Ghettos  By 1939, the Nazis

forced Jews in Poland and other countries to live in ghettos.  Ghettos= sections of cities where Jewish people were confined  By 1941, German leaders devised the “Final Solution of the Jewish

Death Camps  To accomplish the “Final Solution”, Hitler set up 6

special death camps throughout Poland.  “Undesirables” were shipped from all over German occupied Europe.

camp they were stripped of their clothes and valuables. Their heads were shaved. Men and women were separated. Children were separated from their parents. The young, elderly, and sick were killed right away. Within a few days they were “showered” or gassed.

Holocaust  By 1945, the Nazis had massacred 6 million Jews.  This became known as the Holocaust.  Nearly 6 million other people were also killed.

Resistance  In 1942, Polish Jews









were sent to the Warsaw Ghetto. By 1943, knowing their situation, the Jews took over the ghetto. The Nazis regained control and eliminated the remaining Jews. In some cases friends, neighbors, or strangers protected the Jews. Many people pretended not to know what was happening.
