Getting to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport in western from Frankfurt am Main on public transportation is easiest and cheapest by the Ryanair / Bohr Omnibus (also bookable as Flixbus / IC Bus / Flibco) airport shuttle bus service. The Bohr Omnibus bus service operates around 20 times per day between Frankfurt am Main Hauptbahnhof (Central Main Train Station) and Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN). En route, all buses stop also at Frankfurt International Airport (FRA). The bus between Frankfurt-Hahn Airport and downtown Frankfurt am Main takes around 1h45 minutes. Taxis and private airport shuttle services from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport are of course available too but
expensive. Online quotations are available from taxi2airport
– for small groups not traveling to a
destination readily served by public transportation taxis and shuttles may be a viable option but for most engers the bus is the only sensible (and cheap) option. Changes in the rules regulating long-distance bus travel in may well introduce competition on this route. Currently, Flixbus , German Railways
(IC Bus) and Flibco books trips online on the Frankfurt-Hahn
to Frankfurt route but these are operated by Bohr. The buses are usually in the white and red Bohn Omnibus livery but other colors and names are possible. The bus uses the Ryanair / Bohr bus stop at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof station in Stuttgarter Strasse (since mid-July 2014).
By Ryanair / Bohr Omnibus from Flughafen Frankfurt-Hahn to Hauptbahnhof & Airport Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is a good 120 kilometers (75 miles) from the city Frankfurt am Main. This small airport is very popular with low-cost airlines and the major German hub of low-cost carrier Ryanair. Train services to Hahn are not available making the bus the best cheap option for most engers. Fortunately, the bus service from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport to downtown Frankfurt am Main and Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) is well run with up to 20 daily buses operating on the route. (See Transportation to Frankfurt-Hahn for bus services to other cities in the region). Traveling time from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof is 1h45 (15 minutes less to Frankfurt International Airport). A few buses go via Mainz, which adds around 15 minutes to the journey.
Schedules of the Ryanair / Bohr Omnibus from Frankfurt am Main to Hahn Airport The Bohr Omnibus timetable varies according to the season and flight arrival and departure times. However, a bus is at available at least hourly during the peak hours. Bohr airport shuttles operate according to the timetable
and do not wait if flights are delayed.
The first Bohr bus of the day bound for Frankfurt International Airport and Hauptbahnhof leaves FrankfurtHahn Airport at 4:00 am (summer) or 5:30 am (winter) and the last bus at 0:30 am. The first bus to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport departs from Frankfurt-Hauptbahnhof at 3:00 am and the last bus at 23:15 (earlier in winter). All Bohr buses on this route stop at Frankfurt International Airport around 15 minutes from Frankfurt-Hauptbahnhof. Hbf is the abbreviation for Hauptbahnhof, which means Main or Central Train Station. Therefore Frankfurt Hbf on a bus means the destination is the main central German railways (DB / Deutsche Bahn) train station in downtown Frankfurt am Main. Currently, Bohr Ominbus is operating the only airport shuttle bus service between Frankfurt-Hahn Airport and Frankfurt am Main Hauptbahnhof and International Airport (FRA). The slightly cheaper Terravision bus service that used to connect Frankfurt-Hahn Airport and Neu-Isenburg, Offenbach, and Hanau on the edges
of Frankfurt am Main has been suspended.
Ryanair / Bohr Omnibus Frankfurt-Hahn Airport Shuttle Bus Departure Points Bohr Omnibus (Ryanair is often used on the bus stops and the buses too) airport shuttle buses use the following departure and arrival points: At Frankfurt-Hahn Airport – Bohr buses depart from directly in front of Terminal A. (Note that not all Bohr Omnibuses have Frankfurt am Main as destination.) At Frankfurt International Airport – Bohr Ominbuses depart from in front of Exit E9 at Terminal 2. (This is a recent change – the buses from Hahn Airport no longer stop at Frankfurt International Airport Terminal 1. Use the free shuttle buses (Terminalbus) or Skyliner train to move between the two terminals – walking is not an option. The airport train station is at Terminal 1.) At Frankfurt am Main Hauptbahnhof – Bohr Omnibuses stop at the bus stop is marked “RYNAIR/Bohr” in Stuttgarter Strasse at the south side of the station. (This is a new stop in use since mid-July 2014 – not all websites show it correctly at the moment.) Mannheimer Straße, where the bus previously stopped, runs parallel to the south exit (Süd) of Frankfurt station. Go right, Stuttgarter Straße is usually the second street making a T-junction with Mannheimer Straße. (The yellow ADAC buses also stop in Stuttgarter Straße.) (Pdf map )
Buying Tickets for the Bohr Omnibus to Airport Frankfurt-Hahn Flughafen Tickets for the Bohr Omnibus journey to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport are currently €14 (€8 for children under 7) one way. Bulky luggage such as bicycles requires a surcharge of €8. The ticket price is the same price whether traveling to Frankfurt International Airport of Frankfurt am Main Hauptbahnhof. A day return ticket is available at €20 (no discount for children) and valid for 24 hours. Free wifi and toilets are available on most buses. Wheelchair s should Bohr at least three days prior to traveling to ensure that a suitable bus / equipment is available on the particular bus. Buying tickets are simple but getting the best deal is complicated. The basic ticket fare remains the same but each company selling tickets has its own peculiarities and rules: families may benefit from German Railways, which also has an English website, while Flibco has spectacular deals.
Buying Bus Tickets to Frankfurt Hahn Airport from Bohr Bus tickets may be bought in advance online h Bohr or directly from the driver, if seats are still available. At Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, tickets can also be bought in the terminal building at the information desk or the Bohr Bus ticket stand. Payment can only be made in cash and in euro – the bus driver may not necessarily
have change for large notes. In contrast to the previous system, online purchases guarantee a seat on the bus. The downside is that a specific bus must be booked in advance requiring a new ticket if planes arrive late. The the Bohr site does allow for child discounts. Children under three travel for free but must be in an own car seat and the child must be booked in via phone or email. Bohr’s English booking site is patchy at best.
Buying Bus Tickets to Frankfurt Hahn Airport from German Railways (IC Bus) Tickets on some Bohr buses from Frankfurt Hahn Airport to Frankfurt Airport and station can be b0ught from German Railways, which then refer to it as the IC Bus. The advantages of buying through German Railways include many of the other savings offered to Deutsche Bahn engers such as BahnCard savings, own children under 14 traveling for free with parents, the possibility to book a single through ticket to further German railway stations and an English website . The main downside is that not all the Bohr buses can be booked as IC Buses. The IC Bus via Deutsche Bahn is a great option for families traveling from Frankfurt Hahn Airport by bus: own children under 14 travel for free with own parents but names must be entered onto the ticket when booking. (Children under 5 always travel for free on German Railways but add their names too to ensure a seat on the bus.) Check schedules and buy online tickets from Hahn Airport or from Frankfurt am Main to Hahn at German Railways (Deutsche Bahn).
Buying Bus Tickets to Frankfurt Hahn Airport from Flixbus Tickets on all Bohr buses from Frankfurt to Hahn Airport may be bought in advance online from Flixbus . Flixbus is a great choice for solo travelers – its website is the simplest and work great on mobile but is in German only. Flixbus often have special deals and promotion codes but do not make provision for child discounts. Flixbus also has the largest variety of non-credit card purchasing options.
Buying Bus Tickets to Frankfurt Hahn Airport from Flibco A further option, which is unlikely to last (although its been working for over a year now), is to book the Bohr bus as a Flibco
trip from Frankfurt City to Trier or even Luxembourg (online Flibco bookings are not
possible from Frankfurt am Main to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport). The journey is on the normal Bohr bus from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof or Airport to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, where travelers change to the Flibco bus for Trier (and Luxembourg). There is nothing preventing travelers from not boarding the second bus. The upside is that Flibco prices changes with demand – advance reservations can give prices as cheap as €5 for the Frankfurt to Trier journey. Once again, a specific bus must be booked and a new ticket bought if missing the bus.
