal imbalance, I decided to look into what I could do to take my own health into my hands. I found information regarding BSM and decided I would give it a try. After 2 weeks, my constant spotting stopped. I began to feel energetic and started walking every day again. My mood has lifted. And everyone I know has asked me what skin cream I'm using, because my skin is visibly glowing! I'm also sleeping better. And I cannot deny that my sugar cravings have lessoned. Before I began my 3 tablespoon a day regimen of black strap molasses, I know my body was depleted of vitamins and minerals. I will be continuing with BSM in hopes that my health will improve along with other measures I intend to take!"
[YEA] 12/08/2007: Samantha from Reno, NV: "I tried using blackstrap molasses for a extremely heavy period with clots and severe cramps. I have been having the problem for over two years and have been to the doctor a few times to see what could be done about this problem. The doctor advised me to go on birth control pills which I did not want to do. I found this website and thought there is no way this could work but I'm going to try it. I started using the BSM about two weeks ago. I have definitely noticed with this period that it is lighter and I can't believe I'm hardly have any clots and no "flooding" this time. Also cramping is minimal this time. I'm going to keep up the treatment and I will let you all know my progress. I'm ecstatic! Thank You EC!"
[YEA] 10/17/2007: Maureen from Portland, ME: "I started taking the blackstrap molasses to slow down the white hair growth. I think that has helped to some degree. But, what I have really noticed is my menstrals....much more pleasant. Less painful and not so heavy. What a pleasant surprise. Usually my breasts hurt too...but not this time. I think I will be taking this forever. Now, if my little white hairs go away...well, this would be perfect!!"
[YEA] 09/01/2007: Diane from Dallas, TX: "Black Strap Molasses stopped my heavy and over-long periods. After only one month of using it. My doctor was suggesting a hysterectomy because I have fibroids and sometimes I was bleeding for an entire month. I have had several surgeries in the past and I don't want to ever be cut on again. I found your site using google. I didn't really think the black strap molasses would work, but I was ready to try almost anything to avoid a surgery. Someone else on this site suggested taking ibuprofen with the molasses. I started taking both daily. I have since stopped taking the ibuprofen but continued taking the molasses daily in the morning and at night before bed. After months of my periods lasting for weeks at a time I had a period end after only six days. I take it by tablespoon. I don't like the taste but I want to get it over with quickly. I see the doctor again in October for a check on my fibroids. The black strap molasses has not changed my gray hair, but I am so very pleased about the change in my period."
MENSTRUAL ISSUES [YEA] 07/08/2007: Trish from Kansas City, MO: "After reading some comments regarding Blackstrap Molasses and how it may help ease a menstral cycle, I decided to give it a shot. I have HORRID cramps, particularly near the ovaries, as well as terrible lower backpain, severe muscle cramps in my legs, and the worst fatigue. My periods are short, usually 3 days or less, but nightmare nonetheless. I bought some molasses on the second day of my last mensus and within five or ten minutes of taking my first tablespoon, I felt very relaxed. My stomach cramps didn't go away unfortunately, but the leg cramps disappeared and I was simply in a more relaxed state, mentally and physically. So I was better prepared emotionally to deal with the remaining physical pain. I also noticed that I bled considerably less and as many others have reported, the color was much lighter. By the third day I was barely 'spotting. I have found the best way for me to take the molasses is mixed in with a glass of warm vanilla almond milk. It almost completely covers the taste. I tried with warm cow's milk...it was tolerasble, but tasted much better with the almond milk. Also, I would love to leave my e-mail address for other people, but unfortunately I received a rude e-mail from someone, in regards to a testimony I left about hydrogen peroxide and how it has helped me, calling me a useless idiot. It made me very sad that people actually act this way. My opinion is that if it doesn't work for you, move on quietlty and look for something else. But don't insult people who are simply trying to share valuable information with others who are suffering." Replies 05/24/2008: Sagi from Hamilton, Canada replies: "Had painful menstrual cramps when I was 14/15 years old. The doctor put me on the B.C. pill to alleviate the cramps. Years later, my friend taught me about the importance of magnesium...how muscles need calcium to clench, and magnesium to relax. I started taking 1/4 oz. of magnesium in ionic liquid form, and no longer experienced the warning cramps prior to my period coming on. Wish my mother had known this when I was a teen! I am anxious to start on molasses, as I am looking for a more feasible source of magnesium. Currently believe I have fibroid tumors due to the excessive flow, as well as anemia. Thank you everyone for your testimonials!" 05/25/2008: Auroragirl from Nowhereville, PA replies: "If you have menstrual cramps, charley horses, eye twitches or any other kind of muscle cramps or just general aches and pains, try epsom salts baths. Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) is an excellent source of magnesium, much more bio-available and less expensive than supplements. You can soak in it in the tub, or make a spray from 4oz by weight of epsom salts dissolved in 32 fluid oz of distilled water. Put the epsom salt/water mix in a spray bottle and spray it on after your shower (rub it in like lotion all over). This is a home made version of "magnesium oil" (magnesium chloride), only made with epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) instead. Magnesium from epsom salts is very well absorbed throught the skin and doesn't loosen the bowels like oral magnesium supplements do. If you want to use magnesium chloride to make homemade "magnesium oil", get some unscented magnesium chloride bath salts and proceed as for "magnesium oil" made from epsom salts. Since I started using epsom salts, my skin is no longer dry...due, I think, to the sulfer content of epsom salts. If you feel up-tight, tense, anxious, nervous, crampy, etc., take an epsom salt soak. Exercise, and stress of all kinds, depleats magnesium, which is why an epsom salt soak after a work out or a stressful day is so good for you." 05/26/2008: Jacque from Dubuque, Iowa replies: "Anyone with menstral issues, anemia, and lots of other symptoms, please read up on PCOS, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. 1 in 10 women have it, but it's not spoken about. I should have been diagnosed at age 13 when I had surgery on my ovaries, but figured it out myself at age 50. Trouble conceiving, anxiety, the list is endless, read up on it, and talk to others and your medical provider. You'll feel like a whole new person if it is you in the description. Now I've had ACV for the last 4 wks or so, and I am amazed at all the delightful things it is doing for me. I'll write on that in another post. Let me know if you think you do, there's lots of out there. All looking for natural aids as well. Good luck!"
[YEA] 07/05/2007: Yaakova from Tulsa, Oklahoma: "I am a 44 yr old female with Type 2 diabetes, HBP and osteoarthritis. I had almost given up on myself until 2 months ago. I found your site and started taking ACV hoping for relief from arthritis pain (2 tbs 3x a day mixed with apple juice). The first 3 days were rough, I felt pretty bad. Then I started feeling better. Not only has ACV helped ease the arthritis pain, but it has also lowered my blood pressure and my blood sugar levels have also dropped! My average was 135 and it is now 108! I've even lost some weight! I feel like I have a new found energy and my sleep patterns have improved! I don't have food cravings anymore and my complexion looks great too. I can't say enough about how ACV has helped me. I have told several of my friends about this site. They too are having success with many of the remedies posted here. May I also say that I started Black Strap Molasses at the same time (1 tbs once a day with 5 oz milk). My period was very heavy with lots of large clots and lasted for almost 2 weeks. I was always weak and light-headed during my period. I am happy to report that my last period was only 7 days! The first 3 days were still heavy but it tapered off to normal. The light-headed feeling is gone too. I am so glad I found this website. I feel like I am becoming the person I used to be when I was younger and I am very happy with the changes."
[YEA] 05/16/2007: Becky from Queen Creek, AZ: "I tried the blackstrap molasses remedy last month for menstrual cramps and heavy bleeding. I started taking it right about when my period started. It helped a little bit, but I did still have some cramping. But I have been taking it every day for the past month and a half, and when I had my period this month, I had ABSOLUTELY NO CRAMPING! How wonderful! I think the bleeding was a normal level as well. Thanks for much for the info! I take 2 tablespoons of blackstrap molasses every morning in a glass of water along with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar."
[YEA] 04/23/2007: Zenith from Asheville, NC: "Thank you so much for your efforts in helping people like me take their health in their own hands! I have searched for years for the reasons I was feeling so sluggish and drained all the time, especially that one week (or more) a month....well I am here to tell you that there is certainly something to the Blackstrap Molasses...it WORKS!!!! For the first time since my youngest was born nearly 6 years ago I have suffered with nightmare periods, to the point where I wouldn't leave the house for nearly 10 days....after 5 weeks of taking BSM I am happy to say that my period was NORMAL and I am back to my old self again. I went from 10 days of misery to 5 days that I actually spent in my yard and garden. SMILE I take it as needed, if I started feeling crampy I would just eat it off the spoon and less than 30 minutes later...RELIEF! I recommend all women eat a little every day, you won't regret it! Good health to you all."
[YEA] 04/09/2007: Steel from Virginia, USA: "I was reading your notes regarding Black strap molasses, I used it for the past 2 months, I noticed that my period is less (5 days) compare to the 10 days, lighter and no pain at all. [YEA] 04/09/2007: Amanda from Sherman Oaks, CA: "I Love Earthclinic.com. It's my go-to website for everything health related. I know if there's a solution out there, I'll find it here.
I was looking for a solution to my miserable menstrual cramps. I have been taking Advil for as long as I can because the pain has always been so bad. I have tied other natural supplements and nothing worked. I saw the info on here about BSM and had to try it right away. I took a TBS the first day and my cramps were gone for almost a full 10 hours. I took it before bed and slept perfectly through the night. The next day I took 1 TBS in the morning (I drink mine hot with unsweetened vanilla almond milk) and by lunch I still had some dull aches so I took 1 more TBS and that did the trick no more cramps for the rest of the day. AMAZING!!! I felt great during my cycle and had plenty of energy. It also relieved my constipation. My cycle ended yesterday and today I took one teaspoon of BSM and I had lots of energy on the treill and no constipation. Thank you for the wonderful remedy. I was soooooo skeptical but it really works."
[YEA] 03/26/2007: Vickie from Toronto, Canada: "I had been having heavy periods for about 2 years. About 5 weeks ago I discovered this site by accident and began using blackstrap molasses; 1 tbsp in a glass of warm water twice a day mostly on an empty stomach about 20 mins before breakfast and dinner. I also occasionally had constipation. First I noticed that I was going to the bathroom regularly and this month my period was a lot lighter. It works people; pleeeeeeeeeeease try it. It works! V"
[YEA] 03/11/2007: Melissa from Chicago, IL: "I have been taking Black Strap Molasses now for three weeks. 2 tbsp a day In that short time frame, I have noticed an increase in energy, my monthly cycle wasn't the horrid painful nightmare it usually is, it was pain free, clot free, and psychosis free for the first time in my life. And the nasty dark circles under my eyes have all but vanished! And they were bad, I looked like I had two black eyes. I tried everything you can think of to get rid of those dark circles and NOTHING worked before now. I look five years younger! I'm amazed at the results I've seen so far and I've been telling everyone I know about this site."
[YEA] 03/07/2007: Chrissy from Farmingdale, New York: "Hi everyone, Just want to say thanks for the blackstrap molasses remedy. I just started my flow yesterday and I have been eating molasses every few hours, it is amazing the difference in my flow and the cramping i am usually miserable and very very heavy with clotting and so far so good!!!!!!"
[YEA] 02/25/2007: Kim from Westport, MA: "I have followed the advice of others on this site regarding the blackstrap molasses cure for cramps! Ohhhhhh my it DOES WORK! I take 1 Tablespoon daily no matter what everyday. During my cycle when my cramps begin I take another tablespoon, guess what within 10-20 minutes I have no pain, no nothing, no symptoms. I also take Apple Cider Vinegar daily as well, and I feel this is helping with the bloating I would have normally gotten. I wish I had taken advice
sooner, but all that matters is that it works! I trust what I read here on this site, because it works for me! My fingernails are growing strong and I am also able to have better bowel function, all in all this natural stuff is THE MIRACLE I have been looking for., They say when the student is ready the teacher appears! Guess I was ready! Thanks earthclinic for being my teacher, thanks to all those who write there words within this site. Thank you!"
[YEA] 02/12/2007: Caroline from Nairobi, Kenya: "Dear everybody, Thank you for your inspiring info about molasses. I have had fibroids for the last 3 years and all my life suffered from horrible period cramps. I was encouraged to drink 1 tsp of molasses daily with a cup of hot water day and night for the last 1 month and much to my amazement for the first time in my life i experienced no cramps whatsoever.Im confident my fibroids will be a thing of the past soon...Keep up the good work guys. Ill keep you posted. Carol"
[YEA] 11/19/2006: Andrea from Tulsa, OK: "I believe blackstrap molasses triggered my [menstrual] cycle, which had been off since July. I am using it daily 2 teaspoons in green tea and I am monitoring my fibroids-I know that it is helping with anemia because my weird cravings are seriously lessening- Love you people much, God Bless!"
[YEA] 10/24/2006: Suzy from British Columbia, Canada: "I SWEAR by this. Taking 2 or more tbsp. (I recommend 3-4 actually) of blackstrap molasses at a time and swallowing it down with water. Within 25 minutes your period cramps will be gone. Also repeat this every few hours at least the first 2 days then you can lessen it if you wish because you will also within half a day, notice a huge reduction in your flow. I know that much molasses at once is so rich (and gross!) to me but it works so well I've stuck to it for years. I used to sweat from the pain of my cramps ...I never get them anymore. The bottom line is my flow is cut in half and the days are also cut in half. Someone, please try it at least once and put your answer on here. It just works so great. Maybe you can mix the molasses in water or something to make it easier?? Good Luck!" EC: Read more menstruation cures here.
MOLASSES BOOK REVIEWS
07/05/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, : "Book Review "Crude Black Molasses" by Cyril Scott Even though the book is tiny half of the pages are empty while I think that there must be a lot of interesting things to say about molasses. I actually, only bought this book because I didn't find any other and was very interested in the subject. The author has a very Victorian style of writing which seems to
indicate that the book was written long before the first edition was published. He talks about the amount of "gallons" being allotted to the UK in 1946, meaning that it was maybe written somewhere after that date but the writing style feels much and much older. The quality of the paper is also very bad especially for those people who, like me, like to underline anything important (the ink leaks to the next page quite easily). Anyway, the book does contain some interesting information but would I have bought it if there was another alternative..... surely not! This said I will go on taking my tspoon full of molasses every day, hoping to keep healthy and to have my hair restored to its original color! If it is true that it can protect from cancer, lower blood pressure, keep your nails and hair in a good condition, cure skin problems, growths, constipation and colitis, ulcers, arthritis, strokes and much more it is surely worth it! An interesting fact is that molasses are alkaline while white sugar turns acid in your body. And also his suggestion to add a bit of molasses when you make your jams (as I use jellifying sugar which only exists in refined form I have always worried about my jams not being too healthy after all!). Maybe time some author would look into molasses and write a more comprehensive book?"
MOLASSES DAILY DOSAGES
01/08/2012: Stella from Goose Creek, S.c.: "Blackstrap Molasses My question is: how much is too much to take daily? I've read anywhere from 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon 3 times daily. I've been using it in chai tea with almond milk. Sometimes hot and other times cold. Is the 3 tablespoons too much? Is it okay to take is by itself right from the spoon? Thank you." Replies 01/08/2012: Mmsg from Somewhere, Europe replies: "Stella, anything in excess is not good. But I can tell you from my experience with BSM for aleviating anemia, I took 1 Tblsp. In hot water and soymilk twice a day, till I felt stronger, and then tapered off to once a day and now once in a few days. That's what worked for me." 01/08/2012: Stella from Goose Creek, S.c. replies: "Thank you for responding. Has anyone used the BSM for weightloss? Someone told me it helps speed up the metabolism."
MOLASSES RECIPES 11/16/2011: Anon from Anon: "I can't stand the taste of blackstrap molasses but it seems you have to take it awhile to get the hair color back. Anyone else here feel that way and have a trick to get it down? I tried warming it in some water and taking it as a shot but it was intense nastiness. I also tried adding the warmed BSM to my ACV-BS mix but it's so hard for me to swallow. I really want the benefits of it and hope there is some trick. It's just a flavor I abhor. Thanks."
Replies 11/16/2011: Alexandra from Cheshire, England replies: "I enjoy drinking BSM. I usually have one teaspoon in a mug of warm water with a pinch of sea salt. (I do not like it with ACV. ) You could try it in warm milk. My daughter had bad period pains but would not take BSM, so I made her cocoa with it in. I told her she wouldn't like it, but she drank it all and said it tasted ok, and she felt better in about an hour. I made it with 1 teaspoon cocoa in a mug of hot water, stirred in 1 teaspoon BSM then added a little cold milk. If you really cannot drink it, how about putting it in your cooking. The spices in a curry would mask the flavour, or make some parkin (oatmeal cake) - delicious!" 11/17/2011: Carly from Seattle, Wa - Usa replies: "I will say - I wanted to GAG the first time I drank the (unsulphered) BSM in water. It was such a strong flavor, it really did NOT taste like something I could do on a daily basis, but I really wanted to try it because of all of the great things I had read on here about it. I tried using less of it in my coffee the next day, and it tasted quite a bit better. The coffee really helped. I now use one tablespoon of it in my (1) smaller sized cup of coffee every morning - and I can now say that I would really miss it if I were to run out of it - which I have not, as I always keep a spare bottle on hand! A word to the wise though - start with a teaspoon, and work your way up to using more, or be prepared to stay by the bathroom for an hour after taking it. It WILL make your bowels regular. Sorry if TMI. ;-) ~Carly" 11/17/2011: Anon from Anon replies: "Thanks Alexandra, great ideas! I don't like hot beverages in general but I do like hot cocoa in the winter and hot soups year round. Never thought of adding it, I will try it in these. Thanks!" 11/17/2011: Dud from The Woods, Wv, Usa replies: "Anon; I also hate the taste of blackstrap molasses. I finallly found this recipe, that tastes good; Jar, with lid, 8 ounce Milk , cold, 6 oz. Carob powder, 1 tsp. B. S. Molasses, 2 tsp. Put in the jar , shake well, until all the molasses is dissolved. It will now taste like chocolate milk. For some reason, carob powder mixed with milk and a sweetener tastes exactly like cocoa. In no other recipe does it taste like cocoa. The molasses taste will now be disguised as a rich chocolate milk drink. [ I do not know if cocoa powder will also work in this drink, I never tried it.... It might. ]" 11/18/2011: Lisa from S. California, Ca, Usa replies: "Milk / calcium interferes with iron absorption. Try it with chocolate Rice milk." 11/18/2011: Anon from Anon replies: "I'm not much of a coffee drinker but might become one then (black coffee upsets my stomach sometimes). But I'll also give a try to the cocoa as well as the carob with a milk alternative as mentioned. Thanks everyone!" 01/08/2012: Linda from New Haven, Connecticut replies: "Lisa, thank you so much for the information about calcium interferring with iron absorption. I've only just started taking the molasses (on my second day) & was adding it to my milk with my turmeric & cayenne pepper.
It was delicious but I see now I'd better take it with something else. Perhaps my ACV & water will do." 02/21/2012: Hippy_chick from Perth, Western Australia, Australia replies: "Hi all - I am also having trouble getting the blackstrap molasses down. I've tried adding it to some of the other concoctions I've been brewing and taking, even my green smoothies in the mornings which sometimes I love with honey, and just find I can't stand the taste. What is working for me at the moment is in the morning I make a pot of tea (I have a 3 pot teapot) and putting a teaspoon of molasses in it. With all that water and the taste of the tea it isn't too bad. I then make another teapot in the afternoon and mix another teaspoon into it. I love herbal teas and find it's a great way to up my water intake so this is easy enough for me. However, 2 tsp of molasses a day is all I can manage at this point... Cheers EC!" 02/22/2012: My from Tucson, Arizona replies: "For those of you who do stir frys, drizzle the molasses over the veggies while stir frying. I find this actually enhances the over-taste of the stir fry and thickens the juices."
07/06/2011: Ginger from Toronto, Canada: "As a lot of people adding the black strap molasses to milk be it almond or soy, when milk is sweetened it has a very bad effect in the body and the health benefits are reduced milk sweetened increases the amount of mucus your body produces - hence, you wake with a lot of blowing of the nose in the morning with large amount of clear nasal discharge even throughout the day one will then have to drink at least 16oz of fresh carrot juice daily to cleanse the mucus from the body see the book counsels on diets and foods best regards, Ginger"
03/17/2011: Bondgirl from Nyc, Usa: "A great way to take Black Strap Molasses if you're finding it difficult to consume is adding it to sparkling water, it tastes like an organic version of coca cola. Add a twist of lemon and ice for a refreshing drink. "
02/24/2011: T from St. James, New York: "A cashier told me about a remedy of molasses you find in a health food store, mixed with beet juice, and taken every morning- that it will cure anything wrong with the body. It is what they used in her country (Islands). She added that the molasses could be taken with any fruit juice to substitute beet juice. Have not tried it yet.
Fresh squeezed fruit juice is a live whole food (full nutrient density) and turns the body alkaline when ingested, where as in processed juices full of added sugars where the nutrient density-(phyto nutrients, probiotics, enzymes, caritinoids, etc) has been destroyed, turns the ph acidy. Your body needs these nutrients for cell reproduction and organ functions. Nutritional Genomics is in its infancy. Our government is just finding this out and promoting it through fruit and veggies matter.gov along with many other government agencies (partners) such as the Center for Disease Control- CDC. gov This will be an interesting remedy to try. Here is an interesting fact sheet about Iron from the Ohio State Universtiy Extension. ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/5000/5559.html PS will check back in a couple of months and post my remedy results." Replies 02/25/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, replies: "Thanks for this new remedy but doesn't molasses only dilute in warm liquids? I drink fresh pressed fruit juices very often (pressed in a masticating juicer as not to kills all the good things in them), also beet juice although fresh beets are not easy to find here in as everybody buys them cooked and packed in plastic in the supermarket. But please tell me if you manage to dilute the molasses easily in a cold juice!" 01/08/2012: Linda from New Haven, Connecticut replies: "Hi Francisca. I know that the molasses WILL easily dissolve in a cold drink as I had been taking it in cold milk for the past two days. I'm now switching to water along with ACV as I've just learned that the calcium in the milk will inhibit the iron absorption from the BSM."
07/28/2010: Michelle from Barling, Arkansas: "I have been taking Blackstrap Molasses for about 6 months now and I was just on the site and saw that you pour boiling water over it before you mix it with soy milk.. I am just wondering why and if I need to start this step or is it ok to skip the boiling water and drink it in soy milk.. Thank you"
[YEA] 11/10/2009: Briana from Chicago, Il: "Molasses Chai I created the following recipe because I was trying to take several superfoods listed on this site every day and I couldn't stand the taste of the Blackstrap Molasses or the Turmeric. So I drink two cups of Molasses Chai a day: Start with 8 oz of hot water. Then add one chai tea bag (a tea blend including chai spices). While the tea steeps mix in 1 Tbsp of blackstrap molasses, 1 Tbsp of honey (raw is better), 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 2 dashes of turmeric. At this point stop to stir in the turmeric to dissolve the water soluble portion. Then add some milk (about 1/4 cup). U can substitute soy/rice milk etc. Mix in the milk and remove the tea bag. Add 1 Tbsp of coconut oil (virgin is better) and mix to dissolve turmeric in CO. Other than looking kind of funny because it will have a yellow tinted layer of oil on the top it will taste fine. Don't forget the vanilla it masks the flavor of the molasses. If it still tastes bad to you then put in less BSM, turmeric, and/or VCO until you get used to the flavor."

[YEA] 03/18/2009: Dianna from Austin, Tx: "i wanted to take blackstrap molasses and after trying a teaspoon of it in my morning coffee had very bad side effects that included high blood sugar, diaherrea, cramps and dizziness. so i stopped after 2 days. however that month when my period came i noticed that i had no cramping or clots at all. so i realized that the molasses (even taken that 2 times with the bad side effects) had a good effect on my period. so i tried taking it again with similar side effects and had to stop. however, i realized that i could eat it in cookies. it doesn't have side effects when i make whole wheat gingerbread cookies sweetened with molasses. so i figured maybe just taking it directly in coffee was what was the problem. so i tried putting 1/2 a teaspoon in my daily smoothie! success! now i am taking a teaspoon a day in my daily smoothie! i thought i would post this for other people who for whatever reason found they couldn't take blackstrap molasses straight. seems that when it is mixed with food that it doesn't have any of the side effects which from what i've learned seem to be from the natural occuring sulfites." EC: Dianna, great tip -- thank you! Cross-posted to the remedy side effects page. Replies 06/07/2009: PAMM from ALABASTER, AL replies: "Hello wanted to tell you I believe the reason you were having trouble with dizziness & your other symptoms is because some people cannot tolerate Molasses on a empty stomach. Because It has Iron in it which if you will read your suppose to take with food. I get nausea and dizzy & alot of other symptoms when I eat Iron on empty stomach. Also another reason is there is alot of sugar in Molasses. So When you don't eat and you take the molasses it causes your blood sugar to spike very quickly. And this can cause dizziness too, and a feeling of not feeling very well. Just make sure you take it with food (protein) and you won't have all these symptoms. As I can see you have found what works for you.. I hope that your getting the benefits out of it. Going Natural for Health Is The Best Way To Go! I just started this new treatment! [YEA] 03/10/2009: Rachel from Chicago, IL: "I have tried black strap molasses in many different ways because it is not pleasant to taste. The way that I think is best is warming a cup of milk in the microwave, adding 1 tablespoon of bsm, and trying different teas. My favorite tea to use is a vanilla decaf. by Bigelow. This tastes very good. Caramel is also good. Milk tastes much better than water."
01/27/2009: Jude from Louisville, Ky: "I got my "house of herbs" BSM at Kroger 2.63 a jar. For people who don't like the taste of BSM this my help. When I was little my grandfather used to mix BSM and peanut butter together and put it on a piece of toasted heavy grain bread it was good then and its good now i don't know the exact measures he just put some peanut butter in a bowl and added BSM to it until it got the right color. Hope this helps." Replies [YEA] 11/18/2011: Alexandra from Cheshire, England replies: "I have just tried the BSM mixed with peanut butter. I spread it on oatcakes (dry oat crackers). It was delicious. A quick, nutritious snack. Thank you." 03/20/2012: Jamie from Haslet, Texas, Usa replies: "I have to try the peanut butter, that sounds edible. I have been using the BSM for about a week, and my skin has not been so clear in years. My eczema is almost gone. The taste is really hard to get past though. I found that a smoothie is the best way to mask it. My recipe is:
1 large banana
4-5 ice cubes
1tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1tbsp organic coconut oil
1/4 cup of coffee to dissolve BSM and Coconut Oil.
1/4 cup milk, or water.
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, or vanilla extract. Optional 1tsp cayenne pepper.
Blend well. You cannot even taste the Blackstrap anymore. It tastes like a banana muffin." MOLASSES RECIPES [YEA] 01/07/2009: Tina from River John, Nova Scotia, Canada: "I have come up with a great way to take black strap molasses and virgin coconut oil. I make fudge out of three ingredients. I take 2 tbls BSM, 2 TBLS VCO, 2 TBLS OF a peanut butter or any nut butter preferably organic but not necessary, I have even used nutella. I melt VCO by putting it in a dish placed in sink with hot waterfor a slow melt. Add the peanut butter mix until smooth and add the BSM mix until smooth. Pour into a flat dish and refrigerate until hard. Then I cut it into one tbls size squares.I take one square in the am and one in the pm.some would want to increase the amount of intake, but this is the right amount for me. i also take the weekend off from consuming this. I make this every few days so that it is always fresh. I would love some on this if you like it or if someone sees a problem with taking it this way. Hope this helps people to stomach some of the things that can be hard to take. This actually tastes all right. Tina" Replies [YEA] 06/18/2009: Andrea from Templeton, CA, USA replies: "I made your fudge and added some ground organic cocoa beans that I had on hand. Very tasty... a lot like "regular" chocolate fudge"
06/23/2010: Katie from Tel Aviv, Israel replies: "Thanks for the recipe, Tina. Peanut butter sounds good, but I didn't have any on hand, so I made it with unprepared tehina paste (the thick stuff from which you make tehini salad). It also has a strong taste so it counters the molasses well. I added lots of chopped walnuts as well. Reasonably tasty." 06/24/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, replies: "Be aware that peanuts often contain mold, peanut butter seems to contain a lot more than cocktail peanuts because they use the more affected ones in the butter as you won't notice it!" [YEA] 10/19/2011: Ec6270 from South Florida, Fl, Us replies: "Love Tina's recipe, I adjusted a litte and use almond butter, VCO and unsweetened baking chocolate or cocoa which I mix while heaing in a pan with BSM. I add Grade B maple syrup and/or honey to tast as well as vanilla extract, perhaps a sprinkle of cinnamon, sometime mix in dried blueberries or cranberries - then refrigerate and eat a few tablespoons a day. In addition, I have gotten used to taking it straight by the tablespoonful and find it's like taking happy pills - puts me in a great mood and leaves me with great energy all day. Also have gotten a number of comments from people suggesting I have been coloring my hair darker. Love this stuff!"
[YEA] 09/07/2008: Joy from Ft Lauderdale, Florida: "I have been reading of the benefits for blackstrap molasses and although I am not repulsed by the organic taste, I do not find it quite "enjoyable". I read about another putting the syrup in his coffee and I wanted to report back this morning after having just finished my coffee that is was TRULY enjoyable! And I mean that I really could not taste the BSM in my coffee at ALL. I know sometimes on this site, especially with the ACV, the recipes that are often touted as very tasty are not so, but this one is actually very good. It really just tastes like coffee. SO! I fill a very large (16 ounce, it's one of those Starbuck's ones) mugs 2/3 with coffee (I buy Celestial Seasonings Organic Caramel Mocha, although I'll be switching to plain Organic after this bag) After filling 2/3 full I add: 1 tbs BSM, but tomorrow I will try with 1.5 tbs since it went unnoticed at 1 tbs 1 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder (I use Scharffen Berger.... AWSOME) And a full rounded teaspoon plus one half a rounded tsp of plain white sugar (yes, white sugar... don't yell... I suppose you could use honey or splenda or raw sugar, as long as it's fairly neutral and sweet) And then I top it all off with Silk Vanilla Soymilk. So in a nutshell: 2/3 mug of organic coffee 1 TBS BSM 1 TBS cocoa powder 1.5 ROUNDED tsp sugar of your choice Fill to top with milk of choice YUM! I can't wait to reap the benefits!!! I'm going to try upgrading to 1.5 tbs tomorrow!! Oh, plus cocoa powder in hot water/milk I have recently read is going under scrutiny as possibly being
more antioxidant-rich than GREEN TEA. WOO!! Add that cocoa powder and drink your health!! <3 Joy"
[YEA] 08/03/2008: Mary from Concord, NH: "I cannot stand the taste of bsm! I put it in with some milk and ice and almost threw up. Then I put 1T. in with my morning protein shake, could barely detect it. My protein shake consists of 1 scoop choc. spirutein, 1 banana, plain fat-free yogurt, ground flax seed and water (no milk)."
[YEA] 04/11/2008: Martha from Ontario, Canada: "I have just started ACV for weight loss and blackstrap molasses in hopes of reversing advancing gray hair. This recipe made both products more palatable for me: 2tbsp ACV 2tbsp BSM Mix in a tall glass until the BSM is dissolved. Add a full can of club soda or mineral water - be careful, it really fizzes. Stir lightly, add ice if desired, and enjoy. Sorta sweet, sorta tangy, nicely fizzy, dark brown. It's a taste that grows on you, sort of like Coke does."
[YEA] 03/20/2008: Mary from VA Beach, VA: "I just wanted to let readers know, that if you have trouble taking the BSM due to taste and consistency, it is really delicious in coffee. I always put a pinch of baking soda in my coffee to reduce the acid. I am a person who can eat just about anything, but I also know that if I don't care for the taste of something, I will not make a lifelong habit of taking it. I also found that you can't disguise the taste of ACV. Straight with a pinch of baking soda, and take it down in a couple of swallows, much easier than dragging it out." Replies 06/13/2008: JGR from Venice, Florida replies: "In reference to adding a pinch of baking soda to ACV to make it more palatable before drinking it. This may make it more palatable, but you are neutralizing the acidic quality of the ACV, rendering it useless in most cases."
[YEA] 09/13/2007: Alena from Roseville, California: "In reference to the BSM chocolate milk recipe. I found that it mixes better without the ice in the blender. Add ice cubes to make colder if desired to your glass after mixing. Also I add about 1/2 tblsp of maca root powder to mine. Very good for you and gives it a malted flavor. Look up maca root on line. One of its main properties is it regulates the endrocine system which regulates your hormones. It is awesome stuff."
[YEA] 09/12/2007: Alena from Roseville, California: "I tried some of the recipes for black strap molasses and struggled to get it down. So I have another item I take in a shake form. It is maca root powder. I tried adding BSM to that and it tastes great just like chocolate milk. RECIPE about 12 oz milk about 1 tblsp honey 1 tblsp black strap molasses about 1 tblsp unsweetened cocoa 3-4 ice cubes (optional) put all this in a blender for a few moments and enjoy"
[WARNING!] 09/02/2007: Catherine F Clark from Chicago, Illinois, USA: "BSM is good stuff. However, if you wish to use milk, use raw milk. Raw cow's milk does not have the problems associated with pasturized, homogonized milk. Also, please be aware that soy is not the wonderful thing the soy industry would have you beleive! If you have hypothyroidism, unfermented soy is the worst thing you can ingest! Almond milk and any seed milks are very good. We drink goat milk when we have milk. BSM would fit in with goat milk very well." Replies 11/25/2008: Nigel from London, England replies: "I keep hearing that cows milk is bad for you does this also apply to goats milk?" 06/25/2009: Elizabeth from Mountain Center, CA replies: "It is not the cow milk that is harmful, but rather the pasteurization/homogenization. So any milk (cow/goat) in its raw state is good for you."
[YEA] 08/30/2007: Michelle from Stamford, CT: "Another alternative to using soy or milk in the Fountain of Youth recipe is hemp milk. I tried this a couple of nights ago and enjoyed it so much that I'd like to share it here. Hemp is high in protein and the EFAs Omega 3 and 6. In a small pot combine and heat to warm (do not boil): 3 ounces hemp milk 3 ounces water 1 tbl molasses Stir till molasses melts, and once mixture gets thoroughly heated, sprinkle cinnamon to taste. No extra sweetner is needed."
[WARNING!] 08/06/2007: Stacy from Parker, Colorado, USA: "Regarding the ingesting of Blackstrap Molasses and Milk, I cannot stress enough how HARMFUL cow's milk is to the human body. This issue transcends far beyond mere lactose intolerance. The human body is biologically designed neither to consume nor absorb the abnormal nutrient content of cow's milk. This includes all Dairy products (milk, cheese, cream, yogurt, etc.). For those that find it difficult to take blackstrap molasses straight, I would
recommend either water or perhaps an organic fruit juice to mix it with. Milk...it does NOT do a body good. For more info, see www.notmilk.com" Replies 02/26/2009: Nico from Las Vegas, NV replies: "While I would tend to agree with that. Some milk products are not bad and are required in certain health formulas. Raw milk and cream with eggs have been used by bodybuilders back in the 50-60 for muscle gain. The "budwig Diet" which is the most proven cancer cure diet that exists requires quark or cottage cheese as the sulfur containing protein is required to mix with flax or hemp oil for her recipe to work and absorb into the body. It's the best way to to get your oils and there is no non-dairy substitute THAT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO WORK. Also yogurt and some cottage cheese also has lots of acidophiles which are good bacteria that your body needs. But I would avoid drinking milk itself and cut back on dairy other than those above exceptions." 04/28/2010: Selina from Edmonton, Alberta replies: "For people that don't want to use cow's milk with UBSM, try using almond milk instead. Its delicious!"
[YEA] 07/05/2007: Betty Boop from Atlanta, USA: "i just started taking BSM(blackstrap molasses) three days ago, so i do not know with it is doing to me .But i do know that it was very hard for me to drink BSM with a cup of warm milk , so i decided to try it with concentrated cherry syrup(its the kind that should be mixed with water) . I know take 1 teaspoon of BSM in the morning when i wake up and quickly drink half a cup of water and then i quickly drink as much as i need(usally a little) of concentrated cherry syrup straight from the bottle(its not harmful if you do not mix it with water) and then drink the other half of the water because the concentrated cherry syrup is sour but it compeletly takes the of the BSM out and the concentrated cherry syrup doesn't taste half as bad as BSM. i do this 4 times a day so that it will make 2 tablespoons. The concentrated cherry syrup is not like cherry medicine it is simply CHERRY NOTHING ELSE, so it does not taste anything like cherry medicine. at first it might be really sour but you get used to it very quickly and it will taste like a great treet after taking BSM!lol I will try to keep you guys updated on how BSM helps me. God Bless this website! it is so awesome that God made natraul ways to get cured from many things."
[WARNING!] 05/29/2007: Vickie from Ontario, Canada: "I have done extensive research on fibroids and their cures from several sources (books, internet, etc). I learned that cow's milk is not at all good for those with uterine fibroids. I know some of you said in order to get molasses down you mix it with warm milk. This may be alright for those of you who do not have fibroids but for the others who do have fibroids, please do not mix it with cow's milk. You may use almond milk or rice milk. What I personally do is mix it with plain warm water and some apple cidar vinegar. Now I do realize that, for some of us, this may still be hard to get down, if so, go for the almond or rice milk concoction. The molasses is good stuff so people please take it religiously! Good luck. [YEA] 04/06/2007: Christine from San Diego, California: "I have been suffering with the symptoms describing hypothyroidism. Last week I started the EVCO and added the ACV, of course, decided to throw
in the molasses. I will keep you all posted on my progress, trying to feel better and lose the 40 pounds I have picked up. Today I write because I have come up with a great drink. It kills two birds with one stone. Here goes: ONE LARGE MUG 2 BAGS OF LIPTON CARMEL TRUFFLE TEA ONE TBSP EVCO [Extra Virgin Coconut Oil] ONE TBPS BLACK STRAP MOLASSES ONE HALF TO ONE TBSP HONEY POUR BOILING WATER OVER THE INGREDIENTS IN MUG AND STIR GENTLY WHILE STEEPING TO MELT THE COCONUT OIL. I could not stand the taste of the molasses, however it is so yummy in this tea. Hope you like it. I have noticed since the evco and acv that like most everyone else, my ENERGY has soared, skin soft, body temp up, hair and nails gowing, dry seriously cracking heels softer and healing (using oil dirrectly) no more claritin, sleeping better, brighter outlook. This is only my seventh day. At first I seemed to gain a little weight, but just today I noticed the scale is down 1 pound. I am keeping at it and will keep you posted. Christine"
[YEA] 03/21/2007: Carol from Central Florida, USA: "With all of the great recipes offered for the black strap molasses, I still couldn't get it down. That is, until I blended it with a cup of milk (I'm using lactose free), one half to three quarters of a banana - a great shake!! In efforts to make it healthier, I add about 1/4 teaspoon of cinammon and a tiny piece of fresh ginger. It's a wonderful tasting breakfast and I keep a second beverage available for sipping throughout the day for giving me a super calcium dose daily!"
[YEA] 03/03/2007: Amy from Hicksville, NY: "TO MAKE YOUR BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES EXPERIENCE SOOTHING TO THE PALATE - TRY A CUP OR SO OF MILK, WARM IN A SAUCEPAN FOR JUST HAVE A MINUTE AND ADD THE MOLASSES TO THE WARM MILK IN THE SAUEAN STIR - POUR DRINK AND ENJOY - IT DOES TASTE LIKE A COFFEE LATTE . . ."
[YEA] 03/01/2007: Vicki from Oceanside, CA: "I have been taking Blackstrap Molasses for several days now, in my morning tea. It is absolutely delicious in a sweet, richer tea (like chai or caramel) with a tsp of honey, milk as creamer, and a touch of cinnamon. It tastes great enough to have a second or third cup, and more energizing than an energy drink (without the chest pains and bloating I usually get from caffeine). Even aside from the great health benefits, it's worth it to use it for the inexpensive energy boost alone."
[YEA] 02/27/2007: Lisa from West Plains, MO: "As someone on here suggested, mixing molasses and hot milk. I tried it, was a little skeptical, it tastes really good. I was surprised because well if you've had
blackstrap molasses straight than you know how it makes you cringe. I put a spoonful in hot milk. I use a tall glass because I prefer more milk so the molasses isn't very strong. Adjust to your tastebuds."
[YEA] 01/28/2007: Misty from Harrisonville, MS: "I am currently trying to fight fibroid tumors and read about the molasses. I did order a bunch of it and when I got it I couldn't get the stuff down without gagging and nearly throwing it back up. I did stop doing it and began other options although they have helped I began bleeding more and getting tired, and loosing my energy. I decided to try the molasses. again to help with this and I still couldn't get it down, so I tried it with a tablespoon full with a 4oz cup of grape juice and drank it with a straw as far back in my mouth as possible. It is so much easier to get down and since the grape juice packs such a punch of flavor it's self it nearly covers the taste. I must say I have only been doing it a day now so I will keep you up dated on my fibroid and energy level to help further confirm the black strap molasses cure."
[YEA] 01/21/2007: Kelley from Sellesburg, Indiana: "Hint for making blackstrap more palatable to take: mix one tablespoon with milk (yes...it is good) and drink hot; tastes like a caramel latte. Honest!!"
[YEA] 12/21/2006: Jennifer from Raleigh, NC: "I'm going out tomorrow to stock up on everything I've read tonight from ACV to Molasses. Someone inquired as to how to use he Molasses to make it more palatable. It is pretty common around where I live to have Molasses on top of a buttered biscuit (for the non-US readers, that is a bread roll). I would imagine one can use it in similar, yet healthier manner-on toasted whole grain bread or waffles. The fat in the butter seems to temper the sour taste of the Molasses, I am not sure how it would be with other fats."
[YEA] 02/04/2006: Alastair from NI: "I recommend molasses in porridge every morning. Not only does it flavour the porridge but it also sets me up for the day ahead. I have been an avid molasses fan for 9 years now and I ensure that it accompanies me on my many cycling trips as it gets me over the hills!!"
MOLASSES VS. DEMERARA SUGAR [QUESTION] 04/28/2009: Karina from Munich, Bavaria/: "Could anyone tell me if Demerara Sugar has the same health ing properties as blackstrap molasses? With regards to blackstrap molasses is it important if the molasses comes from sugar beet or sugar cane? If anybody has insights on it would be great. Especially I would like to know what molasses people to to remedy their hormonal balance and hair growth. Thanks for any insights!" MULTIPLE CURES [YEA] 05/23/2011: Mary from Greensboro, Nc, Usa: "For one month, I have been taking 1 tbs of Blackstrap Molasses in warm almond milk each morning. I love the taste. My nails, skin, bowel movements have improved and I think I sleep better. Another benefit is that it curbs my appetite and my friends are telling me that I look like I've lost weight and I am losing weight. As for my hair, it may be getting darker and my husband's hair definitely looks darker. We looking forward to the next 3 months. We will keep doing this and making other nutritional adjustments."
[YEA] 01/05/2010: Erin from Lafayette, In: "Molasses I've been taking molasses (about 1TBl/day split into 2 cups of green tea -- with a lot of milk... I don't really like the taste of this stuff LOL) for nearly 3 months now as an experiment. I originally tried it to see what would happen with the good ol' monthly (mom's peri-menopausal and occassionally bleeds longer than she should so I tested this on me) and here's what I've come up with. I still have gray hair. In fact some of the hair near my temples is just plain ol' white. And apparently if L'Oreal can't fix it, neither can molasses. That's okay. Apparently 38 isn't considered premature graying ;) My periods are lighter. Kelp and molasses together seem to be an excellent combination to keep things at a dull roar. I've gone from a good 5 days of heavy flow with 2 days of annoyance added on, to about 1 1/2 days of heavier flow and 3 1/2 days of super light flow. So I've dropped about 2 days and I'm saving money on products left and right. But the BIG one for me has been the surprising lack of t pain. I was taking it for about 2 weeks before I realized that my left ankle, which I broke in beautiful ways about 2 1/2 years ago, was no longer stiff when I woke up, and I could now move it in the same ways that I can move my unviolated right ankle. I can even jog again without feeling every jarring impact on that ankle. For that reason alone I will continue
torturing myself with the (blech) taste of this stuff on a twice daily basis. Another strange, yet welcome, side-effect has been my fingernails. Normally, I only have fingernails this strong and happy in the middle of summer with high amounts of sunshine and a Biotin supplement -- even when I supplement with Vit. D in the winter months it's just not the same. I haven't taken my biotin supplement since I started the molasses, though I do keep up with the Vit. D and I have to actively work to break these things. And for the t thing, I've turned others onto this miracle syrup in a bottle and they've reported back with the same thing -- when they take it daily, they can tell a significant difference and when they forget they feel it. So for that alone, I'd say it's worth a shot." MULTIPLE CURES [YEA] 12/19/2009: Ravi S from Dallas, Texas: "Unsulfured Blackstrap Molasses. I happened to read the s on Blackstrap Molasses. I have a self diagnosed Celiac's and went on Gluten free for a year. I had to switch to a low fiber food option because of this. Even though my stomach feels good, I have been experiencing constipation off and on with rare IBS. I have started BSM for a week or so, 2 tablespoons, one in AM coffee and one the night warm milk. Here are the immediate changes experienced by me. Constipation is gone totally. My eyesight is better and I have lots of energy. Hope to continue on this for a while."
[YEA] 12/06/2009: Shar from Milwaukee, Wisconsin: "hello all! I am a 30 yr. old female who is overweight and recently had gall stones. I also have iron defienciency anemia. My family has started eating organic and all natural 3 yrs. ago. I recently started researching all natural cures as i don't believe in going to doctors unless its absolutly neccessary. I read about apple cider vinegar and blackstrap molasses. i started the blackstrap molasses first (2 tbs daily) and the numbness i was feeling in my fingertips and legs has went away. I am still waiting for my menstrual cycle to come to see if it will ease the heavy bleeding. but it has eliminated my stomach cramping (that felt like labor contractions) that I usually have monthly. But this is about the apple cider vinegar. let me tell you it really works! started by taking 2 tsp. once a day in 8 oz. of water. 3 days later i had extreme pain in my ear and my jaw that has yet to go away. I also have extreme itching everywhere. That doesn't sound good does it? but it is good cause i know that it is my body getting rid of toxins. I have been peeing like crazy and having regular bowel movements without straining( which is the opposite of the consipation i was having from taking iron pills). I think for all of you who are all sufferring from itching or jaw pain etc. should up your water intake. I started drinking a gallon of water a day and the itching is going away. I now take 2 tbs of acv chased by a 16 oz. glass of water in the morning, then proceed to drink water throughout the day and i feel great! I have more energy(no more sluggishness)and i know my 5 kids are happy to see that! I plan to keep taking ACV despite the side effects(unless it brings more harm than good) to see if it will aid in my weightloss.
Also i have been using the ACV on my hair and it has smoothed the cuticle and made my hair less frizzy!"
[YEA] 07/26/2009: George from Nairobi, Kenya: "been taking bsm now for slightly over two weeks now and it has surely worked graet. I started taking it for my hair which had started turning grey around ten years back when i was about 29yrs old. While searching for remedies Ilanded on this site and decided to give it a trial. I have not seen results on my grey hair since it is only about two weeks now but alot of other benefits already. My chronic fatigue is now completely gone. Iwas ever tired morning or evening with my lower back feeling like cut in two with alot of tension. My chest also had occasional sharp pains. [YEA] 11/06/2008: Judy from Cincinnati, Ohio: "I just turned 41 & have started feeling the grips of hormonal changes along with having a history of huge fibroids. I had 5 lbs of fibroids removed last yr in a robotic surgery that went terrifically & preserved my fertility :) I still want to have children & decided to take a natural, active involvement in my health. I have always worked out religiously since I was 15 so I've been in great shape & been able to tolerate the pain of those fibroids. But at age 41 I was finding that I no longer could run on the junk food that I liked to eat & was lacking energy along with not having a normal cycle. I wanted so much to have a normal cycle without the complications of a birth control pill. ACV gave me that :) But I was also dealing with more heart palpitations that I just couldn't control with my diet & vitamin taking. Yesterday, it was really getting in my way of life so I ran out & got the molasses. And I'm so happy to report that it made those nasty heart palpitations go away, gave me energy to go play tennis that evening ( in fact, I was burning the court with my energetic plays) & is helping my chronic constipation. I've gone to the bathroom 3 times since last evening to this morning and that's simply wonderful!!! I urge everyone to try ACV & molasses ~ they are TERRIFIC!!!!" [YEA] 09/03/2008: Lee from Madison, UK: "I had been wanting to find something - ANYTHING - to help with my lack of energy and pain throughout my body. A friend told me about your site, and I started reading about BSM. I rushed out and was able to buy some at Whole Foods. It is the Plantation Brand. I bought some for myself, my parents and my daughter. I started taking two tablespoons in the morning and one at night. Within 3 days, my energy levels are up and my body pain in nearly gone. The stiffness is subsiding. Throughout my life, I have been very active, but the past couple years have been very discouraging. After taking BSM for a mere 3 days (starting on my 4th) I cannot tell you how thankful I am. My father, who just turned 77, was able to workout yesterday, felt energized along with feeling much less pain in his upper back. He also said that he felt very good when he got up yesterday morning. He's a weight-lifter and broke the world record at 75. Dead-lifted 500 lbs, so he would know if his energy level is up. BSM is certainly a marvelous way to energize yourself and feel better. To Earth Clinic, thank you very much for the wonderful service you provide. [YEA] 10/04/2007: Ana from Boston, MA: "I have been taking 2 tablespoons of blackstrap molasses every day for 2 months with my morning cup of coffee and a little milk. Delicious! I am in my 50's. My hair was starting to gray in certain spots and was becoming noticeable. So, this experiment was to see if the molasses would halt the graying. Well, for one thing, I have NO MORE SUGAR CRAVINGS throughout the day. I don't care to taste desserts, ice cream, chocolates, nothing. I have lost some weight. My dark circles are clearing up. I feel better. I still have the old strands of gray, there has not been a sign of new gray hair. TED, my only questions are: Is the sucrose level of molasses more damaging than the few minerals and little iron that molasses contains??? According to Dr. Mercola, molasses is as bad as any refined sugar. TED: What is the best thing for my hair which was and still is quite sparse from my forehead to the top of my head? I started losing hair in my early thirties. It is fine and in the sunlight it is quite noticeable. What can I do? Ana"
[YEA] 09/21/2007: Tammy from St. Louis, MO: "Hi. I have been diagnosed with Stage IV metatstatic breast cancer (spread to the bones). I have become anemic. Dr. said to take in more iron. I bought blackstrap molasses unsulphured. Took a tablespoon Tuesday evening, a tablespoon Wednesday morning. Noticed Wednesday afternoon I "had energy" & then realized that after a 4 block walk at a fast pace did not leave me winded and fatigue my legs (the Saturday before I became winded and fatigued after only 1 block). Went home from work, took another tablespoon, did heavy gardening until 10:00 that night. Was still feeling energized! Took the same amount of blackstrap Thurday and Friday (today). Here is the amazing part: when I am anemic, I get tinnitus - sound in my ears. It is a pulsating sound like I can hear my blood pulsating through my veins. The more anemic I am, the louder the tinnitus. I've been through this before. Took blood transfusions and the tinnitus went away. My last treatment regimen for the cancer worked (for awhile) and as I got better from the medication, my blood got better, and the tinnitus gradually went away. Now, since taking the blackstrap (starting three days ago), each night I notice the tinnitus is lessened. Last night it was BARELY audible and was not constant. I expect tonight it will not be there at all. (Night time is when I notice it when all is very quiet). I would bet were I to have my blood tested today, my red blood cell and platelet counts would be either normal or just about normal. OK, I am truly amazed. Is it the blackstrap? Ok, next thing to try: hydrogen peroxide. Then apple cider vinegar! God bless you all for sharing!" Replies

Baking soda prevents all kinds of infection and my grandmother lived to late 90's using it to brush her teeth. She was never sick. I was having a lot of trouble sleeping and developing symptoms of restless leg syndrome (common in pregnancy). I decided to give it a shot. Long story short, my son is pooping like a champ and I started sleeping through the night without any jerking limbs ON THE FIRST DAY! I ran out for one day, and I had a horrible night sleep. [YEA] 02/11/2007: Kim from Westport, MA: "Hi there I have been reading and applying the remedies on this site now for over a week with positive results. Since I have added taking 1 tablespoon full of blackstrap molasses every morning before or after my acv concoction, I have noticed something different about the hair growth I suffer from on my face. It I feel has retarded the growth, slowing it down so I don't have to pluck so often. Could it be true? I have suffered for years and years with this condition, I think due to polycystic syndrome. Is it possible that possibly the magnesium in the molasses is affecting my hormones in such a positive way? All I know is, I will keep taking the acv and backing soda for general well-being and pain reduction, along with my tablespoon of black strap molasses to help with female issues and help reduce pain as well. I have noticed my knee pain that was really bad, has almost totally gone away. When I mention what I do to others they simply shake there head roll there eyes, and decide its not for them. But I have to say my excitement and testimonials are making some wonder! All I know is my dermatitis disappeared, and pain has greatly diminished and now facial hair slowing down...I am waiting for my body to begin showing me more signs of all of the natural elements being to cure/heal& be gone! I am in awe of this site and appreciate all the I read. Kim"

I have been taking 3 tsp regularly since 3 weeks ago. I am amazed -- it has cured my ankle which i no longer have to strap up. Also my carpal syndrome was incredibly painful especially at night. Thankfully i don't have pain anymore. Finally i was astonished to notice that i had actually lost 10 lbs in weight. i think it has cured my sugar craving as i don't feel as hungry anymore. I have been telling my family and friends to take it as it's like a miracle cure for many things. Also my skin is fresh looking, nails are stronger and my hair is shinier."

PREGNANCY [YEA] 02/20/2007: Rose from Harrisburg, PA: "I'm replying to the person who is 15 weeks pregnant and asking about taking blackstrap molasses. I started taking blackstrap molasses with raw apple cider vinegar (once a day in the morning) before I got pregnant and during my pregnancy everyday. And I also had large fibroids. I carried my baby full term. He is a healthy baby boy (8lbs 3oz). No complications and no pain from the fibroids. Molasses has a load of minerals and vitamins that the baby needs. This is excellent for the baby." PREGNANCY [YEA] 02/15/2007: Nihsbell from Brooklyn, NY: "My friend and I just find out about the website today as well as about the Molasses and how it can help with Fibroids. My main concern is that I am about 15 weeks pregnant and I'm not sure if this will affect my baby in any way, on the other hand the fibroid is causing me lots of pain with very little for me to do about it because I'm pregnant. Can someone please tell me if the Molasses is safe for me to take while pregnant?" Replies [YEA] 06/29/2011: Cyndi from Asheville, Nc, Usa replies: "Hi, I am 10 weeks pregnant and have been making a 'morning tonic' with molasses, organic apple cider vinegar and honey. I got the okay from my midwife who said that women have been giving birth for 1000s of years and have been taking ACV, molasses and honey for 1000s of years. It is safe. I feel like I have so much more energy making my morning tonic, too. Here's my tonic: In a cup of warm water I add: 1 tbsp organic apple cider vinegar (I use Bragg's) 2 tbsp raw honey
1 tbsp molasses I don't know if this is helping, but so far I have had NO morning sickness, very little dizziness, and feel much more energetic througout the day. I also make a tea of raspberry leaves, lemon balm and plantain leaf in the evening. The raspberry leaves are said to help inhibit morning sickness, and help your body to create a strong amniotic sac to carry the baby to term; it also has a lot of calcium - a critical need during pregnancy. The lemon balm is soothing. The plantain leaf contains lots of B vitamins and is considered "poor man's spinach" - haha, I pick it out of my yard! Hope that helps!"

RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME [YEA] 11/16/2007: Kim from Westport, MA: "Hi, there is a cure for restless leg syndrome, and it comes in the form of BLACK STRAP MOLASSES. While using BSM for I discovered that my restless leg syndrome stopped completely, as long as I use it daily. I have suffered for years with this condition, family , my dad , brother and aunt have it so hereditary I am sure and from what I read there are plently of pills doctors will prescribe for you, but for me natural is the only way to go. I take 1 tablespoon a day of BSM, I use it to manage my female issues and PMS, and heavy bleeding, that now is cut in half, and the happy side affect to that regimine was the cure for my restless leg syndrome, which caused so much pain, and movement just to fall asleep. I have to say that this website has given me my life back in a way that is a miracle. No pills for me if I can ever help it. I look up a syndrome, or condition and more then likely I find it here and I try it and or apply it to my own life and see how it goes. So far so good. I believe that we know ourselves better then any doctor ever could. This website could be the very thing that saves your life. I mean more and more on tv to radio I see and hear more and more about restless leg syndrome and companies promoting more and more medicines for the syndrome so they can make money, if they did research like I did online they would see the cure right in front of them, it comes up in my search right away. Simple and inexspensive and it doesn't hurt the body in other ways. I get frustrated just seeing commercials trying to get people to take there drugs. Anyhow, BSM 1 tablespoon a day has cured my RLS and I am forever grateful. I do my best to promote this site to friends and family and I know they get tired of listening to me sometimes, but thats OK! The truth here for me is a miracle
so ing it along is just what we're supposed to do. In the right kind of world. Thanks a million to all have written here."

In half an hour I will have diaherrea for a few hours. Is this normal or I am allegic to BSM? When I drink ACV, I don't have that problem." EC: Blackstrap molasses is known to be a very effective cure for constipation! Conversion: 3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon Replies [SIDE EFFECTS] 04/07/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, replies: "Hi Jesse, I did the same for the past two days and I had bad diarrhea. Before I went on holidays I would take a teaspoon of molasses every morning, sometimes one in the evening and it wasn't this bad. Now I will stop for a few days and start with a lower dose. I had no idea that molasses was used for constipation...... A pity because now instead of getting all the good stuff in molasses I am loosing all the nutrients of anything else I eat." 04/07/2010: Candy from Fort Madison, Ia replies: "i had that problem too until i used it after eating. in other words, if i took it on an empty stomach, i would get d. but, i found a wonderful way to enjoy it if you like coffee. i put a tbls. in a cup of warm coffee, then set it aside. later in the day i pour it over ice for ice coffee. tastes almost like one of those wonderful mocha coffees everybody likes. well, i mean if you like coffee. hope this helps somebody."
07/02/2010: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, replies: "I have to say that this surprises me..... a lady in a health food shop told me a while ago that she lived somewhere in an exotic place (I don't where) and that the population which is very poor used to get molasses as kind of a food suplement as it wasn't used for anything else. A lorry would come along and distribute it. Then a lot of people would surely be feeling ill...... I have to say that other than diarrhea if I take it first thing in the morning I never felt any other side effect." [SIDE EFFECTS] 07/02/2010: Charlotte from Seattle, Washington, Usa replies: "I agree with Pamm! Beware the spike in blood sugar from blackstrap molasses! I don't have anything to check my blood sugar readings, but I had the same side effects after taking blackstrap molasses in my hot tea a while back when we ran out of our usual sweetener (organic brown sugar). I felt dizzy and faint (but not right away, a few hours later). I stopped taking honey for this same reason. Very good idea to be able to check your blood sugar, thanks for the reminder Pamm!" [WARNING!] 07/02/2010: Pamm from Birmingham, Alabama replies: "Beware, I don't have Diabetes. However, after taking this Black strap molasses I started feeling bad and started urinating alot! I checked my blood sugar (I do this for optimal health) and it was 223!! Only after 5 minutes of taking 1 teaspoon of Black Strap Molasses. So Be Careful Especially If You Have High Sugar issues.. I felt Faint, dizzy, and the more you urinate the more potassium and sodium your urinating out. So then you end up being dehydrated. So to me it wasn't worth it..Good Luck!@If you have low blood sugar still be careful.."

[SIDE EFFECTS] 01/11/2009: Dianna from Austin, Tx: "ok - this sucks. i had just started taking molasses and i thought i was onto something wonderful. i actually craved it - and i am diabetic so i never even took an entire tablespoon at once - but even on doses as small as one teaspoon once per day my blood sugar skyrocketed. now this doesn't make sense because there is only 10-14 grams of sugar in one tablespoon so one teaspoon would be like 4 grams which is nothing in the scheme of things. well, my body didn't react well. i even got diahrreah and abdomen pains and very high blood sugar.... and i still feel weird today even though i haven't taken it since yesterday. magnesium is supposed to lower blood sugar i thought. what is going on? any ideas? could it be the iron? how could this be too big a dose for me? i was also taking epsom salts 1/2 teaspoon a day and soaking in epsom salt baths which i still do - i have however discontinued the oral epsom salts. could it be too much magnesium? my tree of life brand has 10 per tablespoon of magnesium - which seems like not much. djh/texas" Replies

[SIDE EFFECTS] 09/17/2008: Arsie from Los Angeles, California: "I started taking one teaspoon of blackstrap molasses about four days ago and noticed the second day that about 3 hours after taking it I got a throbbing headache. Do you think someone can develop diabetes from taking molasses first thing in the morning for long periods of time?" Replies 09/18/2008: Bret from Phoenix, AZ replies: "Yes, yes, yes. I have heard of this before. Used to be a vitamin product by sold by multilevel organization. The key component in the supplement was molasses. In fact the potassium concentration was identical to blackstrap molasses. Some people reported head aches if they took too much. I would definately cut back and take it with tons of water. Bret"

One of my problems had been swelling of my ankles wrists, & lymph nodes. Since I have been oil pulling, and using ACV the swelling has decreased alot even when I sit long periods of time. One thing that happened while I was taking blkstrap molasses 1 tbs. a.m. and one before bedtime. I gained weight because of the rich vitamins so I cut down to just 1 tbs. before bed. Oh! and the spider veins are fading around my ankles and legs. Where do I get colorless iodine?"

It only has 11 grams of sugar. I would say be mindful of what else you are using in conjuction with BSM. I have no side
effects at all. Also body chemical is different for everyone. I am sure the benefits differ with individuals" 06/26/2011: Sdl from Calgary, Canada replies: "To the gal who says her skin became drier using blackstrap molasses, have you considered mixing it with coconut oil or coconut milk? I've been using coconut products (the organic extra virgin or virgin unrefined kind) and find my skin is nicely improving and after just 5 days is already better than it has ever been in four decades!! Smooth, nicely toned, etc. Cleared up blackheads on my nose and tightened pores. The list goes on. I will be trying molasses soon and possible Apple Cider Vinegar as well, but one thing at a time. So far, I'm a coconut oil convert for life. ;) Lots of water is a good thing for skin too, I've found. 2-3L a day works wonders."
[YEA] 11/24/2007: Nini from Los Angeles, CA: "Drinking atleast 3 cups of African Red tea, commonly called Rooibos is not only beneficial to your immune system but it also helps your skin stay clear. Also applying blackstrap molasses every night for about an hour after washing your face helps smooth your skin and gives you a glow due to all the vitamins and minerals it contains, and don't forget to take atleast 2 tbspns of it daily to keep regular. I like to put it in my red tea or in some warm almond milk along with some coconut oil, yum yum! Hope this helps all of you."
[YEA] 11/02/2007: Annie from Kingston, Jamaica: "2 Tbsp black strap molasses daily and up my intake of h2o to ten cups Gorgeous skin all over, no acne outburst befor my period and did not have any PMS, the period showed up unannounced. I've only been using the molasses for 3 weeks. Thanks a lot. I found simplicity lasts longer."
[YEA] 06/25/2007: Vickie from Toronto, Canada: "Hello everyone, I hope you're all taking your BSM religiously. I have been taking it for the last 4 months and sometimes I mix it with ACV. I'm happy to announce that my nails and skin are looking very healthy. My nails have not been that bad but I have seen such a great improvement; they're not breaking or chipping like they used to before. They're growing very strongly and there're no white spots on them anymore. I read from the BSM book by Cyril Scott that BSM gets rid of the black spots and that's when I realised that they were gone. People are complimenting me on my skin, even men! I started taking BSM for something else but it seems to be doing a lot more. This stuff really works! V"
[YEA] Michelle from London, UK: "Blackstrap Molasses works for me! After the first fortnight of drinking a cup each morning with the juice of half a lemon, my skin felt really soft and had lost its dryness and my nails are growing stronger and more uniform. This is in addition to having a lot more energy, I have also managed to stop smoking and not experience the side effect of constipation. This remedy is the cheapest but most effective way of taking varied supplementary vitamins."
SKIN RASHES
[YEA] 07/10/2007: Nikisha from New Brunswick, NJ: "I was so surprised to hear that blackstrap molasses is actually good for your health. When I was a small child we ate it as a treat with warm biscuits. I used to love it. After I read this I decided to try it on warm rye crisp bread today. It tastes great. And amazingly, a few hours after eating it I noticed that this ugly skin rash I had is completely cleared up and my skin looks great." Replies [YEA] 03/13/2012: Cat from Tauranga, New Zealand replies: "YEA I thought it was worth mentioning that BSM has virtually eliminated my rosacea on my nose. I had a red (sometimes VERY red) nose for years now but to be honest, I'd never noticed it creeping up on me till someone asked me why my nose was always red!! I have never been so humiliated in my life but it made me very conscious of course and before trying anything natural, went through a stage of using makeup - FAIL - to try and cover redness. About 6 months ago I started using BSM morning and night and noticed my nose had returned to normal skin colour almost immediately!! It has been years since I've been this confident about not using makeup and going out, now the only time I notice it come back (only slightly) is if I drink certain wines which I believe is quite common, but it doesn't happen all the time - only with certain brands. It never really occured to me that it was the BSM but if I run out and don't take it for a few days, it slowly creeps back but not as severe as before. I'm sure of course this is due to the high content of copper in this brand, it's also reasonably high in sulphur which is great for skin issues!" 03/14/2012: Stonfieldsian from Auckland, New Zealand replies: "Hi, do you take BSM internally or apply topically? And how much?" 03/15/2012: Cat from Papamoa, New Zealand replies: "I have been taking the BSM internally. I'm a firm believer that we heal from the inside - out. One tbsp in the morning and one tbsp before bed."
STOMACH PAIN
11/16/2009: Blessed from Harare, Zimbabwe: "Stomach PainHi, I bought Crude Black Strap Molasses from health shop. Sales people did not know whether by "Crude" it is the sulphured or unsulphered. Can you tell? instructions say to use 1 -2 tspn in warm water, it was difficult for me to take in that form, so I am eating direct from tspn. Is that ok? I have stomach aches which are like ulcer pains but doctor said its Irritable Bowel Syndrome.I experience the pains when I am hungry or I eat apples, lemon , oranges or spicy meals. I also experience heavy painful bleeding during periods which may be fibroid related. I used to take birth control pills to stop the bleeding but have decided to stop as I am yet to have children, and felt this may interfere with fertility. I am 39 I am taking the molasses to get rid of these ailments.
Thank you"
SUGAR CRAVINGS [YEA] 08/28/2007: P from San Diego, CA: "I don't which is working, but the the blackstrap molasses drink seems to have removed my sugar cravings. I tend to snack less, don't peruse the refrigerator as much (like every 20 min or so) to find something to eat. I used to snack on yoghurt a lot, and that's not happening anymore. I think the nutrients in the BSM are dense enough to keep me balanced and are probably filling my nutritional deficiencies. Also, I've been painting with iodine, I'm sure that's helping. I also started fenugreek two days ago, which I've read also helps with sugar imbalances. Diabetes is in my family, so I'm very happy about getting information from your website. What I thought may have been mostly hormonal imbalances may have been sugar imbalances. I feel so alert these days, I notice tiny details and make the bed much faster and neater - a chore that I was never really good at. :)" Replies 04/17/2010: Sara from Sacramento, Ca, Usa replies: "I would love to start taking Black Strap Molasses, but I am afraid I might gain weight. I am already 50 lb overweight. Did you gain weight or taking BSM helped you to lose weight. I would appreciate if you give me some info."
[YEA] 10/01/2006: Elly from Seattle: "Black Strap Molasses has cured my Blood Sugar Levels. I also wanted to respond to another lady in Seattle, she asked where to buy it. The two best places would be Trader Joe's, or Madison Market, just off Capital Hill."
[YEA] 09/14/2006: Tai from Lakewood, WA: "My mother in law tells me it helps her everyday with her sugar level (she has Diabetes). She feels much better since she has taken molasses. Can anyone tell me where or what store in Seattle, WA I can find this Molasses medicine?"
[YEA] 11/22/2005: Kellee from PA: "I am a sugar addict. I love anything that is sweet. I was told my a chef to utilize black molasses, and it really worked for me. It balanced my iron and allowed me not to have the crave anymore. I have also shared it with a friend and he lost five pounds.... good stuff."
SUGAR SUBSTITUTE
12/17/2010: Mello from West Orange, Nj: "After reading about the harmful effects of artificial sweetners which I use every morning in my cup of coffee I have heard some comments on using Blackstrap Molasses
in their hot drinks with pleasant taste and results. Will start using two tblspoon in my coffee and see what it does. Thanks for the tip because I have become very afraid of artifical sweetners and could not figure out what to use because I love my morning coffee."
TOOTHACHES [YEA] 11/05/2006: Suzay from BC, Canada: "I used to get extremely painful toothaches. I ed my mom telling me once about Blackstrap Molasses being full of nutrients (calcium and magnesium) in large amounts in general. So I thought I'd try it the next time my tooth ache occurred, and within half an hour, my tooth ache was completely gone. When my young daughters had growing pains, I decided to also try this on them: (1 tbsp) followed by any liquid (water , milk, juice, just to wash it down). Her growing pain had stopped. As I had figured these tooth problems and shin aches may have been from a calcium/magnesium deficiency. The pain had left her in under half an hour. I believe from my own research that if the body does not get enough calcium it will leach it from other areas..thus the pain."
ULCERATIVE COLITIS [YEA] 03/18/2009: Judy from Toormina, N.S.W. Australia: "I would like to tell you for 7 years we have been trying to find a cure for our daughter Natalie with chronic ulcerative colitis, she was just about to have her colon removed when a friend told us about black strap molasses. Within a week of taking 1 teaspoon daily she has been in complete remission and said she has never felt better am so grateful. I have been taking it too and have found a big improvement in my well being and nervous system. regards Judy Harrison" Replies 05/30/2009: Harsh from Pune, India replies: "hi there. i am also a patient of ulcerative colitis. please do let me know about the health condition of your daughter now and how how is she now ... and when did she use black strap molasses regards harsh" 07/11/2009: kstannard from Ft. Lauderdale, FL replies: "Well, I was introduced to ulcerative colitis at the top of may. I am 40, and noticed after having things with milk, milk products would make me jump up and go to the bathroom after about 10-15 minutes. At first it wasn't so bad, as I realize people my age may develop lactose intolerance, and I was very stressed on other issues, so I figured I would cool it a while on the milk. I am a coffee fanatic (another issue)... Someone messes with my coffee, watch out! Towards the middle of may, I was still having some issues, so decided to give the ER a shot, and came out with a dx of gastroenteritis which as you may well know is very vague and general. I walked out with a rx for flagyl, and amoxicillan, and told to drink plenty of liquids, and get lots of rest. Well this did not cut it. I went back about a week later, and was dx with food poisoning, no tests were run. I walked out with a schedule 4 containing atropine, and told to take it once a day. I did this about a week, and still had the runs, and was having the classic abdominal cramping. I then went a week later to another hospital via ambulance so I would get right in, and was itted that night at about 3 am. I smoke, but funny, I didn't really feel the urge the entire time I was there from June 5, 2009 to June 18, 2009, and I had detoxed my coffee addiction with motrin ib, and time it so that I would sleep through the caffeine
headaches. Later I found out Ibuprofin is not good, nor is aspirin. The hospital had me on a clear liquid diet for a few days until my colonoscopy, when the next day I could start eating "normal foods" again. They had me taking flagyl, and told me I had to take Levaquin, which I am not fond of, and has been proven to weaken muscles. I will not go into what I went through with the monkey nurses there or for that matter the not so loving doctor. After I was released, they had 6 prescriptions. Levaquin, flagyl, metoprolol, pentasa, prednnisone, and protonix. There were more that I disregarded, and never filled. The pentasa, I had to disregard, as this was nonformulary as per their pharmacy, and they wanted about 200 to fill it. I am currently using the last portion of the prednisone until it's gone, and don't use any of the other ones. I started activia, and it definitely will make you regular(definitely avoid the peach one if you had any milk sensitivities, as you will feel the burning runs). I did extensive searches on line since I have been out of the hospital with many options to chose from including urine therapy which I have only seen one testament to and nothing else. Frankly drinking my pee just does not appeal to me. The fecal transplant option (well who knows, and makes me a little squeamish). I decided that I am going to try this black strap molasses treatment (1 tbsp) a day in the morning on an empty stomach (even though there is only one testament I can find for it on line at all, there is potassium and magnesium abound in it, and magnesium prevents headaches, and cancer). I combined this also with bromelain 500 mg 3 per day (1 hour before eating). I just started this today, and am hoping for the best. I am a little concerned also about the burn at first, but who knows? I did not get the Gramma Moses at the local publix, as this is not true black strap. I went to whole foods, and spent about 7 for the 24 oz bottle. I went to GNC and got the bromelain, which is about 10. It may be cheaper if you get the powder meat tenderizer version, or try another store. I will be running out of the prednisone soon, and am hoping the bromelain will kick in in time to help heal the lining if that indeed is what it is. I was diagnosed with mild to moderate ulceritis, the only thing that contradicts this is the irritation they picked up at the first hospital in the ileum. There were no other hot spots that they could see." 07/13/2009: Kstannard from Ft. Lauderdale, FL replies: "I have achieved a degree of remission so far with the black strap molasses, and bromelain. I am taking the 500mg of brmoelain an hour before ANYTHING goes on my stomach. It is also important to follow a low residue diet during this period. I found out yesterday that chopped lettuce is okay (romaine has the best magnesium), specifically baby lettuce is going to be easier on your system. If you are worried about vitamin c, parsley, and potatoes (not instant or boxed) are good for you. If you have had some lactose intolerance during all of this it is sometimes okay to have parmesan, or mozarella cheeses (not a pizza). I love my tomato sauces, so sometimes I go to subway and get a meatball sub, but my case is mild to moderate, and I would not recommend this too much. If you also like tomatoes, skin and seed them and you should be fine. Cooked cherries, and grapes are okay, but if you eat them raw, you may get the runs (the skins are not your friend). My results so far are from personal experience, and again I take 1 500 mg of bromelain in the morning followed an hour later by the black strap molasses, and breakfast (I have been using activia, and 365 degree organic oatmeal, or cream of wheat, but avoid at all costs normal oatmeal until you can introduce fiber again). I have 500 mg of bromelain 1 hour before lunch, and 1 hour before dinner. 2 hours after dinner I have a multivitamin, just in case some facets of my diet are not adequate. After your strength starts returning, I highly recommend physical activity even if it is walking around the block, house cleaning... etc. I have to keep reminding myself no chocolate, no burger king or wendy's, and no coffee for a while after my remission (haha)." 07/17/2009: Kstannard from Ft. Lauderdale, FL replies: "Finally! Today I am experiencing a semi normal stool again, and I say semi normal, because there was a stringy mucous thing that had a little blood in it, but everything else is solid. I am still using the Bromelain, and molasses therapy, but have started to season food with cinnamon, sage, oregano, tumeric, nutmeg, (all of these that I mentioned are therapeutic to the GI system), salt is okay, and so is basil. For some reason I can use garlic cloves, but
not the powder, and I cannot use black pepper (except 1 or 2 grinds). I also have not consumed a lot of red meat, and I found that activia breaks stool down, (yes it will make you regular if you are constipated) but you will find it makes you very watery. Fish, eggs, chicken, and lamb are very good meats if you don't want to go vegan yet. I also have noticed my eyesight seems to be getting a little better (who knew?)." 07/17/2009: Vandu from Silver Spring, MD replies: "Kstannard, I got a bout of UC several weeks back and working to heal my lining. I sea buckthorn oil in the morning, 500 mg L-glutamine before every meal, ashwagandha and cod liver oil after lunch, and turmeric with my molassas-banana treat. I do love the way the molassas makes me feel. I always have it with banana as i find this fruit to be very soothing (dont' eat any other fruit). I'm still getting mucous and small amt of blood in stool..not always even getting a stool..lot's of gas. And i do castor oil packs..esp on nights where i messed up on the food part. I've never heard of Bromelain though.. So it repairs your gut lining? That's why i take the L-Glutamine. where did you learn about bromelain..i didn't see much on it on EC in regards to repairing gut lining. Does it work better with molassas? I wonder which one is hleping you more, the molassas, or the bromelain. I'm wondering if i should try it. I'm going to try urine enema..i've read it is often even more effective than drinking." 07/19/2009: Kstannard from Ft. Lauderdale, FL replies: "Well Vandu, Actually bananas are very therapeutic, and may be used as a part of remedy. Fish oil although good for you in other aspects does not always do the job. I found out about bromelain by another problem that I had that has gone away in conjunction with gotu kola. I also had a side effect of bromelain at the time clean up a case of diverticulitis whereby all of the pockets cleared themselves up, and things were normal after a month I was able to eat corn and nuts again. Bromelain actually has almost the same effect as prednisone, but will actually promote healing quicker and without the same side effects. It will heal hot spots in your colon, clean up mucous associated with the problem, and things usually take about a month to get back on track again. Always have 1 500mg tablet before a meal ie. breakfast, lunch and dinner. Do not take the molasses before the bromelain. I have another couple of good helpers as well. Start integrating cinnamon (about 2 grams (.25 tsp)) into your diet, I just simply put the molasses and cinnamon in my oatmeal or cream of wheat, and it has very helpful properties that assist bromelain in working quicker. Another thing that I have been implementing is lots of oregano in my diet along with the tumeric, and chicken fried rice (no soy sauce). I did the other day have a subway sub (chicken teriyaki) where the teriyaki sauce in the sub although did not give me runs, it made it look like a strawberry exploded somewhere. So there are still irritants, but I am looking to avoid them. The oregano is a very powerful cleaner and anti oxidant that will rid you of any unknown parasites in case you may have them. Flagyl is supposed to do this, but does not work as well even though it is typically prescribed as an antibiotic. Always get a multivitamin as your system is recovering because even though you may be healing, you may still get dehydrated and may not realize it. Another thing I have been able to tolerate lately is ___ vegetable juice (I have been drinking the low sodium), if it irritates you too much try watering down. It has 820 mg potassium in it, and 120 percent vitamin c which is very difficult to get on a low residue diet. Your case is a little more severe, so I would maybe try 4 oz of it to start and make sure it does not irritate you badly. It does have citric acid in it, and I found problems with citric acid before when I tried Italian ice, but there was quite a bit more citric acid in that than the vegetable juice. So far my mucous has been clearing up, and there is a lot less blood in my morning deal. I have also found as of
recent that I can have coffee every 3 or 4 days or so, to which I am delighted. I also keep my dairy intake to less than 3/4 cup every day, and when I want cheese, I use provolone, parmesan, mozzarella, and very aged cheddar. If I want milk in my coffee, I use a tbsp of 1 percent milk, and it works. I have stayed away from desserts even though I have a real sweet tooth for chocolate, and I will snack on half a square of semisweet baking chocolate if I really feel I need it with little or no consequence." 07/19/2009: Kstannard from Ft. Lauderdale, FL replies: "Another fact of note, if you have UC you should not be taking aspirin, ibuprofin or other NSAIDS or if you have anemia. If you start the bromelain treatment, do not use coumaden ( warfarin), or other blood thinners, as bromelain does thin your blood to an extent, and your blood pressure will improve as well with use, and has been noted to inhibit cholesterol from forming as well. I am not a doctor, but simply going along with my personal experience, and that of others." 07/19/2009: Dennis from Tagum, Philippines replies: "I eat green (unripe) bananas 2 to 3 times a day for the resistant starch that it has. Have friends that also eat it. One has diabetes one, in May of 2008 had a big ulcer on his foot his Doctor said he had to have it amputated if he didn't he would die in 6 months . He still has some little ulcers. He also takes hydrogen peroxide in water to soak his feet and then he takes that water puts it on his legs and arms to oxygenate them. Also uses baking soda in water and soaks his feet to clean them. He is still a live. I believe that most diseases come from the stomach .(autoimmune diseases). Promotes ((good)) bacteria, and suppresses ((bad)) bacteria and their toxic products. resistant starch seems to improve insulin sensitivity" 07/20/2009: KStannard from Ft. Lauderdale, FL replies: "Well, at least they didn't have to amputate his colon, or he'd be wearing what ulcerative colitis sufferers affectionately refer to as a j-pouch. Your buddy could use some neosporin, and some oil of oregano, and by the sounds of things after all said and done, maybe stitches? Today I am back to normal, and will be taking 500mg of Bromelain a day, and continuing molasses, add cinnamon, oregano, and tumeric to the dishes that I prepare for consumption. I will also try to keep going on the low sodium __vegetable juice (as it has a ton of potassium in it). In approximately 2 weeks I will up the fiber content of my diet, and gradually add more milk products. I found that kosher salt actually can be detrimental to your digestive system, and if you are under a lot of stress, this may worsen the situation, (maybe why Jewish people are more prone to the affliction?) if you need a larger granule of salt, and less sodium the better way to go is sea salt. Cabbage juice is also another very good healer, but has to be separate from the cabbage itself (man does that stuff taste like crap), I have not incorporated this into my regimen but suppose if it were worse that I might. During all of this it is a good idea not to react to stress or pretend for at least 3 hours or more a day that it does not exist. Once you heal, cool it for a while so that you do not talk your body back into it again. I have also managed to bring back 16 oz of black coffee with sugar a day back into the picture without (knock on wood) problems." 07/22/2009: Kstannard from Ft. Lauderdale, FL replies: "Today I am still in remission, have taken my bromelain down to 500mg per day (break it in half, 250mg before breakfast, and 250mg before supper). Still doing the black strap molasses, cooking things with oregano, cinnamon, and tumeric. I have been ing normal functions so far, and will hopefully only have to keep a few things in my diet just to reinforce intestinal health. I am still erring on the side of caution, and going with the low residue diet for the entire month, and then after that... I will gradually get my old foods back in there." 07/28/2009: Kstannard from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida replies: "I have found the only thing that really irritates the ulcerative colitis now is MSG when I went out for dinner at Chili's. It was in the mashed
potatoes, the grill seasoning on the chicken, and in the garlic butter vegetable butter sauce. It is actually okay to go out and have a couple bourbon and cokes now, just not overdoing things too much. I can also have wine again as long as there are not an incredible amount of sulphites in it. The bromelain is acting much like prednisone would, but without the harmful side effects such as bone density deterioration. It also takes care of the mild arthritis in my elbow that only acts up once in a great while. I can finally do a full set of push ups without the ts cracking, and it is good. I still take the tablespoon of Black Strap Molasses in the morning, and of course the bromelain, and make sure cinnamon gets in my food somehow." 09/03/2009: Kstannard from Fll, Florida replies: "Some of you on here may have benefited from this, but my condition was in August re-diagnosed as crohn's disease due to the ileitis, and I found that the bile from my gangrenous gall bladder had something to do with the irritation. Bromelain is a great substance to get rid of inflammation, but it also may have masked my symptoms. When I was told in January that they could do laproscopic surgery to the gall bladder to remove it and have no more attacks, I should have listened. The last hospital visit on August 18 when I was itted revealed that I needed immediate removal of my gall bladder, and thus I had a 50% chance of having the surgery laproscopically. During the operation, they had to go hot, and remove it in 4 sections. After this I had staples and J-pouches attached. I just got them removed yesterday. I have been using cinnamon, black strap molasses to get rid of the bile run off which can be quite embarrassing, and it works. I also resumed with the bromelain, because it does eat the proteins from the bad tissue left behind. I am in hopes of a complete recovery, and it looks like I will eventually be able to eat what I want in the future with no further attacks. I was told by the surgeon himself that I was lucky to be alive. The whole reason in the first place I went in to the hospital was from a low grade fever that lasted more than 4 days after a flare up from eating watermelon. Had I waited more than 2 more days I would have been septic, and saving me would have been a gamble. If you have pains between your shoulder blades, pains up your right arm, yellowed eyes or skin, and you do not have to necessarily have the upper right quadrant pains from the gall bladder as is the hallmark symptom. Get yourself some immediate medical attention. Also if the hospital I had been itted to in June had done a CT scan after I vomited a quart and a half of bile, they would have seen the gall bladder was abscessed. I am an advocate of getting at least an (what medical professionals say) annual work up done every 2 years or as soon as you are able to. Chances are, there are affordability issues. You cannot have or enjoy wealth without health." UTERINE POLYP [BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 09/18/2009: Earth from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada: "I was diagnosed with a uterine polyp since I was spotting for about 4 months. My Gyn. did a D&C and said that might help. It didnt. The spotting continued. I recently started unsulphured blackstrap molasses. After taking 2 tablespoons for 2 days, the spotting completely stopped to my amazement and relief. But now I am feeling totally fatigued. I am not sure why. Has this something to do with my taking the BSM or is it something else. I have stopped the BSM for now. I am now so tired that I am desperate. Not sure what is happening. Please advise."
WEIGHT LOSS
[QUESTION] 02/04/2009: Sheryl from Portage, WI in USA: "BSM, oil pulling and honey and cinnamon for weight loss all say to do 1st thing in the morning. Since you don't eat the oil, I have been oil pulling 1st, so I am more interested to know how important 1st thing in the morning is to BSM or the honey and cinnamon. Please let me know if I am in error in doing oil pulling 1st thing." Replies 02/18/2009: Bruno from Houston, Texas, USA replies: "I have always done oil pulling 1st thing in the AM and everything that I have read, suggests that the best and strongest oil pull will be first thing, before you drink anything and/or even brush your teeth. If you can't do it at that time, at least do it when convenient (it's better than not at all)." 04/05/2009: Sue from Shelburne County, Nova Scotia, Canada replies: "Please give more information on weight loss...some places say how black strap mollasses can cause weight gain because of the high amount of calories. And what is oil pulling? Thanks."
