Biography

Aathma is a Contemporary Indian Rock band from Bangalore, India. Aathma derives its name from the word 'Aathmaah' in Sanskrit which means the inner soul. Through Music, they attempt to touch the inner soul of people and most importantly keep the relevance of Indian music in power. Aathma was started in the mission to spread the happier aspect of music into people’s hearts. The name ‘Aathma’, was given spontaneously on stage! With consistent high energy performances, they have built a reputation for themselves.

Band Ajay George Joseph (Lead Guitar) Ajay is a self-taught guitarist who being from Kerala, expectedly started off as a metal head! Today he has earned a reputation of being one of Bangalore’s most Versatile Guitarists! He picked up guitar when he was 11, and I never put it down. For him, it's that unadulterated feeling of freedom and expression that drives me to keep playing, and being in Aathma for him, is always fun because it's all about expressing ourselves through our music, putting on a good show and most of all, having the most amount of fun while doing it.

Sidharth Bharadwaj (Flute) Coming from a very musically inclined Family, Sidharth has learnt Carnatic music for 6 years. He has been playing Fusion for 4 years, as a part of several bands. He also plays a variety of other instruments. Aathma for Sidharth began as an experiment, but today he encomes it with the very essence of him being a musician. According to him, he has understood the true message of music through Aathma, `To Play, and to have fun’.

Vyshak Varma (Vocals) One of the most eligible frontmen around, Vyshak Varma also comes from a musical family. Both his parents being singers, Vyshak was nurtured in a Musical environment, and singing came naturally to him. His first band, Vyshak reveals that his primary ion in life is his music, and his music, is Aathma.

Akshat Kavidayal (Bass Guitar) Akshat recalls his 10th grade, where he had nothing to do in life but study! Stuck at home with a nothing but endless hours of confinement to look forward to, he borrowed a guitar from a friend, and began playing! He began playing bass 3 years ago, and is today commended by those such as the like of Leslie Charles.

Anto Philip (Rhythm Guitar) Every band needs an eloquent, enterprising and energetic front man, and Anto delivers much more than that! With a unique freestyle on

stage, he sure does get the audience on their feet!

Nikhil Abraham (Drums and Percussions) Nikhil has been playing Drums for 15 years. On stage, he has been described by several people to be a boundless source of energy. His playing style involves the use of intricate rhythms! All of which are supplemented by his glorious stage presence. His first ever Indian Rock band, Nikhil enjoys the fervor and the high energy that Aathma conjures up on stage.
